Many people may have forgotten, but before the era of Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez actually had a successful music career. The former chart titan performed at the World Music Awards back in May and reminded the audience of some of her past hits including ‘Jenny From The Block’, ‘Get Right’ and ‘If You Had My Love’ among other song from her catalog. Check out the footage below:
Finally, a Lopez performances that wasn’t completely lip-synced. Although she mimed ‘Waiting For Tonight’, the rest of the showing was live and the choreography, while dated, was still solid. There is no denying Lopez’s star power but with so many younger performers on the scene who have similar appeals (and more talent), she is going to have to find a new way to reach her target audience if she wants to get a hit. It is highly unlikely that Island Def Jam will fund her upcoming project to the extent that they have done for Rihanna (who needs all the help she can get), so Lopez needs to get on the ball and realise that being a fashionista isn’t going to be enough to sell records, especially for a woman in her 40’s. Some new dance routines, some vocal lessons and more current material certainly won’t hurt.
