Mya Places Second On ‘Dancing With The Stars’

Singer/dancer Mya placed second on season 9 of ‘Dancing With The Stars’ last evening. The performer and her partner Dmitry, who had the highest scores from the judges throughout the season, lost the title to Donny Osmond. In addition, Kelly Osbourne placed third at the finale of the event which featured performances from Whitney Houston.

Why am I not surprised? Although Mya practically owned the dance floor every time she stepped out, the voters on this show have always displayed incredibly poor taste with their selection of the seasons’ winners. First Toni Braxton got voted off early, then Lil Kim and now Mya. Anyone else noticing a trend? I am utterly disgusted by this news and unless someone of the caliber of Janet Jackson or Beyonce enters the show next year, I definitely won’t be watching.

Thoughts?

From my observation it looks like all the cougars are doing the voting. Mya was the youngest, freshest and most hippest of them all. She was 110% comitted and pretty much set the bar week after week. Donny manages to perform ONE Outstanding performance in the semis and suddenly people feel he should win. Just Ludicrous. Mya was the MOST consitent of them all. I demand a recount, it seriously just does not calculate right

TO ME THAT FINALE WAS STRAIGHT UP BULLSHXT….THAT OLD ASS MAN SHOULDN’T HAVE WON….I WAS ROUTING 4 MYA..BUT HIS OLD ARTHRITIS ASS…WON…I OLNY WATCHED IT TO SEE WHO WOULD WIN AND THAT WAS WHAT I GOT

I knew she would get second place…she should have went with her own idea instead of D’mitry’s idea to do Hairspray….I smell sabotage!!!!!

Calm down your righteous anger. First off, it’s a silly show. Second, it’s watched mainly by middle aged women who grew up having crushes on Donny Osmond. Third, it’s always been about who panders to the camera the most and becomes more of a personality. Mya was better but this was predestined from the first episode.

The show is stupid and the voting is racist. They have never had a black judge or black winner. One person can vote 1000 or more times on their favorite has-been and all of their votes “count” but in reality the show is just geared to boost celebrities that have lost some of their fame and trying to get a comeback. All of the celebs receive the same check no matter how long they are on the show ($200,000).

i have absolutely seen a trend in the Dancing With The Stars phenom. correct me if im wrong; I just think it to be very odd that a black person hasn’t won, and the show has been on for 9 seasons!

everyone knows that mya kicked donnie osmand’s ass during the season. i think that kelly osbourne being in the top 3 was a crock of s***, and the only one who woulda been able to keep up with my was probably Joanna.

and i agree, unless someone like beyonce or janet was on next season, i think i will pass.

yes sam i agree, i was totally confident that mya was gonna take that trophy home until the damn freestyle dance. i feel like it’s kind of dimitri’s fault because mya wanted to do something different (she said she wanted to try some vegas style dancing) but he was like “no lets stick to what people are familiar with”. i knew that was a bad decision from the jumb, because here comes Donnie’s ass with his broadway musical s***, which wasn’t even that awesome if you ask me. he got a perfect ten both night and that stuck mya in 2nd place twice. Everyone that won in the past even said that the freestyle dance is what usually determines the winner. i don’t think we will ever see a negro or any other ethnic person win dancing with the stars. unless someone else interesting and not white is added next season i will not be watching either

I don’ t think the voting was racist.

Dancing With The Stars voters have always been biased towards the underdogs and men.

This is the last year that my friends and I will be watching this hoax of a show! I tried repeatedly to call in my votes after the finale but I could never get through. When I finally did get through, I got the recording that voting was closed to my time zone and it was on 28 minutes after the show ended. This show is a load of crap! Mya wiped the floor with all of the other dancers. I hope that no other person of color decides to go on this show.

WTF!! THE WHOLE SHOW IS F****** COMPLETE FRAUD. MYA SHOULD HAVE WON 1000% HANDS DOWN. SHE WAS THE MOST CONSISTENT IN BOTH ARTISTIC AND TECHNICAL MERITS OF DANCING. INSTEAD THE IDIOT PUBLIC HIGHLY SKEWED BY DONNY “HAS BEEN” FANS VOTED A MILLION TIMES GOT THAT PATHETIC D***** TO WIN ON SYMPATHY VOTES. ANY PROFESSIONAL JUDGE WOULD HAVE VOTED MYA FOR OVERALL SERIES PERFORMANCES. VOTING JOANNA OFF INSTEAD OF FAT KELLY OSBOURNE IS PROOF THE SHOW IS JACKED FROM THE GET GO!!! SHAME AND LAME.

“i don’t think we will ever see a negro or any other ethnic person win dancing with the stars. ”

    YOU ARE ALL SHOCKINGLY STUPID

Apollo Ono won and he’s half-Japanese. Helio Castroneves won and he’s Brazilian. Kristi Yamaguchi won and SHE’S Japanese. EMMIT SMITH won…and guess what? He’s BLACK. Do any of you have Google? I know racism exists (obviously) but really, look at the context.

I always think it’s funny when people this this show is about the best dancer. It’s all popularity and about who can be the biggest ham to the cameras. Donny Osmond was pretty much a predetermined winner before hand based on who watches the show (middle aged women who loved him as teenagers). Men also win more frequently because women are voting. I’m shocked people are shocked.

  12. Fatima November 25, 2009

In addition, it looks like 6 out of 9 second place finishers have been people of color. Add that to the 4 winners and I’d say the race argument is pretty much evaporated on this one.

Here is the truth! Emmitt Smith won “Dancing With The Stars”; He is a black man. Melanie Brown (MEL B) had the highest scores consistently during her season on “Dancing With The Stars” . She is a SPICE GIRL and EVERYBODY knows her and she is internationally popular and known. Still, she lost to a male Brazilian race car driver.

Mya is a Grammy award winning artist, has appeared on Broadway in Chicago, and performed flawless routines throughout the show while receiving the top scores each week, BUT she lost to an older white entertainer.

I am not playing the race card; I am stating that it seems that the viewing public and the producers of “DANCING WITH THE STARS” refuse to allow a BLACK WOMAN to win their contest no matter the perfection of the routines or the high scores achieved.

Both Mel B and Mya dance far better than Kristi and Brook, yet the Asian and the white women were allowed to win while the black women were not. It may have something to do with popularity but DWTS had better adjust their criteria or it will become more obvious to viewers what is happening and the will have more than a difficult time finding black women stars to compete on this show. Yeah, who do you have to be Alicia Keyes, Beyonce Knowles, Halle Berry, Tyra Banks in order to win? They need to think about that and more BLACKS should start voting if not viewing, just to see what happens. It’s a shame and so DAMN obvious both times with MEL B AND WITH MYA.

I agree. They FINALLY recognized the talent in ONE black female from Disney and she won the mirror ball in 2013, I think. But the list of extremely talented black female celebrities who lost over the years since this show has been on, is long and inexcusable!

Clearly there IS a message for Black female celebrities…you can enjoy the exposure, but don’t expect to win!

No matter how many times you vote for your favorite black female celebrities, the show is rigged to string them along until the end for the ratings.

Over the years since the show began, DWTS has featured several talented contestants with extrodinary disabilities yet placed second or even won the mirror ball. I believe that the hard work and talent these celebrities display is inspirational to the viewers and deserving of a trophy.

But where is the inspiration for other Black women and little Black girls watching DWTS?

  14. Monica November 26, 2009

Only one black person has won and that was Emmitt Smith about 3 of 4 years ago. Ever since then the farthest they will let a black person go is second place. Like when Jerry Rice and Mel B came in second place, they clearly were the better dancers. I’ve stopped watching this show ever since Mel B lost because it’s obvious that this show is about has been white people and they just throw a couple of black people on there so it doesn’t look so obvious that it’s a racist show. I think black people should stop supporting this show. 🙂

  15. Donna November 26, 2009

The Osmonds have a large fan base…Donny received votes from middle age women, the Mormons, Marie’s fans, and ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT viewers. ET did the same crap when Marie was in the show. They interviewed Donny and of course Marie’s name was front and centre. Melanie B should have won but she was hardly mentioned in any interviews they did about the show…mainly Marie’s name popped up. Even look at the current show’s interviews and clips, Mya received less air time than chipmunk cheek ex druggie, and big headed Donna. Sabotage is definitely an applicable word. Even if Beyonce or Janet Jackson entered, they would lose. The only time a gifted black performer will win would be if Blacks voted en masse for the most talented Blacks on the show. Anyhow, I will no longer be watching this show.

Mya is the winner to me. She was much more versatile in her dances. I think the judges knew from day one who they wanted to win. I think that’s why they said certain comments in the finale, to make Donnie seem to shine more than he actually was. I think it was more about Donnie’s popularity, than Mya being the greatest star performer. Donnie and everyone else knew that trophy belonged to Mya. She kept bringing it and her and D’mitri was a delight to watch!!!!!! I thnik the best is yet to come for her. Her performance on DWTS was just a passageway to something greater!!!!!!

  18. OBJECTIVE OBSERVER November 29, 2009

There have been three African American women who competed on this show: Laila Ali, Mel B and Mya. While I believe America can be a nation that is fair and objective, I think the producers of DWTS cannot. Over the years I have seen them attempt to get viewers from diverse groups, especially the young, Latino and African American. They have failed in all attempts. When young people perform, the judges give them low scores and chastise them about being ‘uncontrolled’, immature’ . .. and when African American women (especially) perform they receive high scores and in the cases of Mel B and Mya, the highest scores only to lose to someone else. Additionally and more specifically, last season Gilles Marini was clearly the more charismatic and adept performer, yet he lost to a young gymnast who was less charismatic or talented.

In order to prevent this, perhaps they shoulc bring in an extra professional judge and calibrate the votes of the audience in a more proficient manner. I am still bothered that no matter how talented , charismatic, technical or professional, you may not win, especially for the African American women. Granted Laila Ali was not as proficient as she could have been but she did well; however, Mel B and Mya were excellent and MEL B had a greater fan base that Helio. What’s up with that? Mya has a fan base as well, though it is quite younger than Donny’s. If you can’t be fair, just skip the voting all together and call it a variety show. Don’t even judge people; just let them perform and get on with it. Maybe let other professional dancers be the judges instead of the ones they have now. At the rate this show is going, next season will be its last.

  19. WHATEVER November 29, 2009

SUGGESTION: Allow presently competing dancers and dance champions to be judges as well AND average both the current judges and the professional dancers’ scores to determine the winners. The judges scores should be valued as 2/3 of the score and the audience’s votes should be 1/3 of the score. Why? Because dancing with the stars does not reward growth, skill, effort and technique; it rewards popularity which is not what one expects in a competition. One expects competence. Oh well. This may the last season for that show. Gilles Marini, Mel B and Mya are the latest casualities to fall subject to the producers’ popularity driven results. They are losing the very demographic they seek, the young and the ethnically diverse. The latest result is an affront to fairness and to the viewers they seek to attract; this contribute to this season having the lowest ratings of any show in their history. WAKE UP! WAKE UP! Try something new.

Don’t think it;s the judges. It’s America’s prejudices showing up every time. To be young, black , woman, that’s three strikes against you.

I just received confirmation on Tuesday night that DWTS is racist and rigged. To take it a step farther, those tea party retards are racist. They have systematically refused to vote for talent. Instead they want to promote and support the views of Sarah Palin who is a complete joke. DWTS is determined to not allow a black female win: Vivica Fox, Mel B, Toni Braxton, Lalilah Ali, Macy Gray(could not dance), Mya and now Brandy. Brandy deserved to be one of the final three. How do you consistently low scores week after week and still be on the show? Tea party racists, that’s how!
