Many people may have forgotten, but before the era of Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez actually had a successful music career. The former chart titan performed at the World Music Awards back in May and reminded the audience of some of her past hits including ‘Jenny From The Block’, ‘Get Right’ and ‘If You Had My Love’ among other song from her catalog. Finally, a Lopez performances that wasn’t completely lip-synced. Although she mimed ‘Waiting For Tonight’, the rest of the showing was live and the choreography, while dated, was still solid. There is no denying Lopez’s star power but with so many younger performers on the scene who have similar appeals (and more talent), she is going to have to find a new way to reach her target audience if she wants to get a hit. It is highly unlikely that Island Def Jam will fund her upcoming project to the extent that they have done for Rihanna (who needs all the help she can get), so Lopez needs to get on the ball and realise that being a fashionista isn’t going to be enough to sell records, especially for a woman in her 40’s. Some new dance routines, some vocal lessons and more current material certainly won’t hurt.

Yeah I watched the whole awards show last night which was s***. And this was probably the highlight, says a lot really because this performance was so so.

This was the best thing of the night, everything was just pathetic. Kelly was ok but i’m fed up with when loves takes over. I saw on the bottom of the screen “Still to perform…Kelly Rowland” and i thought yeah commander. No. Akon pissed me off like “I come to the WMA every year and the reason is because I always win” – yeah the only place too, dumb ass he won the award for best african producer or sumthin and how many are out there and people know. Gaga won like 4 awards and i dont have anything against her but why did she win the award for best rock album??? And why was Rihanna nominated for that???? Why was the E.N.D. a hip-hop album, isn’t it more dance electro stuff?
Presenters were shizzle, but looked hot. Will.I.Am just annoyed me when he came up to get an award he was like “thanks, everyone else is on tour… Bye” WTFF. some random Japanese/Chinese girl performed (not trying to be racist i just don’t remeber what they said) and she is supposed to be good, I couldn’t tell. The crowd was DEAD when Kelly went into audience and said make some noise. People just looked like they didn’t want to be there. Total Crap.
Back to J-Lo i think it was a good performance and she just needs a fine tuning rather than a total do over. Voice isnt terrible, dancing good looks great. just needs to freshen it up and will be good. Its much harder to get back into the industry after leaving and i think beyonce and gaga have the right idea of not going away. They might not be able to come back. Just look and J-lo, Toni, Mariah (she needs to get some good music or she best just stay at home and look after her baby), Whitney (although platinum and going nothing compared to her better efforts).

is it me or does JLO remind you that after 40 honey, if you don’t pull a Madge and have rock hard guns, cheeks, and gluts, AND a great photo editor, its a DONE DEAL. lol the dress, the shoes, the hair, it just didn’t work for me and i LOVE Ms. Lopez. She seemed to struggle through those VERY dated routines. And at times, it just didn’t look cute for her anymore. Its almost time for her to pull a Janet and look fabulous and do the Britney “prance” around the stage, and let the kids do they job behind her.
On J-LO : great performance; choreography was on point and vocals were good. Just didn’t understand the outfit…
On WWA : I don’t understand why a ceremony whose name is “WORLD MUSIC AWARDS” is such a boring and creepy award show !
(Unless the one in London with MJ, Beyoncé and CB was great.)

I think that the performance wasn’t that bad. It wasn’t awesome, but it was good. Yes, one has to admit that her performances in this era haven’t been on par with some of today’s contemporaries. However, she should be credited for the fact that she bothers to put in a lot of effort into making sure that her performances are of quality. The choreography may not be as modern or as innovative as Beyonce’s or Lady GaGa’s, but that was a hard routine that she performed. The medleys of past hits that she’s been performing serves as a reminder that she has left a significant mark with hits that have stuck through time. It’s sad, though, that in this industry not all past successes guarantee you a spot of relevancy today. I agree that she has to work so much harder to make sure she doesn’t get pushed into the background. But needless to say, it would comfort me to know that struggling artists like Mariah Carey and herself come up with material and live offerings that’s true to themselves, without the reliance of lip-synching, auto-tunes or anything synthetic. At least we know that at the end of the day, even if they tank, they’ve tried their best and it’s just not their time anymore. With that said, I can’t wait to get new material from her, granted that it’s worth the listen!

Jlo did a great job. Although I don’t think she needs to wear those high boots because they make her look very short and awkward with the dress. Other than that I enjoyed it.

The performance was cool. The dance moves is dated because they were a decade ago. She was stiff in places, and the hair…..no comment. But it was overall an ok performance. I haven’t really like any of her recent songs. I prefer her acting (because she’s great doing that), but I’ll check our her new music when it drops

I agree with the comment by Randy (above) about not taking long breaks because there’s no guarantee that you’ll be able to come back like before. Some bloggers complain about artists like Beyonce or now Gaga not taking much of a break but I think they are playing it safe. I recently saw an old clip of Patti Labelle on Soul Train at the beginning of her solo career and Don asked her why she stays so busy and she said she can’t afford to sit back because someone would slide into her spot. It’s the same with any other work field, if you don’t take care of your business, you’ll be replaced. No one has the luxury of sitting back, not even celebrities. Jennifer clearly is RUSTY. She can’t dance like she use to and she never was much of a singer. The performance was just OK.
KEVIN, I see what you are saying; it will be hard for Jennifer to keep up with someone like Beyonce because she’s a much better vocalist AND Beyonce also dances better than Jennifer did above. I agree with MUSICLOVER91, Jennifer is so STIFF in several parts of the dance routine and the moves are dated. Jennifer can’t afford to be slipping in the dance category because of her vocal limitations.
Beyonce is NOT a better dancer than Jennifer. Jennifer danced for Janet, and that’s not an easy feat. That performance wasn’t perfect, but don’t compare. Get Jen a better choreographer—which many of those dance were from her old videos.
I do believe Jen’s era ended when Beyonce started—and jacked much of her template with stronger vocals.
SPARKD, I didn’t say Beyonce was a better dancer than Jennifer; I said Beyone dances better than Jennifer did in the performance above. You stated all the reasons why above (Jennifer needs new moves and a new choreographer). Comparisons are inevitable. It’s going to happen, just like you claiming Beyonce jacked Jennifer’s template; isn’t that comparing?

The performance was okay.. it was long to me…She did lipsynch(mime) most if not all of the vocals which is to be expected because of the amount of dancing she did.
I have always thought she was a great PERFORMER, not singer. I’m upset her vocals haven’t gotten stronger but I guess either they won’t or she doesn’t place alot of importance on that. Still I don’t see why she couldn’t have a significant comeback, her fans didn’t go anywhere, they still exist so if she makes music that they want to hear then she should be good.
Maybe Island Def Jam will spend some $$$ on her, I doubt she would have taken a deal without some assurance that her project was going to be well funded. She has had tons of success previous and I think they are banking on that. Def Jam is going to want major return on her because she is J-Lo, so the pressure in on. Good Luck to her!

It was nice to see her roar out with a medley of all of her hits, to kinda remind us that she was once a music hitmaker. Some moments did seem awkward, she lipped a little(not all the way though), and her look was kinda dull. But she still has a chance.

Maybe her new label Def Jam has plans on reinventing her and making her the big popstar again that she desires to be..
She must have styled herself for this performance…..because everything she is wearing is designed to make you look THICKER….. the hair, the length of the dress, and the length of the boot…..its all at the perfect length to give the illusion of hips and curves…..BUT as a woman who already has curves WHY in the world would she wear that…. #StylingFAIL…….
