There must be something wrong with me, because I didn’t think this or Katy’s performances were that bad. They were both average performances at the most. At least he was singing live.
Sam, puberty is expected for Bieber. His voice is going to change and I don’t see why that would be laughable, but this is pitch issues not voice cracking. Tevin Campbell had a few live performances going through puberty in 92 when he tried to sing “Tell Me What You Want Me To Do”… Sure, Tevin can sing a lot better, but his bigger songs still came after his voice change. Half of the I’m Ready album is classic, especially “Always In My Heart”.

Actually, the Backstreet Boys have released 3 successful albums in the last 10 years (they sing soft rock now) and they’ve had sold out tours recently. So they didn’t exactly fade into obscurity. AND NSync produced one of the biggest solo stars of the last decade, Justin TimberFake. I was never a fan of either but they achieved things most “real” artists never did.

IKR. Kevin so delusional. Backstreet sold over 100million albums and NSYNC sold over 50million and produced Justin Timberlake. So they weren’t exactly “flash in the pans”, which is what that Justin Beieber twit is going to be.
This s*** makes me appreciate Michael Jackson even more. Even when he hit puberty he still sounded like a REAL singer without all that cracking off-pitch, out of tune b*******. No wonder people thought he was taking hormones. He actually wasn’t. His vocal coach Seth Riggs confirmed that Michael was a natural tenor (which Mike said himself) and he had a 4 Octave range (incredibly RARE for a male alto)

YES!! Unfortunately, bands like Backstreet Boys, NSync, NKOTB and the Spice Girls sold more records than most “real” and truly talented artists sold together. Their music may have been fluff but they did their job as artists. They made TONS AND TONS OF MONEY for their record labels, not to mention none of them had albums selling under at least 20 million. DAMN. The 90s were incredibly good for manufactured boy/girl band pop music.
Michael couldn’t have had a 4 octave range.

It wasn’t that great but he is going through puberty. It’s just a fact of nature and it happens to most boys. Being a singer doesn’t make you immune to it. He’ll grow up and get through it. I’m not really a fan but give him a break.

Frankly, I respect Bieber because his music is undeniably catchy and really isn’t that bad. He is a pop icon because girls have someone to wish was their husband. Eventually, like any artist, it will die down. He worked hard to get to the spot he’s at now and to wish it away is just pure jealousy. His voice isn’t annoying and his music is tolerable by anyone. If you’re tired of hearing it, plug your iPod into your car and listen to whatever choice music you have. Everyone has their tastes. Music is about doing what you love and putting yourself out there to have fun, as you can see Justin Bieber is doing. He has just as much right to be out there performing as any other artist or band.

Say what you will about the Backstreet Boys’ present popularity or whatever, by the equivalent time in their careers (compared to Bieber) they had produced SEVERAL hits that crossed over into the adult contemporary genre and STILL play on adult contemp radios today-ie Quit Playing Games, As Long As You Love ME, All I Have To Give. I have yet to hear a single song from Bieber that capture the ADULT audience at all. If all he can produce is songs for 12 -17 yr olds-he’s doomed.
