This week’s classic From The Vault clip comes courtesy of En Vogue and their 1992 smash ‘Free Your Mind’. Lifted from the ladies ‘Funky Divas’ LP, the song packs more than a pulsating beat…it packs a powerful message. A message conveyed oh-so-well by Dawn, Terry, Cindy, and Maxine in its accompanying video.
Watching this kinda has me hopeful that some of today’s charting acts will be inspired to fuse powerful and necessary messages into their music – if even only to try. For, as this shows, it is indeed possible to weave-sling, Naomi Campbell walk, and rock out to a song which boasts lyrics other than those centred on the same ol’ topics of love and clubs.

Please, ROYALKEV…how long did most of these groups last? You got one thing right by mentioning the Supremes, but you forgot the Pointer Sisters. EVERY one of those groups listed above owe a debt to the Pointers. And not one of them — Supremes included — could touch the sisters vocally.

They have won more VMA awards than any other girl group in history,En Vogue gets thanked the most. You don’t see anyone thankin DYKELC except for DYKEtrik RED.

ROB, you’re so right. None of these forgettable girl groups can compare with the Pointer Sisters. Name ONE other female group that sang jazz, scat, bebop, country, soul, dance, pop and rock. Plus the Pointers wrote some of their material. And you can bet they actually wrote it, and didn’t steal it from other songwriters (that means you, Beyonce).
Absolutely tru about the Pointer Sisters. En Vogue = another manufactured girl group that couldn’t take it past TWO albums without changes in the lineup. The Pointer Sisters = years of hits and harmony, cause it’s in the blood.

EnVOGUE were the S***!!! they ALLLL could sing their asses off. And this video is just timeless. And all those groups including the Pointer Sisters are fav’s of mine. Why people always gotta compare, why can’t they just do what they do and contribute what they contribute.
And honestly album sells don’t mean s*** to me because their are albums that sold 10 MILLION (britney;s baby one more time, Spice Girls,) that I just could NEVER get down with and there are others just got over looked that play heavy on my iTunes.
