The legendary Whintey Houston is over here in Europe to promote her comeback LP ‘I Look To You’, this evening stopping by German TV show Wetten Dass to perform the album’s title track – which you can watch above.
Yes, Nippy! I was on the edge of my seat the whole performance, hoping and praying that Oprah wasn’t a fluke; and Whitney proved herself yet again. Great performance. By no means a perfect performance, yet one that really does reinforce the fact that the ‘voice’ is still there – legitimately. She sounded the best she has in years. SHE SOUNDED AMAZING!! THE BEST SHE HAS THIS DECADE. AS SHE PERFORMS MORE AND MORE HER VOICE WILL GET STRONGER AND SHE WILL REGAIN THE CONFIDENCE SHE ONCE HAD. I LOVE HER AND I AM SO GLAD SHE IS BACK! THE VOICE AND THE GOAT.
She sounded good.. but.. it’s choppy. the verses dont flow smoothly into each other the way she is singing them..
I don’t know what’s up with Whit, but she’s been talking the verses of her songs rather than singing them for the past several years. I don’t see anything wrong with her working with a vocal coach to strengthen what’s left of her voice.

It was a decent performance, but a really noticeable dip from her vocal abilities during her peak years. The key was certainly lower than her classic songs and you can tell that she simply doesn’t have as much of the endurance and agility that she formerly had. I’m glad that she’s doing well, but I foresee a lot of rehashing and watering down of what she was previously capable of, rather than truly becoming a key artist again.
I like that she didn’t have to talk/sing her way through the performance, which she did a little on the Oprah performance. She is finally singing the song through completion. Once she sings with her own band and singers, everybody better watch out. And the falsettos, well…
Whitney, Aretha, Patti, and all the other powerhouses, will never go back to the way they sound during their peak. So no one should expect 100% Whitney, but 90% Whitney is doable and she is proving that. She is now at 80%. Ten more to go babes.
I love me some damn Whitney Houston. This performance shows strength, class, endurance, elegance, sound, vibe and everything that is Whitney.
Whitney’s Oprah and GMA performances were more emotional, and because she was using her own band and singers, she could adlib and do her thang. I don’t know how long she rehearsed with this “generic” band/singers, but it forced Whitney to be more technical than emotional. Overall, both Oprah and Germany are solid performances. If she stays consistent, the buzz about her voice will improve. No better Diva, baby, no beter diva.

I Loved this performance…she freaking slayed it , I remember afte the GMA fiasco, some stupid small blog site said that she couldnt sing any more and that they probably spliced her voice in the studio with autotune-
Shut the haters down Nippy- this was damn near flawness- no lipping, all live f alsettos and all! That is the one thing that i appreciate and respect her for- she NEVER lipsyncs- good voice or bad voice., No cracks, no horseness, no airiness, no gaps in her voice and she used 3 different parts of her voice, and oh yeah, that stage presence and theatrics–especially with the mic- floored!!
her daughter seems to be her biggest cheerleader- she looked so proud.
My only wish is that Whitney can come back to America and performed on one of our shows the way she did in Germany today…
and oh by the way- the album is #4- 4th week out in the us sales of 620k. Next week, she will be #12, with 45-50k cds sold- total 670k -AMAZING!!!

Amazing! Her voice is DEFINITELY still there and she’s back to hitting them high notes like she never left. And just to think she had absolutely no voice on GOOD MORNING AMERICA. So I guess she really was telling the truth about how she talked for 3 hours and basically talked her voice away. Now she sounds great!

Everybody has their own ear and expectation.
Whitney’s fan are most proud that she does not lip. That’s why there could never be a true comparison, until both artists sing ALL songs live. Whitney performed ALL four songs live on GMA, Mariah performed partially live on Today. Therefore, you can’t get a true guage of the voices. What would Mariah sounded like had she sung ALL songs live. Well, we don’t know, do we. This performance in Germany is great, because it is live. Throaty voice or not, she is bringing the truth. I would rather hear the imperfect truth, than a perfect lie.

I must say this performance was good look for Ms. Houston. I am happy she is doing her thing again but sales could be better if she did more promo 620k is a decent start but I thought sales would be at 1m+ by now.
Bravo Whitney. With each performance she is growing stronger and stronger. It amazes me how on the Today show “Make It Happen” sounded a complete mess, but HATEU was damn near perfect…(lipping Mariah) but who cares. One thing about Whitney its always raw and thats what I love. Great Job diva we got your back. team Whitney lets go….
@geeman: Do you realize what you just said? You said that you thought her sales would be 1milion by now. That is so silly, her album has only been out for 5 weeks and the videos didn’t come until the 3rd week out when most artists have videos out 2 mths before their albums drops.
She has sold 670k in 5wks which is better than keri Hilson – 478k in 7mths, better than TheDream who hasn’t sold 500k yet and his album has been out over 5-8mths, almost as good as mAXWELL and his album has been out 12wks and sold about 760k and just about as good as Kelly Clarkson 730k or so and album out for 6mths.
Whitney is killing with sales less than 7wks and worldwide she is almost a million sold. She’s doing the damn thing and that performance was very, very good.
Why do Mariah fans insist of bringing her up in EVERY other topic about a female especially Whitney? Then they complain when others comapare the 2.
Why can’t you just enjoy Mariah’s performance and stop being so insecure about them that you have to put other singers down to justify them.
