Prince Talks About ’20Ten’ Album

In a recent interview with The Mirror, Prince spoke about his upcoming album, ’20Ten’. The legendary musician revealed why he has decided to release the record in partnership with the publication and not via the Internet like other artists. In fact, Prince emphsasised that his detest for the web and compared it to the now “outdated” MTV. Peep an excerpt from the interview below:

He explains that he decided the album will be released in CD format only in the Mirror. There’ll be no downloads anywhere in the world because of his ongoing battles against internet abuses.

Unlike most other rock stars, he has banned YouTube and iTunes from using any of his music and has even closed down his own official website.

He says: “The internet’s completely over. I don’t see why I should give my new music to iTunes or anyone else. They won’t pay me an advance for it and then they get angry when they can’t get it.

“The internet’s like MTV. At one time MTV was hip and suddenly it became outdated. Anyway, all these computers and digital gadgets are no good.

“They just fill your head with numbers and that can’t be good for you.” {Source}

    *WHO OWNS THE THRONE?*

    *YOU DO MOMMY!*

  3. EXPOSED July 5, 2010

MEEHHHH, HE’S A FLOP!!! GUARANTEED FLOP ALBUM WITH THIS MARKETING APPROACH. BESIDES, ONLY TAKES ONE PERSON BUY THE MIRROR TO UPLOAD IT ONTO THE NET AND HE’S DONE. LIMEWIRE, YOUTUBE, BLACKMUSIKFIRST – EVERYONE WILL HAVE IT. HE’S JUST MAKING HIMSELF MORE AND MORE IRRELEVANT BY SHUTTING DOWN ALL THE AVENUES AND SINKING DEEPER INTO HIS JAHOVAH’S WITNESS’S HOLE. GET WITH THE TIMES BRO.

There he goes again, blaming new technology for his declined popularity, and this is coming from a fan. You don’t want to put your stuff on iTunes, that is fine, iTunes is a ripoff anyway. Youtube is like the new MTV anyway, because MTV abd BET rarely play videos anymore, with the exception of early morning when people are getting ready for work, and the “outdated 106.” Everyone flocks to Youtube to see videos now, that is why Vevo was created, so in a sense, Youtube is one of the main sources to stey relevant now. Youtube is the only way to refresh on oldies that once made these legends popular, including Prince himself. Many people don’t know, but Prince actually made 2 videos for his lackluster selling LotusFlow3r/MPLSound album last year, but MTV and BET didn’t play that. I saw that s*** on Youtube, only place to find it. He closes down his website, that is fine, it sucked anyway and he never updated it, just a waste of Flash animation and graphics. He needs to undertand that the internet isn’t over, it is the FUTURE, it is never dying, however music television is, and he needs to get with the flow, because the man hasn’t been on top of the charts in over 15 years.

Don’t you hate it when you are writing something so good and you forget to check for spelling. I’m gonna get better at that.

Prince is so beautiful it’s crazy.

  7. Darren July 5, 2010

Wow I love Prince but he has no idea what he is saying. Artists who don’t use the internet are nuts. it just proves that he is all about money. Trent Reznor puts his albums on his website for free cuz he is all about the art. No matter what we all will still be able to get a bootleg copy of “twenty ten” on every t****** site.

  8. FreshUrbanEnt July 5, 2010

THE COMMENT ABOVE DOES’NT MAKE SENSE, HOW IS PRINCE ALL ABOUT THE MONEY WHEN HE’S GIVING THIS ALBUM OUT FOR FREE IN THE NEWSPAPER SMH.
ANYWAY I CNT WAIT TO HEAR WHAT PRINCE HAS IN STORE.

LMAO!! You throw that shade Prince – and you KNOW MTV will stay play your vids like crazy. He’s on the same level as MJ and Madonna – all three are legends & icons. They can say whatever they please and can’t nobody say a damn thing.

P.S. Do you remember that sideeye he did at the BET awards during Trey’s performance? And then later when he only thanked Alicia and Patti for their performance?

    I DIED!!

    😀

  10. jasminee July 5, 2010

Umm clearly all of you are CHILDREN and have no history regarding Prince. He did the same thing with his last album and he ended up winning a Grammy. Soo what ru tlking abt? Only an artist of his caliber can get away with not selling his music on the internet. He doesn’t appleal to internet-driven teenagers. Adults are more willing to actually go out and buy his s***. Why do u think Susan Boyles old ass sold 5525 million copies? RiTard could never get away with that s***. She still isn’t plat yet..bahahaha

  11. Last Boy on Earth July 5, 2010

All hail the King! 2 days ago MTV was playing his song “Kiss” such a classic!

  12. AlexanderTG July 5, 2010

If this is the way he wants to give out the album why should anyone else care – I’ll just buy the paper that day to get the album.
But I just don’t get the comments re the net, and gadgets filling your head with numbers.
    @JASMINEE
Hardly anyone I know actually goes out and buys CDs – why would I make a journey to the nearest HMV just to pay up to £5 or £6 extra to buy a CD that I then have to take home and rip onto my PC when instead I can download the album and be listening to it in 10 minutes and not have my shelves cluttered up with plastic boxes – I think its only older adults, like 35 plus who still like to have the CD in their hand.

  13. hihihihi TRANSFORMING INTO A GOAT July 5, 2010

    TRENTIA F**** ANIMALS

  15. WannaBGirl July 5, 2010

I agree that Prince’s music is marketed to the older audience. However I feel that he should use his talent and industry saavy to inspire and teach rather than to scoff at the younger generation. The digital age is definitely not played out. It’s not the past or the future; it’s the RIGHT NOW and it’s only going to expand.
Prince could learn a thing or two from The Roots on how to stay relevant in this cracked out industry.

  16. TheYoungLion July 5, 2010

Prince will always be relevant… hence TGJ reporting his every move lately. Stay mad!!

  17. Ebony July 5, 2010

Good job Prince. Notice how your favorite artists claim prince as an influence? This is why. Ignorance is not bliss young folks

  18. stan July 5, 2010

    whatever

  19. likeCAESAR July 5, 2010

Prince is a living legend….death to whoever tryna dirty his name!

  20. Vincente July 6, 2010

What Prince forgets is that when MTV was “hip” he was riding that wave himself with his own music videos.

The internet or Youtube is the new (hip-era) MTV. Prince needs to ride that wave.

I hope this album is better than the last one he released in newspapers (Planet Earth).

Planet Earth had maybe three good songs out of the ten. The rest were crap IMO. The good ones were: Future Baby Mama, Chelsea Rogers and Guitar.

Fingers crossed its another Sign O’ The Times. Or maybe like 1999 since the name is reminiscent. SOTT is the best music album ever created.

  21. Nick July 6, 2010

    God he’s funny…..
he states that “all the gadgets are filling our heads with numbers which cant be good”
while he’s promoting his new album which is called “20TEN”
    he’s a d*** that’s full of contradictions….
ohhh why did I ever tattoo that symbol on my arm??????
he will always be an exciting live act but his recordings have lacked a unique energy since Rainbow Children.
I loved him when he was confused and searching for the unknown.
he needs to not be so sure of things he cant be sure about…..
just be creative and shut up idiot.
and just officially release the long version of Computer Blue
and all the other hidden gems that are just rotting away in the vault for nothing .
he’ll never top that s*** so just release it……
but nooooo he would have to pay wendy and lisa and co….. and he doesnt wanna do that does he……..
    D***!

  22. Jerzeeboi July 6, 2010

Honestly…If thats how he wants to do things, that’s his business. I will still buy it regardless because i am a fan. No matter what this man does….damn if u do, damn if dont. I would rather listen to something from him than this crap on the radio. Its real music…live music!!! Congrats Prince on ur new album!

  23. Anne July 6, 2010

I agree with those who support Prince either way. Doesn’t matter how he promotes or distributes his music, I will get my copy. He’s a living legend and has earned the right to express whatever opinion.

  24. raraskils July 10, 2010

    LOL!
im sorry but…the internet will never be outdated…it is nothing like MTV….this old genius has finally fell off his rocker!!!

  25. raraskils July 10, 2010

    @THA PHEONIX
do u think maybe he just forgot to thank Janelle Monae and that other chick that performed that tribute for him? cuz they were really good too!

  26. Jerzeeboi July 13, 2010

Hey Rara….I believe he did thank Janelle and Espinoza? Did i spell that right LOL? Internet is never gonna die but i guess he has had something happen for him to change the way he promotes his music. The world needs to really stop and realize that there is alot more important things than to worry about how Prince sells his music. It amazes me on how years ago we drove to our local record store and didnt mind buying a vinyl…and now we are caught up on digital downloads. Im just old-school and believe in supporting the artists than old fashion way.
