A few months ago, Rihanna took part in a campaign to raise awareness for the plight of 7 year old Jasmine Anema who was dying of leukemia. Now, a month after the child has passed away, her mother, Karen Detrick, has accused Rihanna possibly of using her daughter’s illness for publicity. Check out what she had to say below:
Only Rihanna and her team know the real motive behind helping Anema. However, if what Detrick is saying is true, it does indeed seem inconsiderate that the Bajan has not reached out to the grieving family. Maybe Rihanna should take 5 minutes between talking about Chris Brown and performing in her underwear to address the issue by contacting Detrick privately. Just a thought.

How do we know the mother didn’t approach Ri and her people personally? What if she did and got no response so she felt twitter would get the word out.
I would have sent a letter of condolences or called. Not a press release from my PR people on my website or anything like that. My condolences to her mother but Rihanna did something that was very important, she brought attention to this child’s sickness hoping that it would help her find a bone marrow transplant. When rihanna brought the media attention to Jasmina’s situation more than 5000 people came forward for testing to see if they were a match for Jasmina but none of them were. They had no medical records of Jasminas history because she was adopted and being african american this also made it harder for them to find a donor for her. Is this Rihannas fault? As far as I can see Rihanna did something for Jasmina that was priceless! I understand that her ADOPTIVE mother is hurt, but to target Rihanna because of her pain is wrong. Rihanna also honored Jasmina on her website after her death. I think that the adoptive mother should have thanked Rihanna for what she did do for her daughter while she was living. Sometimes the hate goes a little too far, It was not Rihannas responsibility to nurture Jasminas adoptive mother.

I feel you Raychel. You are one of the sane Rhi fans from what I’ve seen. To be quite honest when Rih 1st came out (I was like 15) I freakkin loved her. When people used to talk bad about her I used to get so heated. Like when someone said she cant dance, I was all like “Your momma cant dance” lol she is an island girl like me…so I looked up to her. Now I just really like her fashion wise because I kind of grew out of liking her so much. I dont know why. But I still think she is a pretty girl and she can dress her ass off. And when I go to the salon, usually its her picture I show the hairdresser, saying I want her hair style…lol

Rihanna didn’t need any extra sympathy or publicity because Chris Brown and his fists of glory gave her enough of that. Rihanna certainly didn’t have to give Jasmina gifts, visit her more than once, start a fundraising drive, and help Jasmina find a bone marrow donor. So, what exactly is the mother complaining about? Oh, that’s right, Rihanna didn’t send the mother a empathy card.

I believe that the mother is just upset about her childs passing. Rihanna is a superstar. I think that she genuinely meant well, but she isn’t a normal person from around the corner. I’m seriously questioning the validity of these statements. Especially since Karen Detrick was not Jasmina’s mom. She was the mom of Jasmina’s best friend. And this really doesn’t seem like something she’d say.
