Jazmine Sullivan Sets September Release For ‘Love Me Back’

Published: Friday 23rd Jul 2010 by Sam

Soulful songstress Jazmine Sullivan will release her sophomore effort on September 28th, according to Amazon’s latest listings. Tentatively titled ‘Love Me Back’, the album – the follow-up to 2008’s ‘Fearless’, is preceded by the Missy Elliott produced single ‘Holding You Down’.

With no video in sight for ‘Holding You Down’, and promotional efforts still in their earliest stages, I can’t help but think that the date is subject to change. Regardless, I’m more than amped for the album. After Jazmine’s was unceremoniously shut-out at last year’s Grammy’s (five nominations, no wins), we are – as I’m sure she is too – eager to see her achieve the success she deserves. Roll on September….

    Love this song! She is so talented, even though I hate when she strains..which is pretty much 95% of the time.

    *reaching out to U*
    So I know this comment is random but I’m coming to the readers of that grapejuice for sum help. I recently went through a horrible break up with my ex and I’m still hurting over it. He’s now with sumone new.and it’s killing me…
    but music is my outlet; my medicine and that’s why I’m coming to the readers of TGJ, because over the last 2 years of coming to this site daily I’ve learned that you readers have and amazing knowledge of different music and genres. So I need sum good new music to help me overcome this heartbreak. I need new songs of encouragement, empowerment (in the vein of “i will survive”). Right now my ipod is filled with nothing but love songs 🙁 .
    so I wanna thank you for reading and thank you in advance for ur help. I could really use it <3

    Jazmine Sullivan is one of the best artists to come out in a while. She is an excellent writter (monica’s Everything to me) and a good vocalist. Missy isn’t handling her career @ C…she’s just a producer…and her a&r. Its Clive Davis who we have to get her away from. I mean his only real concerns are Whitney and Alicia…with the occasional consideration given to Jennifer Hudson. All other artists on J Records are gonna do gold and then fall off.

    @phatmat44, try these:

    You Oughta Know; You Learn- Alanis Morissette
    Someday; Fly Like A Bird & Make It Happen- Mariah Carey
    Why Don’t You Love Me; Green Light; Irreplaceable; Kitty Kat; Me, Myself & I- Beyonce
    A Woman’s Worth- Alicia Keys
    Respect; Do Right Woman, Do Right Man; Look Into Your Heart- Aretha Franklin
    Young Hearts Run Free- Candi Staton
    Jesus Is Love- The Commodores
    Hopeless- Dionne Farris
    Don’t Cry For Me; I Cried My Last Tear; All Woman- Lisa Stansfield
    Not Gonna Cry No More- Mary J. Blige

    @phatmat44:
    BTW, most of the songs on my list are self-explanatory, however you have to listen to “Green Light” and “Kitty Kat” carefully to get the message. In “Green Light” the man is not doing the things he use to do and acts like he want to leave her, so she gives him the ‘green light’ to go ahead and leave, stating “ain’t no problem you can go, I will find somebody else, so why not move along.” In “Kitty Kat” the man is taking her for granted– leaving her home alone at night and not returning calls, so she (along w/her ‘Kitty Kat’) decides to take matters into her own hands and leave him. These are two fun, simple songs w/an ‘it’s over, but things will be ok’ type message from Beyonce’s B-day album.

    IMO This is the best song to get over a breakup!!!

    Mya ‘s “If You Died I Wouldn’t Cry Cause You Never Loved Me Anyway “

    Jazmine is an amazing talent,I hope she receives recognition for
    her talent. Unlike , some other artists she can actually sing and is
    not just another beautiful stage prop.

  19. BENJAMIN July 24, 2010

    I look forward to it.

  20. MR. STILL STANDING July 29, 2010

    For the dumb ass that said the song hasn’t charted yet, the song is at #46 on the R&B/Hip Hop songs chart.
