Published: Tuesday 9th Feb 2010 by Sam

In a recent interview WPGC radio, Covergirl model Rihanna discussed what she believes to be the biggest misconception about her – that she’s a “bitch”. Check out the video above for her explanation of why folk seem to assess her as such.

I’m really not a fan of this chick (a few of her songs are my jam, but otherwise I don’t know her), so can somebody answer me this question please? Has Rihanna always hated as hard as she’s hated on now? Or did this all start after the Chris Brown incident?

  14. newsflash haters February 9, 2010

but we all know that rihanna is just a sweet young lady, but of course haters, who don’t know her personally would say she’s a b****, because that’s what people do when they don’t like you. Most of the people rihanna works with always say she is a sweet girl, so brush off the haters and keep it moving ma.

  15. February 9, 2010

do any of y’all crazy heffas know this woman well enough to call her a b****?
no, all you know is that she’s a popular artist and that she makes more money than you’ll ever see in your lifetime.
and she didn’t end chris’ career, which is why his stans are so against her. he did it to himself.

  16. MaZ February 9, 2010

You People seems to like B****** like her as you spend most of your time making comments on her!

  17. yes February 9, 2010

    die already b****!!!!!!

  18. newsflash haters February 9, 2010

@you put the lime in the coconut, it started after chris brown, of course every artist would have some people who don’t like them, but this intense hatred increased after the incident. Its sad that people would hate someone because their boyfriend beat them up. During the umbrella days, people were not hating on rihanna like this. Neither were they saying she can’t sing, and all that. People were all over the blogs oooing and aaahing about what she wore, saying she looks good, loving her songs, saying they like to see her and Chris together and all that. The minute she and Chris broke up, the hating came out for this girl. The point is why hate some over a personal issue between them and their man. People could try to make it seem like this isn’t the case, but we all know that most of the hate is coming from people who are team Chris and want to see her fail.

  19. matt February 9, 2010

maybe i’ll come on this post later and there will be 100 – 200+ comments. get them comments in thatgrapejuice. LMAO.

  20. yes February 9, 2010

    r**** is a b**** ha

  21. MushyLove_1992 February 9, 2010

I don’t know what to think about Rihanna anymore. One minute shes saying she doesn’t want to be the poster child for abuse, the next minute shes doing an interview two weeks before her album comes out.

One minute shes saying shes over the incident and doesn’t want to talk about it. Then the next minute when she does a magazine cover thats all shes talking about.

I mean this women has flip flopped on everything she has said so much, I don’t know what to think of her, or what to believe. Its all a big blur to me.

  22. MushyLove_1992 February 9, 2010

    @Newsflash haters

I’m Team Chris. I dont want to see her fail. Its not right to say that people on his side want to see her fail..

  23. newsflash haters February 9, 2010

@mushy love, but you have to admit that most of the people who are team chris always got something negative to say about her. He was her man, and probably still has love for her, as she do for him, so what does it benefit outsiders to try to pit them against each other and go around hating her.

  24. YouPutTheLimeInTheCoconut February 9, 2010

@Newsflash Hater, thanks for explaining. I thought that might have been the case but wasn’t sure up until now. I think it’s just absolutely amazing how these young females will stand by the abuser and go against the one who was abused. They can say all they want how there’s two sides to every story and that Rihanna hit him first and whatever else they wanna say, but at the end of the day the reason why Chris Brown is a failure these days is because he did to her what no man should ever do to a woman. And nobody can blame Rihanna for being beaten up by Chris Brown, no matter how badly one tries to justify his actions and spin the situation around.

I may “hate” on Rihanna because I feel as though she isn’t that great of an artist and is simply a glorified model who is only as successful as she is because of the way she looks, but I certainly don’t hate on her because of some Chris Brown b*******. Those of you who are telling her to “burn b**** burn” and to “go die”…damn. Yall really need Jesus in your lives or something. It’s one thing to not like a person; to wish death on somebody, however, speaks of how one feels about their own soul (or lack thereof.) Karma has a way of dealing with that type of s***.

  25. newsflash haters February 9, 2010

@mushy love we all flip flop in life, its called being human. Rihanna is not a politician who promised one thing to the voters then switch. Hell politicians flip flop all the time, but do people hate them as much as rihanna? She is young, and people are asking her questions about the incident, she wants to be personable and professional, so she’s answering them. Its not like she just brings it up out of the blue. And another thing. Last night on Extra. AJ interviewed Chris, and he brought up the incident again and asked chris about it. Chris spoke on it again. Does that mean he’s flip flopping? No it just means that this incident was a very serious and public one, where the two involved should expect people to keep wanting to bring it up, because people want to know how they are dealing and coping with it now.

  26. mez February 9, 2010

Clearly that has been the case. Most of her current haters are Team Chris and apparently feel that she was responsible for his downfall. As if she beat herself and then lied on him. I honestly think that most of these haters are stupid YOUNG girls and YOUNG gay men who are hoping to get a piece from Chris which shows their level of maturity and sanity!

Chris beat her down and should face the consequences of his actions. Period!

FYI Rihanna is continually asked about the incident therefore it is STUPID to say that she keeps talking about it! Gee yall haters cant forget about so …whats your point!

  27. YouPutTheLimeInTheCoconut February 9, 2010

I just have to say, in regards to Rihanna flip flopping her story…Chris Brown claimed he didn’t even remember hitting her. What’s worse, there’s so many questions he didn’t even answer, pulling the “I don’t wanna be disrespectful so I’m not gonna comment on that” card, or whatever other excuse he would give. Both of these people ‘equally’ didn’t tell the whole story and twisted certain bits of information around as far as I’m concerned; be it RiRi flip flopping, or CB hiding facts.

  28. Rihxnna February 9, 2010

    love u riri ;D

  29. mez February 9, 2010

I love Rihanna… I am proud of her succcess… I dont see why I or anyone should condemn her about ‘talent’ when it is clear that the best singers and dancers are not necessarily the most successful in this industry. And I maintain it has always been so to some extent. And why single out Rihanna? Keisha, Katy perry, Sean Kinggston, etc etcetc all are weak singers if at all! so leave her alone!

  30. yes February 9, 2010

  31. RANDOM February 9, 2010

i love chris bown’s lil s*** s*** head fans in every rihanna post with the same lament.

  32. Erica24 February 9, 2010

Hey, your name always cracks me up! lol.

I think she is the most “Hated On”. There is a difference. Kanye is “Hated”, Rihanna is “Hated On”. See? LOL. I don’t know what struck so much anger towards her from other ppl, but I think it has ALOT to do with the fact that she may have lied about the incident or messed up CB’S career. I don’t think she messed anything up, they are both supposed to be accountable for their actions. He did what he did, and confessed, but she may have done somethings to, but has not confessed to continue to play the victim. Either way, I like her music, I don’t know her and would never hate her. =]

  33. cutiegurl February 9, 2010

lmao thats so funny i always thought she was a lil bit of a b****, she just give me that stuck up sort of vibe, but i’m still a fan.

  34. cutiegurl February 9, 2010

well sort of a fan lol never liked her music, i only like her style
lmao i don’t think singing is something that comes natural to her, it’s obvious that her catchy tunes, beauty and swag is what made her so popular
    but i like Rude Boy

  35. Lady J February 9, 2010

I used to have the same problem as Rihanna (did I just type that) When I didn’t know someone that well I would be quiet and standoffish too. Why should I be overly enthusiastic about seeing you and being around you when I don’t know you. I’m trying to feel people out. However over the years I’ve learned to counter that standoffishness with cordiality. I’ve learned how to feel people out and still be inviting and friendly. She can learn it too but you’ve got to want to change that about yourself. It doesn’t happen overnight; it takes time but it’s doable

If a man were to act the same way he’s strong and silent! But a woman is a b****! Double standards I tell ya!

  36. hopeful February 9, 2010

Never would define Rihanna as a b****, more stand-offish, if that word makes sense. Not a huge fan, but admire her determination and her eye for fashion.

  37. raychel February 9, 2010

Of course thats why people think she is a B 🙁
rihanna seems like a sweet girl, and I will always love her
@erica24 I agree with you, it seems like people just want to hold grudges on her because shes not saying somthing and she’s wrong for it.
I just really hope things get better for her

  38. sha-mecca February 9, 2010

LOL @ yall always calling her a model and never a singer.

  39. Tha Phoenix February 9, 2010

I may not like her as an artist, but I don’t think she’s a b****. That’s a bit extreme, she comes off a bit cold, but I know some people like that and they’re actually pretty damn nice, so…

  40. Da Vinci February 9, 2010

People need to keep in mind that all these interviews with mag’s were done months before and u haven’t heard her talk about him n a while

  41. Da Vinci February 9, 2010

I also agree a lot of people turned on her after the split like she was in the wrong which still dnt understand

  42. LOVER NOT HATER February 9, 2010

  45. Mrs. Darren shellychelle Sharper February 9, 2010

I think it’s b/c she’s bajan. People of carribean descent get a bad rep for having nasty attitudes and also b/c her image. She’s trying to portray this good girl gone bad image, so it leads you to think she’s a b*tch. and also rihanna it wouldn t hurt to smile, you cant be a bad girl all the time. just smile!

I didn’t like rihanna from the beginning Chris brown had nothing to do with it, I don’t like so called artist who can’t sing, can’t be bothered to write there own songs, play a musical instrument or become a great dancers & entertain to make up for there lack of vocal ability. They are idolized for being fashionable over talent.

  49. hihihihi February 9, 2010

  50. newsflash haters February 9, 2010

@me should we think the same thing about you? because you’re coming off quite bitchy right about now.

  51. Biasdude February 9, 2010

I can understand on that because I’m the same way. If I don’t know who you are why would I act like we are the best of friends? I like to observe my surroundings and be reserved to myself in situations like those. So I can definitely feel where she is coming from with that.

  52. FREE February 9, 2010

to be honest, before the chris brown situation, i never really paid attention to rihanna. she wasnt every where like she is now. I have some of her songs on in my ipod, but thats it. but after the chris brown incident I felt sorry for her. then she went oon 20/20 lied bout everything that happend. lied bout being violent toward chris, that he was the 1 wo always was violent,..her answers were never consistent. THAT TURNED ME OFF OF HER. I’m not even a chris brown fan, but i felt sorry for him.
I never thought rihanna was bitchy, i just think shes trying to hard to be a s** symbol, to hard to appear she dont give a damn bout what people say, its seems sad actually.

  53. newsflash haters February 9, 2010

people are always saying rihanna is lying about being violent to chris. DId Chris ever say rihanna was violent to him? or were there any official reports that stated rihanna was violent to chris. Or is there any past boyfriends who came out of the woodwork to say rihanna was violent to them. SO people are getting mad at rihanna, because her boyfriend chose to beat her to the point of causing damage to her, and then they justify it by saying she was lying. He never said she ever hit him, but people are here just saying that as if its the truth. Just thinking and hoping that something more happened doesn’t mean it did. And why should she admit to something she didn’t do to make you guys happy. and why hate her because of something that happened in HER relationship. It didn’t happen to you guys, so you don’t know what it is she really went through. and @free you feel sorry for chris and he was the beater, but you got turned off by rihanna although she recieved the beating. Something is really wrong with that picture right there. Chris had the opportunity to say rihanna was lying about things, but he never did, and he still isn’t saying that. The only thing he tried to call her out on was her hearing some love song he wrote for her. Don’t you think if there was more to it, he would have used it in his defense, at his trial, to get a lighter sentence, and called her out on his own 20/20 interview. Women are some strange creatures. They will turn on their own fellow woman because of a man. A good looking man can get away with anything, because there are always going to be gulliable women who let his cute face fool them into believing he can do no wrong. WHen the next woman experiences the same thing like rihanna, I wonder if you guys will believe her then.

  54. Symone February 9, 2010

I laugh so hard at The Rhi Stans that come on this site acting as if everyone is supposed to be worshipping her…..Many of you only support her because of your own issues with abuse which clouds your ability to be objective in anything involving her.

Rihanna hit Chris first therefore she is just as much to blame for what went down between them no matter what happened to her.If Rihanna really was serious about this issue, she would have told the “whole” truth.Rihanna also would have advised girls/women not to go around hitting men/boys because you may just get hit back….

I will also say that “people that appreciate and KNOW good music are probably offended by the way her no singing b*** is thrust amongst the public. Many people in the business know that Rihanna got her deal based on who she slept with which is apparent to those with music taste…….If her Stans only knew what she was really like, many of you feel REAL DUMB….

  55. Kenney February 9, 2010

for once she has a good point! i’ve been nice to people before i new them and once i realized theyre really ignorant i just stopped and started feeln them out beforehand

  56. Empirestateofmind February 9, 2010

What the hell is going on here? First of all, none of you know Rihanna. Second of all, please learn how to write in a grammatical fashion. Don’t type the way you speak. Third of all, get the over the incident. It happened. Chris was a d*****, Rihanna’s moved on with her life. You should too.

  57. Empirestateofmind February 9, 2010

Ciara who? She’s just as talented as Rihanna. Not talented at all.

  58. anonymo February 9, 2010

I don’t consider her a bi*ch and I don’t her to hate her but maybe she could think about what she’s doing wrong apart from the ‘singing’? She’s not a good role model for young females and she lacks any charisma.

  59. Tia February 9, 2010

LMAO @ her sucky fans…well at least you have places to congregate and be delusional together, that’s nice. 😉

  60. florida_girl February 9, 2010

    @symone and @free… I agree

  61. DanniB February 9, 2010

“I don’t ahve to be that enthusiastic if I don’t even know who you are yet…people think I’m a b**** because of that.”

..I suppose now we know why her performances are so painfully boring. sheono us, she got an excuse now.

  62. Mrs. rodriguez February 10, 2010

Wow is all I have to say to those who feel that the incident is why she is hated on. I personal believe it’s the fact that her actions speak louder than what she’s saying and maybe people feel that’s fake one min she’s talking about d*** and she wants s** all the time next’s she’s on the cover of a mag stating she’s never been in love and wants to be a role model but has yet talked to a group of young girls and skipped OCT (u know the month for abuse women) only to come out 2 weeks before her album. Or maybe its the 20/20 interview your covered from head to toe wearing a turtle neck???? what happen u couldn’t find any red lipstick or black clothing to match like really a turtle neck WHEN WHERE AND WHY if someone can answer have u ever seen rihanna covered like that it was like what ever to that interview. no I’m not team Chris her actions have a lot to do with why I don’t really like her but who cares she lives her life and doesn’t worry about people who don’t like her as long as she got fans she’s good but don’t blame Chris fans as to why she’s hated some people don’t like neither and feel the way I feel about her.

  63. True February 10, 2010

    February 9, 2010 at 4:36 pm
Ciara who? She’s just as talented as Rihanna. Not talented

Remember when ciara first came out with goodies people didn’t like her because they through she wasn’t a good singer. ciara second album was a good album and she pushed her self as a vocalist, knowing that she doesn’t have power house vocals she pushed her self in dancing & performing, not only that she also has song writing credits, she write for other artist as well.

So when I see so called artist like Cassie & rihanna I just feel I can’t support them because there no craft or progression I just see a manufactured artist who is being supported because of there looks instead of talent.

  64. X,Y,”and Z” February 10, 2010

So let me try to “get my head around this”: “Rihanna is no b****, nor bitchy,” right? At least, this is what she’s NOW trying to say, and is the “theme” of THIS interview.
K, so she’s been in “the industry” and in the spotlight for a few years now and it takes her, JUST-NOW, to come forward and tell us this?

Did she JUST-RECENTLY develop bitchiness? Did we, just-now, take-notice and bring it to her attention? There’s some soft of “time-discontinuance” going-on here.

Again, I’ll ask, why wait TILL NOW, to explain your STANK-ATTITUDE? If “Rated-R” had done the numbers Def Jam had projected, would you have NOW come-forward to explain yourself?

The more-she-talks, the more she “exposes herself” – for the charlatan – SHE’S making HERSELF out to be!

    X,Y,”and Z” — OUT!

  65. I Hate 2 Bust Your Bubble but… February 10, 2010

Im not a rihanna stan nor fan, but I don’t understand why if she offends you so much, she can’t sing, she is this and that, why do you continue to make her famous by posting comments, watching her videos, etc. For some of ya’ll to not like her or cant stand her, u sure know alot about her.

Yes, she talks from her a** sometimes, but she’s young and she will learn. Obviously, some ppl do like her, Is she the best singer in the world, NO? Is she a dancer, NO? but if ppl don’t like her, the SANE thing to do would be to just move on….don’t even bother posting. That’s just common sense. It doesn’t mean your a hater, if you don’t like someone, you just keep it moving. I just think something about her appeals to you or else you wouldn’t click on her posts.

Rihanna is doing her thing, if its meant for her career to end, then it will, just let it happen, but all ya’ll doing is reaping bad seeds for yourself. Remember you reap what you sew, call her a b, talk about her, etc, it will come back to you one way or another. Stop acting like your s* don’t stink!

  66. Symone February 10, 2010

    @FLORIDA_GIRL……Thank you.

  67. Symone February 10, 2010

@ X,Y, “and Z”…..Good to see you post. I enjoy SMART posters who can really see her for what she is! I also laugh at some of the idiots here that feel that think it’s “impossible” for anyone to know her just because they don’t.

Many industry people simply can’t stand her. The only people that tolerate her are guys who are jealous of Chris and that is her “sidepiece and a gay male singer”.She is a massive flop whether her worshippers want to believe it or not,so now she’s doing “damage control”.I will be just glad once she is “REALLY” EXPOSED……..

  68. Keesha February 11, 2010

Okay, I’m a Chris Brown fan and I’m not really a big fan of Rihanna, but how can we judge her and call her names? It’s just as bad as bashing Chris. We don’t know either one of them personally and if the people around her say that she is nice, then maybe she is. I don’t know. I’m kind of a quiet person at times and I’ve found that some people thought that I was stuck up, but really, I’m not. I just think that people need to STOP JUDGING others.

  69. Keesha February 11, 2010

    @DANNIB LMFAO!!!!!!!

  70. Keesha February 11, 2010

@EMPIRESTATEOFMIND Of course we don’t know her, and WE DON’T KNOW CHRIS either! You’re a hypocrite, calling Chris a d*****. He made a terrible decision and he has to learn his lesson from it. That is all.

  71. DUM February 19, 2010

First of all nne of us actually KNOW Rihanna we might think we do but we DON’T. So before you can say she is a B**** you have to get to KNOW her first. You can’t judge her by her music or by what someone said of her when the truth is, they don’t know her either. You can’t say she’s a b**** because of the incident, it isn’t her fault she got abused by a punk. She didn’t put a gun to his head and say beat me. So before any of you can actualyl say she is a b**** get to know her first. But, she might be a b****..who knows because we don’t.

    Love you Rihanna!

  72. DUM February 19, 2010

“Rihanna hit Chris first therefore she is just as much to blame for what went down between them no matter what happened to her.If Rihanna really was serious about this issue, she would have told the “whole” truth.Rihanna also would have advised girls/women not to go around hitting men/boys because you may just get hit back….”

You have no idea what happened. Were you in the caer, were you video taping the whole thing? I really don’t think so, once again people are going off from what they heard someone sayy or what someone posted on a blog on the internet. She probably did hit him but I don’t know and neither do you, he didn’t say she hit him fisrt, nope he didn’t. Don’t you think he probably would’ve said something ro mentioned that in his interviews. I think so. So shutup because you have no idea whats going on. And how do you know thta most people follow her because they have abuse probelsm? Maybewe like her music, you knoew everyone in the world is different. With different tastes in music, and Rihanna’s fans just happen to like RIHANNA! Thats why people buy her tickets and albums and stuff ya know, and maybe she skipped all of that stuff for a reason. Maybe she didn’t feel comfortable going to something like that after whta heppened to her, like she said she doesn’t like to be the victim, it makes her feel weak. She doesn’t want people walking up to her and feeling sorry for her. Or maybe she was in Barbados or in a meeting or recording in the studio that day! Who knows…we don’t!

Have fun yall that are calling her a b**** being insecure egotisitcal pieces of trash. Just because someone doesn’t kiss your ass, doesn’t mean they are a bad person. it just means you’re a selfish overexpectant, insecure, douchebag.

    • Keke February 16, 2023

Sara, nobody is waiting to have their ‘ass kissed’ by expecting another person to treat other human beings with KINDNESS, HUMAN DECENCY, COMMON COURTESY & RESPECT. You have your insecure, selfish, over-expectant, insecure d***** bags confused my dear. All those adjectives describe your ‘hero’ Rihanna to perfection. I don’t think it’s too much to ask for her to attempt NOT to be an asshole for a day. B****** are simply NOTHING special & need to get over themselves. We call it like we see ’em cause Rihanna is a MASSIVE b**** who will never change for the BETTER as long as she has an audience of equally cruel like-minded individuals cheering her on.
