When Mariah Carey set out on her ‘Angel’s Advocate Tour’ in support of her poorly received, and even worse charting, ‘Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel’ LP, we highlighted that it made little sense considering her dismal record sales and public disinterest. It appears such observations have been validated, as it has been revealed that the 39 year old diva is struggling to sell-out 3000 seat venues.
Box office tally’s, as per Billboard (via Mariah Daily), for Carey’s January 27th 2010 show at the DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C, show that of a possible 3166 seats, the songbird only managed to fill 2430… leaving 736 seats empty. Ouch.
Oh Mimi! It’s actually kinda sad to see how things are turning out for her after such an amazing comeback with ‘The Emancipation of Mimi’. I mean even playing such small venues when she’s a star of such a magnitude must have been a blow to her ego; so not being able put bottoms in seats, must be even worse. Looking at the situation objectively, it was evident a mile off that a tour was a no-no, hence why it ever materialised is beyond me. Embarrassing.
Tidbit: In other Mariah news, ‘Angel’s Cry (ft. Ne-Yo)’ is on heavy rotation on UK music TV channels.
Mariah was never revered for her ability to sell a show, it has always been about her voice but not her entertainment factor. Give her a break. Now if they was Janet, Beyonce or Ciara then it would be a different story.
Damn shame! Start making real music again, then she might be able to fill these venues.

I can say this despite the sells at least she is continuing on, she could have made up an excuse cancelled the tour and profitted from it. So kudos for that but the tour was not a good idea maybe a show to mark 20th anniversary and call it a day with sales of memiors I didn’t see this tour being a success. But again she is pocketing money from other arenas so I can’t say all is bad in Mimi world.

Honestly, I believe Mariah has just over-saturated the music scene with her “continuing” sound. First of all the tour is failing because of false advertising. This isn’t an Angels Advocate Tour, it’s a reminisce over my musical career tour where I have no stage presence, drink the whole time, prance around in my 5 inch heels, and make ridiculous amounts of wardrobe changes throughout the show. THAT IS WHY THIS TOUR IS A FAILURE!!!

I question the mindset from which you wrote this article. Are you saying all the shows she played were 3000seats? Was she unable to sell out in all of them? Why single out just this one? Why didnt you write about her selling out at MSG or some of her other venues. Is DC Mariah’s only market? Is this concert representative of her entire image and career? Why haven’t you written about the positive reviews the shows are getting? You used to preach about her having lost her voice, why not anymore? Always looking for something wrong I see. despite the actual cost, seemed cheap, poorly rehearsed and like she didnt give a crap. she was lazy and aloof. her voice was the only enjoyable part which i could have saved my money and listened to it from home with a cheap beer. and the opening act? terrbile. embarassing to sit through.
Lord why do we always have to go back to the same old deal WHITNEY vs MARIAH or vice verse?? come on now!!! they are two great vocalists in their own right (personally i like Whitney better tho), but it doesn’t mean that Mariah isn’t good too. Some people are just more appealing to you than others. I think that the problem with Mariah is that: she doesn’t connect with her old fans (the one who were there at the beginning like me) because she is more into doing teens music nowadays. This is the main issue that i see, she forgot that the older cloud in their twenties, thirty, ect are the ones who actually are more likely to go out and buy the CDs or those tickets to concerts. We don’t ask her to go back to do the Hero kind of song.. We just want meaningful music, not OBSESSED OR UP OUT OF MY FACE!!
Also, at the person who said that Whitney is solding out main areans because it’s a world tour and that it’s her comeback………ummmm no boo, she always had even before when she was still on her thing you know what i mean…….???thank you!
Mariah just needs to take some time of, and she will come back bigger than ever, with great music hopefully!

I went to her Concert in Chicago (2 shows do to popular demand) and I can say that she still very much has a Great voice. Mariah can still sing the old style Ballads, she just chooses not to. But the good news is that her GRAND voice is till there. I also think it is very unfair just to post the numbers for just the unsold out shows…BTW she was FANTASTIC!
I went to her Angel concert. Never again !!!!

If you knock off about 15 minutes total Carey spent off stage for a costume change, she performed for about 70 minutes. With top ticket prices reaching $130 plus extras, it wouldn’t be unfair to raise the question of value for money and her ethics.
