Christina Aguilera Addresses The Failure Of ‘Bionic’

Published: Friday 10th Sep 2010 by Trent

Despite the fact that her ‘Bionic’ album has been one of the biggest commercial failures of the year, Christina Aguilera has remained generally quiet about the situation. However, the singer has finally broken her silence about the LP’s inability to break any records except for becoming the lowest selling #1 album in the history of the UK. Check out what she had to say below:

Speaking at a press conference for her new movie Burlesque, she said: “The creative process that involved Bionic is over, I did what I wanted to do and I’m satisfied with it. If the album sells or if the songs are a hit, I don’t care and I don’t need to know it, I did my part and I gave 100% while I was doing it, and I’m proud of this work.”

Discussing the film, she added: “Burlesque was a different process, I’ll support this project util the end, but not to find out if it was a box office hit or not – that is not what motivates me. The creative process is my thing, I’m an artist and once something is over, I look forward for what is next, and I don’t look back.” {Source}

While it is commendable to see Aguilera being so honest about her artistry, the fact is that the music industry is a business. Even if she doesn’t care about her record sales RCA/Sony Music have surely taken note of this situation and will lessen the amount of creative control that she has over her work in the future.

Aguilera’s sales have been steadily declining since the release of her debut album. Although some might argue that sales figures have been decreasing throughout the industry ask yourselves this: why is it that Beyonce and Britney Spears still have the ability to get a platinum album (or even gold for that matter) and Aguilera can’t? People frankly aren’t interested in what she has to offer anymore.

What is most interesting about Aguilera’s statement is that she contradicted herself – if she cares so much about her music then why would she so easily move on and not look back at what she has created to see how well it was received by her fans? Or is it that she blatantly doesn’t care about what her fans have to say?

Aguilera seems completely absorbed in her own world and hasn’t noticed that it is rapidly crumbling around her. She needs to get a clue before she gets dropped from her label as quickly as her album dropped from the charts. Things are about to get dirrty.
