According to our good friend Necole Bitchie, R&B star Ashanti is set to release her 5th studio album independently on her own label Written Entertainment. {Source}
Slated for release later this year, the as yet untitled record will hit stores some two years after the release of her criminally underrated LP ‘The Declaration’. A commercial disappointment, the latter saw her eventual departure from Universal Motown, as well as the severing of ties with Irv Gotti and The INC last year.
I still find it utterly baffling that, despite having stepped her game up significantly, folks still take shots at Ms. Douglas. Confused.com with that one. In any case, here’s wishing her much success with this new record 🙂

I ride for Ashanti hard core. So as long as she releases music I am happy, and will continue to support her.
I just hope this doesn’t allow the world to write her off as a whole. The issue with Independent labels is that they really don’t have much funding to promote artists. And this was the whole issue why ‘The Declaration’ was criminally underrated! So I am really scared.
I really hope Ashanti can have her own label underneath a bigger label so they help with promo, kinda like what Pitbull is doing.
I hope she can get her label underneath Interscope, I think they will do her right. ‘The Declaration’ had so many good songs, if you haven’t bought it, it def. is worth the money. Whoel CD was great but standouts were “In These Streets,” “Struggle,” “You’re Gonna Miss,” “The Decalration,” I could go on. Many loved the Robin Thicke collabo “Things You Make Me Do.”

I love Ashanti & I’m glad shes releasing it independently but If she wants to stay relevant she has to go pop hell anybody whos anybody knows that. Her music is just too medocre for R&B heads to love it . . I mean The Way That I Love You was her best song but with this album If she doesn’t come right out the jump w/ a hot uptempo record w/ international sound than she won’t get anywhere. . .she has to learn hell look at Kelly Rowland shes gotten her own sound and shes working it. Ashanti needs to find a NEW EPIC sound because if she doesn’t bring anythign new to the table she’ll be the LeToya Luckett/Amerie of 2010 because to tell u the truth R&B is DEAD …Pop is where its at so I wish her well but I feel with her personality she could be a legend its just she has to reinvent herself so she can gain new fans . .be inspired like Madonna did to stay around so long!

I don’t get why people still hold her voice against her. Others, who can’t sing half as well, have been given chance after chance and excuse after excuse. Ashanti is the only one who gets any backlash, despite improving her stage presence and vocals.

I hope she can shine again. People hate on her game in the music biz….. Ashanti really dont need to prove nothing again… She always was here doing something. As for broadway, acting, and now she have her own Label. I think to make sure it be a 1 worldwide hit she should do a joint venture wit another label. . But again to make my point clear. She already have hits she dont need to prove s*** mane. She did records wit everybody in the game. And Last Ashanti is the most third female R&B Pop singer to have top hits like 15…. I’m sorry but Ashanti is not that talented! Ok yeah she writes but that is questionable because her lyrics are so elementary, for example, “AWWW BABY, OOOO BABY, YEAHH BABY, OHHHH BABY, EEEHHH BABY,..” and so on and so forth! Dancing=No, Singing=Hell no, performing=No. So I’M confused.com on what people see and hear from her! I can honestly say she can act from the few movies she’s been in but I want to see more to get an accurate opinion. Yeah her music is good because it’s catchy and all but I think that is mainly from really really good production! I disagree that she has improved! I have seen no improvement from her since her first album, that last album was straight GARBAGE!!!! Maybe I will see and hear something different from her new material
