Christina Aguilera Addresses The Failure Of ‘Bionic’

Published: Friday 10th Sep 2010 by Trent

Despite the fact that her ‘Bionic’ album has been one of the biggest commercial failures of the year, Christina Aguilera has remained generally quiet about the situation. However, the singer has finally broken her silence about the LP’s inability to break any records except for becoming the lowest selling #1 album in the history of the UK. Check out what she had to say below:

Speaking at a press conference for her new movie Burlesque, she said: “The creative process that involved Bionic is over, I did what I wanted to do and I’m satisfied with it. If the album sells or if the songs are a hit, I don’t care and I don’t need to know it, I did my part and I gave 100% while I was doing it, and I’m proud of this work.”

Discussing the film, she added: “Burlesque was a different process, I’ll support this project util the end, but not to find out if it was a box office hit or not – that is not what motivates me. The creative process is my thing, I’m an artist and once something is over, I look forward for what is next, and I don’t look back.” {Source}

While it is commendable to see Aguilera being so honest about her artistry, the fact is that the music industry is a business. Even if she doesn’t care about her record sales RCA/Sony Music have surely taken note of this situation and will lessen the amount of creative control that she has over her work in the future.

Aguilera’s sales have been steadily declining since the release of her debut album. Although some might argue that sales figures have been decreasing throughout the industry ask yourselves this: why is it that Beyonce and Britney Spears still have the ability to get a platinum album (or even gold for that matter) and Aguilera can’t? People frankly aren’t interested in what she has to offer anymore.

What is most interesting about Aguilera’s statement is that she contradicted herself – if she cares so much about her music then why would she so easily move on and not look back at what she has created to see how well it was received by her fans? Or is it that she blatantly doesn’t care about what her fans have to say?

Aguilera seems completely absorbed in her own world and hasn’t noticed that it is rapidly crumbling around her. She needs to get a clue before she gets dropped from her label as quickly as her album dropped from the charts. Things are about to get dirrty.

See, the thing that Xtina doesn’t understand is that she is a very mainstream artist and people spend a lot of money on her just to drop an album. Solange can get away with saying something like “I’m going to drop an album because I feel like it and not care what anyone thinks about it” but she’s her own independent artist. Xtina cannot say that since RCA is a worldwide label. I’m going to need her to look outside of herself and examine what this industry is in 2010-2011. It’s totally different than her Stripped and Back to Basics eras from just a few years ago.

    That’s all.

  5. Kayla September 10, 2010

Im so over this chick….. Her attitude sucks.

  6. goats suck September 10, 2010

That album flopped soooo hard, it was honestly an embarrassment

  7. lovelarah September 10, 2010

Its true & i love xtina.
i imagine in her own words this came out in a very bitchy i do what i want tone.

    where is the humility X???
you are a lucky girl, show some appreciation.

  8. JD September 10, 2010

Christina did NOT contradict herself, your only saying that because you dont like her Trent. I have the album and I listen to it every day. You should be more concerned about Mariah trying to save face on her next album, because if you forgot, it old sold like 300k copies. Xtina is an artist. Not a puppet. She does what she wants and she doesnt care what people like you have to say. Britney and Beyonce’s sales have declined too. Britney’s 1st album sold 20+ million copes. Circus sold 1.6 million and Blackout has yet to go platinum so I dont know why your trying to say people arent interested in Xtina especially when her last album won her another grammy. You really must think sales equal relevance and if that were true, than YOUR fav’s last album would have went double platinum. Check the opinions of REAL people, not your so called “sources”. You FAIL as a blogger.

  9. BrealK September 10, 2010

I’m happy she didn’t claim the album wasn’t her best work and that she was rushed through it by the label. I hate when artist go on every talk show or radio station all happy about an album saying it’s their best work and then talk reckless after it doesn’t sell. I might just go by this album since she was honest and stand by it. It may be good after all.

  10. @101feven101 September 10, 2010

Wow. The person who wrote this clearly does not like Christina. Personally, I believe that her album was not one of her best work, especially her first single “Not Myself Tonight”.
But just because this album was not as successful as her previous ones, does not mean that the public does not want to hear her anymore or aren’t interested in her anymore.

Look at Mariah Carey, she had a period when she was not doing so great, with a flop movie and a low selling album; but look what happened a few years later with The Emancipation of Mimi. That really redeemed her to the people who counted her out.

Bottom line: Christina is a very talented vocalist and has the potential to make another hit album. It just needs to be well done and needs to connect with her fans, and non fans alike.

  11. royalkev September 10, 2010

Wow , these comments about Christina make no sense! If the album isn’t well received and that doesn’t matter to her then why should she look back? She’s proud of her hard work, she gave it 100%! That is all that counts. What more do want her to do? Sometimes it’s best to sit it out and come back hard next time! There are alot reasons why she didn’t sell and I’m sure she’s well aware of what presented a problem. If she just continue making good music(because Bionic is a good album), she’ll eventually come back and be successful when it’s her time again. I’m sure when she do those issues will be long gone and a certain somebody’s 15 minutes will be up. It’s no sweat and it’s not that serious!

  12. Tony September 10, 2010

This is UNCONFIRMED by a primary source, which would be Christina’s website, RCA Records or Christina herself. Additionally, quotes from her on this matter have been copied and pasted from various interviews dating back since JUNE.

Be patient, wait for a reputable source to confirm this before reacting. Her comments can be easily taken out of context, which appears to be the case here.

The creative process of Bionic was recording and the photoshoots which obviously ended before the album’s release. And the last quote about her being done with one project and moving on to another was regarding her transition from BACK TO BASICS in 2006 to Bionic in 2010, NOT About scapping Bionic. It can be found here on Youtube, video posted JUNE 15TH:

  16. movieman September 10, 2010

    lol poor floptina

  17. Bob September 10, 2010

Yassssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss Trent go in! You hit the nail on the head!

  18. C-mo Love September 10, 2010

Good for you Christina. Though, there are some songs on Bionic that I skip…the work as a whole is a good album. It is a shame that the media (bloggers included) pit artists against each other and album sales are affected. Next time don’t make comments about someone being a “newbie” and just keep the focus on your art. It should always be about the art…not the competition of the art. Keep on singing your song and keep it classy. Because you are.

  19. thekiddz September 10, 2010

I actually thought this album was as good as “Stripped”. It was a solid body of work and she kept the vocal flourishes under control, although her vocals are becoming increasingly coarse her voice still has a nice smoothing quality to it. She just needs to work on her technique.

  20. Tony September 10, 2010

Regardless, Bionic or not, I support Christina’s decisisions 100% as a fan, and I consider Bionic my favorite of her albums, as well as my favorite album period. It has satisfied each and every possible expectation I could conceive of having for an album, and is a stunning success. I will continue to enjoy it despite what the media will claim, correct or erroneous!

  21. thekiddz September 10, 2010

    *soothing quality* Damn typos…

  22. Trucie September 10, 2010

wow, I don’t know who Trent and Sam think they are. They talk like they really understand the music industry and its artist when clearly you two are just two gay bloggers with biased opinions. OMG I can’t wait for this era of entertainment news (if you can even call it that) to fade. Trust me I won’t miss it. These blog sites are just ridiculous. The reason music was so greatly appreciated back in previous decades was because we didn’t have blog sites who lead their android followers in one track thinking of who should be praised and who shouldn’t. Its almost like the bloggers who follow no longer form their own opinions but rather they just agree with what Trent, Sam, Sandra Rose, MediaTakeout, TMZ, theybf, say. You two are gay, and the only thing you should be able to give expertise on is how to give blow jobs and not on the career choices of seasoned artists like Christina.

  23. lala September 10, 2010

christina is one of da best vocalists around so am sure she can pull a maraiah n make a big comeback.
as to why beyonce n britney always sell
well dats because they have some of the most dedicated fan bases who will always have dier back no matter wat
christina kinna lacks dat huge following
people like gaga n rihanna are also quickly developing that fan base

  24. Rated X September 10, 2010

christina sweety, u know damn well u were trying to get a hit with this album..hence the madonna/britney/knockoff video u put out..

she was trying to compete with the other chicken heads out there.. lets keep it real christina..

bionic was garbage, and christinas stank attitude didnt help toward the sales either..

now that it flop sudenlly she wasnt trying to make a hit?
so all those magazine covers, all the promotions she did for bionic, was just for the heck of it?

i only wish her the best, shes still my girl though, but bish get it together…..

  25. sam September 10, 2010

lol…trent u broke m*********** working free for some washed up website. christina actually increased album sales with her second album “stripped”. sort out ur reporting dickhead

  26. Rated X September 10, 2010

    @lala
cosign.. she does have one of the best voices out there… but sometimes i feel her attitude over shadows her voice, and hell even fans like me get turn off by it…
u forget that bish can out sing the majority of bishes out there..

bishes like britney(whos voice cant hold a candle to christinas voice) always gonna sell..
britney never acted stuck up, rude, and a total b****..
and her fans can admit when she f**** up…

but christinas stans will be quick to call u every name in the book, for saying anythin negative..

  27. True Blue September 10, 2010

    Hmm, let’s see…

Three highly successful albums, one flop, and you’re already suggesting that she’s gonna get dropped BECAUSE of that one flop? By that reason, most artists with long-term careers would get dropped from their labels left and right!

As someone else pointed out, Mariah Carey had her period of flopness as well, did she not rebound? Exactly. The only time a label drops a highly successful artist from their roster is if they release a series of flops. So far, this has not happened with Christina. People weren’t interested with “Bionic” because both the image and sound felt too contrived. I was one of those people who wasn’t feeling “Bionic”, but that doesn’t mean I will stop being a fan of hers altogether because she put out ONE album I wasn’t feeling. As long as she puts out an album her fans can get with, she’ll be just fine. She’s one of the few pop stars who doesn’t have to rely on image to remain relevant. Even when she’ll get old and wrinkly, as long as she still has her voice, her fans will always be interested.

    @ TheKiddz:

I agree, Christina has one of the best voices I’ve heard, but the one thing that bothers me about her is her penchant for vocal acrobatics. I wish that she would just SING a song instead of zig-zag it most of the time. Sometimes her and Linda Perry have butted heads over her vocal techniques.

  28. True Blue September 10, 2010

    * By that reasoning.

  29. Rod September 10, 2010

This is b*******, you don’t even know where this “information” came from. There was a time where people actually cared for sources; there’s no point on telling Christina what to do when you don’t even know if she actually said those things. That’s why she doesn’t listen.

  30. Carmenmicheals September 10, 2010

I have to agree with an earlier comment at least she didn’t give any excuse or cop out as to why the album didn’t do better. When reading her comments on the movie I stopped to re read what she said about the album. I felt she contradicted herself because for a woman that is as outspoken & in control of her career as her why isn’t she going to see it thru to the. Is it b/c the record company, she’s promoting the movie, or she just wants to move on.

Also it’s your music songs you’ve sang and will continue to in concert tv spots and private functions. You always look back even if you decide to rework them.

I feel she was more honest when giving her opinion of other female artists and prior to the albums release.

  31. Sarah September 10, 2010

Christina doesn’t have 3 highly successful albums. Her debut and Stripped are the only 2 albums that were very successful.

Christina’s attitude is very s*****, and as MJB once pointed out, her career won’t last long with that kind of attitude.

Plus, if she didn’t care about hits and sales, she wouldn’t be promoting her albums and trying to get her name out there. She would just say f*** the promo and go about her business.

Christina is as fake as her bleached blonde hair.

  32. thekiddz September 10, 2010

    @True Blue

That’s because she has no idea how to phrase or add to the structure of the song. Most of her runs lack a base note and consistency. Don’t even get me started on her enunciation LOL and it pisses me off, because her voice is really beautiful (when she’s not straining). It’s too late now, the damage is done.

  33. Sarah September 10, 2010

Her next album will flop as well. Just watch.

  34. True Blue September 10, 2010

^^^ “Back 2 Basics” sold 5 mil, that counts as being successful, idiot.

  35. True Blue September 10, 2010

    @ TheKiddz:

Sounds like she should’ve worked with a vocal coach when she was younger. Although some great singers never had any voice lessons, and they have near-perfect control of their voices. Freddie Mercury comes to mind…

  36. thekiddz September 10, 2010

    @True Blue

Funny thing is she has and still gets trained. She just can’t get it right. Out of this generation only you know who has flawless technique. And yes Freddie Mercury is sublime.

  37. ~TeAM WeeZY~ September 10, 2010

OMG! I wasn’t gonna comment but @True Blue and @The Kiddz, you guys are so awesome! I f*cking LOVE Freddie Mercury! It’s not everyday you come by people who know and listen to the same people I listen to. COOL!

  38. ~TeAM WeeZY~ September 10, 2010

And I so agree about Christina’s voice. She could be so spectacular yet her technique is horrible. She held back on Bionic (not like she had choice considering she destroyed her voice with all that screaming). In result, this album became some of her best vocal work IMO. I don’t think “You Lost Me” would have been as good if she was still screaming/yelling.

  39. True Blue September 10, 2010

    @ The Kiddz:

Wow, and she STILL messes up like that? Either her coach failed her or she just refuses to listen…

    @ TeamWeezy:

I know, it’s rare for me to find people with diverse taste in music as well. You a Queen fan in general?

  40. iLoveXtina September 10, 2010

i think i could say that 97% of fellow Xtina fans agree that Bionic is an excellent album. She knows what she’s doing when it comes to music, her music has substance, which a lot of artists are lacking these days. & about Beyonce & Britney, they don’t take 4 years to release an album. i’m actually quite surprised that Bey ONLY has 3 albums, she has released a single every damn year since her solo debut, so she’s always in the spotlight & all eyes are on her.

Britney doesn’t take 4 years either, & she probably doesn’t work half as hard. Hell, only thing she has to do is sit on her beanie chair, eat cheetos, play with her c****** cooch & say “oh yeah i like that, ya’ll.”

Bey & Brit haven’t sold as well as their respective debuts either. Hell Brit flopped with Blackout. (Don’t tell me it was lack of promotion cuz i saw her drugged out face on the cover of every magazine & newspapers every damn week). Mariah flopped (which is why you included the Gold certification in your post, you ain’t fooling nobody, b****). Timing, bad moves from RCA, foul comparisons with Lady CaCa, & words taken out of context had to do with Xtina’s flopping, not the album itself.

  41. True Blue September 10, 2010

^^^ I’m one in the 3% that didn’t like “Bionic” then. I enjoyed a few songs off of it, but overrall, I wasn’t feeling it.

But I agree with the rest of your post.

  42. True Blue September 10, 2010

    * overall

  43. ~TeAM WeeZY~ September 10, 2010

    @True Blue

HELL YESSSSSSSSSSS, I’m a Queen fan. They are like my favorite group EVER. Love them.

  44. thekiddz September 10, 2010

    @ Team Weezy

That’s because we like artists who are actually talented. Now all you need is a look, the right team, and autotune finishes the rest.

“I don’t think “You Lost Me” would have been as good if she was still screaming/yelling.” EXACTLY! She had no choice but to tone it down, she didn’t even “whistle” on Bionic.

    @ True Blue

That’s the beautiful thing about music. It can bring people together, start cyber riots, ease a broken heart. It just has to be GOOD. If you’re passionate about your art, it will shine through. And Queen represents that and so does Christina (so I can stay on topic Lol).

  45. Mr.727 September 10, 2010

People simply don’t f****** get it! We can sit here and point the finger at tisk and task, but it will not excuse the inevitable fact that her choice in music caused her to flop!!! I feel like I’m the only person in the world that can see that no matter how you look, how good you can sing, whatever the case; it is time to change the sound of music , change the ways notes flow, how you connect with the lyrics of the song!!!! This cheap non sense that we call music now, is just a blinding oasis of b*******!!!! I feel that she just wants to put the past behind her and move on; whoever I will admit her f****** ego is totally overshadowing her true feeling about the project!!!! Honesty though of these back in the day singers, want to be received by the public, get awards, have number one albums?!?!?!?!? “MAKE MUSIC WITH A MESSAGE THAT IS NOT DENSE, OR SHALLOW IN ITS INTENT TO ONLY GET A BODILY MOVEMENT, BUT AN EMOTIONAL REACTION”!!!!!!! If she wants success again, she needs to ditch the pop techno, stay the f*** away from these unattached idiot ass producers, an f****** bring on a classic, cuz this s*** she called Bionic is officially “DOA” !!!! I can absolutely see her angle but her timing was simply off! Sorry kids but your auto tunes, your dougies, whatever the f*** you kids call it is dying faster than your Auntie pet dog! Like in ’08 when people where on the whole collective of change????? Well it is time for music to do the same!!! “F****** Change”!!

    Thank you!!!

Now back to my regular pot smoking precession!

  46. JCGemini22 September 10, 2010

Granted, i think that Christina needs to knock the knucklehead attitude. She’s always been like that. Sometimes OVER confident. And it’s this that tends to overshadow the true beauty of her voice. She is one of the great voices of our time. I personally believe the time of GLAM and VANITY and NOT HERSELF TONITE…lol for her, its done. She’s not some young chick anymore. She’s not some new girl hitting the scene and needing to prove herself. Chris needs to OWN it. Hell, I remember back when Destiny’s Child was opening for her! If anyone can remember this performance; “A Man’s World” she sang at the Grammy’s a few years back. She came across legendary. A true grace to music. She needs to stay that way.

  47. thekiddz September 10, 2010

    @ I Love Xtina

“Mariah flopped (which is why you included the Gold certification in your post, you ain’t fooling nobody, b****).”

LMAO! I’m a hardcore LAMB and I find that funny. You guys should check out his youtube page. http://www.youtube.com/user/trentnjones

And it’s funny you mention that Bey only has 3 albums, will all the talk on the blogs you would think she had twice as much. But I agree with your post. Christina isn’t going anywhere for awhile, she’s got the talent. This was just a bad time for her, that’s it.

  48. iLoveXtina September 10, 2010

@True Blue lol i pretty much got that percentage out of my ass, don’t know the exact numbers but yes the album had some weak songs (for me one of them was Elastic Love). I felt like some of them could have been replaced with the Deluxe Edition tracks. Thanks for agreeing though.

  49. thekiddz September 10, 2010

*with all the talk* Ugh. typos

  50. heyheyhey September 10, 2010

MY QUESTION IS… IF SHE IS AT A PRESS CONFERENCE, WHY WOULD SHE BE

TALKING ABOUT BIONIC? THIS IS ABOUT BURLESQUE!

AGAIN TRENT IS JUST MAKING S*** UP AND STARTING MORE LIES! TRENT IS PEREZ JR!

HONESTLY, I DON’T THINK THERE WAS A PRESS CONFERENCE BECAUSE XTINA HAS

BEEN VERY BUSY PREPPING FOR ALL THE PROMOTION FOR BURLESQUE AND

    FINISHING THE SOUNDTRACK!

I NOTICE HOW EVERY TIME TRENT POSTS SOME B******* ABOUT XTINA, IT’S NEVER

CONFIRMED BY HER CAMP, AND YOU KNOW WHEN IT’S FAKE!

  51. OnlyGollumInTheMordor September 10, 2010

    this is 100% her fault.

and the last one standing is Britney.

  52. iLoveXtina September 10, 2010

    @thekiddz that’s what i’m saying!

i love Mariah too, she’s easily one of the best vocalist of our time, but can i ask why does she call you guys her “lambs”? lol

  53. thekiddz September 10, 2010

    @ILoveXtina

It’s a term of endearment for Mariah. She said it means you’re a loved one or a close friend. Or maybe she thinks she’s a shepherd. *kanye shrug* LOL Basically, the hardcore Mariah fans are lambs. The ones who have all her albums, and the remixes and the bonus tracks and all the unreleased stuff and even saw “Glitter” (awful movie by the way)…

  54. ~TeAM WeeZY~ September 10, 2010

    @The Kiddz

Yes, we actually love people with TALENT!

And I’m so stupid, cuz I knew nothing about that lamb reference. I guess I’m considered a lamb, too, because I have ALL of her albums, watched COUNTLESS performances and watched that atrocious movie ‘Glitter’ (I actually LOVE the beginning scene when ‘little Mariah’ sings in that club). I think she kinda tainted her legacy by extending her career this long, just my opinion.

  55. True Blue September 10, 2010

    @ TeamWeezy:

They’re my favorite group ever as well! I think I’ve seen about all their performances on YouTube, and I re-watch them over and over and over and over again, they’re addictive as hell.

So what’s your favorite song/album from them?

  56. True Blue September 10, 2010

    @ TheKiddz:

Agree on how music can bring people together (and divide them as well, look at all the Rihanna posts, LOL), and yes, Christina will bounce back as long she puts out another solid album. Now if she had no memorable talent to speak of, this would undoubtedly be bye-bye for her career.

  57. BLACK September 10, 2010

DAMN TRent, dont take the knife out her back too quick, she might bleed to death

  58. Sarah September 10, 2010

    True Blue,

You stated Christina has 3 highly successful albums. B2B sold 1.6 million copies in the US and 4.5 million copies WW, which isn’t highly successful but certainly a success.

Go back and read what you originally stated, fuckhead before coming off as the dumbass that you are.

  59. Gilberto September 10, 2010

What’s Happening to the world? Christina Aguilera flopped, but we have untalented singers like Katy Perries, Ke$has and Rihannas having back to back mediocre hits. Shame!

  60. That FLOP Juice September 10, 2010

    Sarah!

And who cares about the US anymore? Wake up and look around the new world order where the US is just one out of a dozen country.

Hahaha. The US is over. Not just in political sense, but in the music industry too. Wake up fellow Americans, the US is NOT the world, it’s just the small part of it, which is hated by almost the whole planet. XD In other parts of the world people don’t care about record sales and chart positions. It’s a wake up call, kids!

  61. lola September 10, 2010

Finally, NOW PEOPLE CAN STOP BLAMING THE RECORD LABEL FOR THE FLOP OF THIS ALBUM! I can’t stand fanatics who make excuses for an artist when his/her album flops. Christina had full control over this sh**y album and tried to stay in the game because of artists like LADY GAGA were doing it big, but yet, she failed. The electro-pop album “Bionic” is horrible! It has a bunch of cheap 80’s synth sounding tracks with repetitive and bubblegum lyrics and her ballads are extremely cliche and boring. There are only a few songs on there that are very good, but the rest is crap. Those who say the album was amazing or one of her best, must be saying that because they forced themselves to like it because they love Christina, or because they love just about anything. Her best album was her first. And stop comparing her flop to Mariah’s because look at the time period. Mariah was able to refresh her sound and fit in with the sound of 2005 but there’s not much more artist can do now except that electro-pop or dance/pop and Christina’s already tried that and failed. Her career is over. FACE IT!

  62. Mr.M September 10, 2010

    Bionic >>>>>>>>>>>>> ALL Fatyonce’s album

  63. nickalus Randle September 10, 2010

this is a good album, a great 1 actually, whats is hurting her is LADY GAGA! she has taken over, I mean, I do NOT think they are alike, BUT they r white & blonde, sorry BUT they are going to be compared 100%, o well, aguileras attitude is a little stank anyways…BUT I bought it, I LIKE THE CD A LOT !!!! sad this is happening…

  64. Richard September 10, 2010

The thing is, people like Britney and Beyoncé may be two of the biggest female artists in the world after over a decade, yet the one thing that really distinguishes them from Christina has nothing to do with sales – humility. Both women are appreciative of their success, work hard and have a genuine sweetness about them. Christina always comes accross catty in interviews.

Her comments here seem childish. I’m sorry, but anyone who pens songs called “s** for breakfast” on their album does not care about the artistic process. If she really did care about that, then she would have released the album over a year ago, and not after she was forced to go back into the studio after her label declared there were no radio hits on her CD.

  65. S*** September 10, 2010

    Death @ Mr.M

    Bionic was a HOT MESS!!

Xtina has NEVER had a great album!! All of them are generic as hell, most her songs arent even worth a mere preview. & all that screaming doesnt help much either. YOU FAIL

    Beyonce’s Worst Album(B’Day, No SURVIVOR) >>> Yelltina’s Best!!

IM SORRY BUT i HATE HER VOICE & I CANT STAND MOST HER MUSIC.

  66. S*** September 10, 2010

& DBL DEATH @ anyone that thinks Bionic is a “GREAT ALBUM”

    *DEAD & BURIED”

BIOFLOP gets a 2/5 at the very best. FAIL

  67. GangsterA September 10, 2010

omg thats sad her bitchy self and bad peformances didnt help either i also agree with @true blue,@team weezy,@thekiddz on the vocal thing

  68. Theman September 10, 2010

Do not put Mariah in this, before The Mimi album she did’nt ever really flop, all of her studio albums were all platinum plus. It’s just that she is a huge album seller, so that was’nt what people had expeced from her. Now with Memoirs’ it was’nt the biggest selling album due to the label picking poor single choices, but guess what it did indeed strike gold, and had a top10 hot 100 hit, and although i like Christina so far she has’nt done that.

As for Britney and BEYONCE bLACKOUT’ IS PLATINUMIT HAS SOLD ALMOST A MILLION COPIES. Beyonce’s latest two efforts have sold near the same amount, when u factor in declining album sales her and Britney have done very well. Blackout came at one of Britneys lowest points. And Circus’ has sold about 1.7 million units, which is more than Blackout’.

So they’re sells are solid. Christina has a loyal following her attitude and wrong single choices screwed her over. She still has songs on her album that can be hits tho to me.

  69. James September 10, 2010

You just contradicted yourself with this post Trent…..the music industry is a BUSINESS so thats why Rihanna continues to release dance-pop, because its f****** selling. You argue about Rihannas creativity and how from rated r to loud shes changed but its a business so why not stick to whats selling, and looking at her fun side again?
And if people dont care about what Christina says, why has bionic been certified gold in 2 countries? Dude, christina still sells a shitload and shes only done badly because of the comparison to madonna and the competition at the moment. Lets not forget how well Keeps Getting Better did.
    Get. A. Clue.

  70. bips September 10, 2010

all i have to say is that this analysis is really cheap!!!!!! and that’s why the industry is in crisis people who don’t know s*** about music think that they can understand what r the dynamics in process……trent u have to dig deeper than that …nexxxxxxxxxxxxxxt!!!
p.s: i’m not even a fan of the lady …..:-)

  71. Stoney-Brie September 10, 2010

this is sad… but Britney lipsyncs and her music is so worked on by the mixers and engineers so that it sounds good .. Christina can sangg!!!

she made a mistake ofcoz with bad choices of words in this but she is a talented woman!

  72. mgaskwatter September 10, 2010

Ugh! Why mention Mariah’s name again in this thread.

If you compare “Bionic” and “Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel” in terms of performance (sales, promotion, charts & popularity) then consider the latter more successful.

Success is no longer determined with just US sales alone but international statistics as well.

  73. Tha Phoenix September 10, 2010

    @Richard

    *FIVE MINUTE STANDING OVATION*

I have both of Christina’s first albums. She’s one of the most talented artists of our generation and one of the best vocalists (her poor technique aside). However, one of the many reasons I cannot stan for her is that she has a foul attitude. Insulting Lady Gaga ( who is more relevant than you atm) was the worst move she could have made.

However, unlike the Beyonces and Britneys of this world, she has no humility, grace or manners and hopefully the flop of an admittedly good album will have taught her this.

  74. daseekah September 10, 2010

I read another article wherre she was blaming lady gaga for the failure….sorry but she hating on gaga for no reason and as far as i am aware, her ego is HORRIBLE. So perhaps the failure of bionic will give her a slice of humble pie.

  75. Mr.M September 10, 2010

    @S***

Yeah thats why the album got a ton of positive reviews

AGAIN, Bionic >>>>> ALL Thiefyonce’s album

    MAD ??? LMAOOO

Just 4 the grammys and we’ll see the one you said ‘screaming’

wining a best pop female VOCAL performance. FOR SURE . HA!

Xtina is the voice of her generation

Fatyonce ??? Thief of her generation.

    LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Do U remember DC opening for Xtina??

    Who owns the throne ??

  76. The truth teller September 10, 2010

BEYONCES best piece of work is DANGEROUSLY IN LOVE. that is THE BEST Beyonce albun So far. B-day was a GAY ulbum it was specially created for the gays and I AM SASH FIECE was a DEMONIC ulbum. DIL is the best so far in her entire career, just PURE, and HONESTwith no strings attached.

  77. lovelarah September 10, 2010

“s** for breakfast” is a perfect example.
the song is empty & meaningless it’s not new, it’s is not s*** or alluring it is as hollow as a tube we have seen her run through 1000x

…but the vocal is FLAWLESS, the melody is great -it turns a nothing song into something really nice but it makes for a major disconnect…i never listen to it.

what can you do with that?

  78. Trent September 10, 2010

Trent catch a brick and go f*** yourself, no one cares about your b******* opinion, you guys know Bionic was hot you listed some of the tracks as your favorites when it was out. Her label were obviously not willing to back this project 100% as christina has not even set foot outside the USA to promote this album at all, obvious signs that there are label problems, in this day and age no artist can have success with an album if there not out there pushing it, with the album having an international list of producers and songwriters it would have been a smash world wide had it had the proper backing. She did the best she could as an artist and she has made a project that she is proud of, she is a modern day legend and she’s here to stay as Mariah says “They can try, but they can’t take that away from me”.

  79. OUPS I S*** ON YOU AGAIN September 10, 2010

    @TRENT/SAM
Christina is not POPULAR.people love Britney and Beyoncé(as a person).I feel like I really know who is Beyoncé;They are accessible persons;even rihanna is always walking in the streets to make sure that people are noticing her presence.
We know nothing about her personal life ..She need a tweeter or something like that.

Christina seems a lonely person as well;If Bieber fans know that Justin loves Beyoncé;they gonna love her too ….That’s the reason why Rihanna and Katy Perry are making their friendship public.Beyoncé with Gaga/shakira and alicia etc
THAT’s the reason why bey/brit stans support them so much, not only for the music .
So,We cant deny the toughts that she is rude and all

Christina is not consistent with her image (ie Rihanna)

Bionic was a really great album but without any hype around it.Even “Pink Friday “by Nicki Minaj got more hype

  80. dboy September 10, 2010

no doubt xtina is sxtremely talented BUT SHE CLEARLY HAS AN UGLY ATTITUDE DON’T TRY TO MAKE EXCUSE LIKE OUT OF CONTEXT OR STUFF LIKE THAT, ANYONE WHO KNOWS KNOWS SHE BEEN CATTY FOR AGES NOW AND PLS DONT BLAME BEYONCE, BRITNEY OR MARIAH FOR HER POOR SALES, IT’S NOT THEIR FAULT

  81. Robert September 10, 2010

Christina stans don’t try to come for Mariahs Memoirs sales cuz even though it flopped it sold double of Bionics flop ass sales. SAT DOWN

  82. Robert September 10, 2010

Oh and Mariah had a PLATINUM single did any of Chrissy’s singles go PLASTIC? I think not.

  83. RosaRubbel September 10, 2010

In my opinion the whole ‘Bionic’ era didn’t fit Christina’s talent. Christina is way better than this electronic/mainstream-music (vocally). Of course ‘Bionic’ had some great songs (‘You Lost Me’, ‘Little Dreamer’, ‘Lift Me Up’), even the more electronic ones (‘Prima Donna’, ‘Elastic Love’) were OK, but she should keep it more classy, because her voice deserves better than that.

  84. Antom September 10, 2010

I don’t know why people is so worry about sales ??? Xtina sold more than 46.000.000. Already !! 3 sold out world tours, plus another coming up. By forbes xtinas fortune is 90 to 100.000 mill with tha can of money you can live rich for the rest of her happy life!!

  85. Antom September 10, 2010

Her las 3 world tours made about(46.000.000)(115.000.000)(102.000.000) plus over46.000.000 albums sold!!! Hahaha b****** xtina no only Is a pop superstar she also is one of the richs females in music industry!!! Get a life f****** gay little monsters.

  86. Angie September 10, 2010

Record sales aside, please introduce me to a real Christina Aguilera fan who did not enjoy Bionic. Yeah…didn’t think so.

  87. NAS ( B Rockah Stan 4eva) September 10, 2010

Come on guys use your BRAINS!!!!!!!!! Xtina is clearly hurting under the circumstances hence that choice of words. Is like having an argument with your mother or siblings and saying ‘ I don’t care’ when you know very well that you didn’t actully mean it but came out at the wrong time.
All those Oprah and huge promotion was for nothing believe you me only because she’s disappointed at herself, the industry and the fans(disloyal ones) hence you do the maths…………..!!!!!!!!!!!
The fact is everyone (except me and few others-tongue) are easily brain washed and in the process turn your backs on the real artist.
Wonder what the so-called stans will do to Beyonce in the next 5yrs down the line!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  88. Shariff September 10, 2010

I HAVE THE ALBUM AND I THINK IT IS A GOOD ALBUM… I LOVE MORE THEN HALF OF THE SONGS ON THE ALBUM…

  89. locodude September 10, 2010

    anyway I love this ALBUM!

  90. NicoleNYC September 10, 2010

XTINA HATERS FIND SOMETHING BETTER TO DO THAN MAKING UP LIES AND UNSUPPORTED RUMORS ABOUT XTINA. IF YOU HATE HER AND HER MUSIC SO MUCH, WHY ARE YOU FOLLOWING EVERY BLOG THAT TALKS ABOUT HER. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT NOT MATTER WHAT SHE DOES, YOU WILL ALWAYS FIND WAYS OF CRITIZICE HER. JUST LIKE MARIAH IF SHE WERE TO BE DROP FROM HER RECORD LABEL, I HAVE NOT DOUBT THAT SHE WOULD BE SING BY ANOTHER ONE RIGHT AWAY. BESIDES, MARIAH GOT THE BEST PART OF THE DEAL ($28M PAYOFF + SIGNED BY ANOTHER RECORD LABEL). I AM QUITE SURE THAT RCA/SONY WOULD NOT MAKE THAT MISTAKE OF LETTING SUCH A TALENTED ARTIST GO AWAY.
@TONY, THANKS FOR SHINING SOME LIGHTS ON THE CUT AND PASTE OF THIS REMARKS.

  91. ERIC September 10, 2010

LOL, NOW SHE DOESN’T CARE! CHRISTINA YOU’RE A GOOD ARTIST BUT YOU WON’T BUY NOBODY WITH THAT!
SOMEBODY NEEDS TO BURST HER BUBBLE!
AND THIS A PRETTY IMPRESSIVE AND INTELLIGENT FACT TRENT POINTED OUT
“Aguilera seems completely absorbed in her own world and hasn’t noticed that it is rapidly crumbling around her. She needs to get a clue before she gets dropped from her label as quickly as her album dropped from the charts. Things are about to get dirrty.”

  92. Jared G September 10, 2010

Ok..lets get real boO boO..im by no means a christina fan or hater..but bionic was a pretty hot album overall. The failure comes from the first single choice..not myself tonite sounded like it could have been recorded years earlier and didn’t bring anything fresh to the table..shittt..nicki minaj couldn’t even save woo hoo..and nicki helps everybody out wit radio play…even at britneys worst..blackout still managed to sell 300.000 units first week wit a mess of a personal life and zero promotion…its all about the fan base..and christina jus doesn’t have a strong one..but her voice is one of the best in the game…

  93. @101feven101 September 11, 2010

    “LOLA
    September 10, 2010 at 7:24
And stop comparing her flop to Mariah’s because look at the time period. Mariah was able to refresh her sound and fit in with the sound of 2005 but there’s not much more artist can do now except that electro-pop or dance/pop and Christina’s already tried that and failed. Her career is over. FACE IT!”
    ——————————-
2005 was only 5 years ago!!!!! It’s not like we’re talking about the 70s or 80s or something.
How do you know that all an artist can do is electropop or dancepop? Different genres of music can still exist. You can’t predict the future, even experts get it wrong, and I doubt that you’re a music expert. People said the same thing about Mariah, that her career was over, but it wasn’t, just like Christina. The only difference was that Mariah’s flop was at a much larger scale.
You are saying those things because you don’t like Christina and that is just sad when you have hate for someone who has never done anything to you and someone who has a real talent in a time when anyone can be a singer with autotune. Seriously, and I’m not even a big Christina fan, I just like artists who are genuinely talented.
What I’m saying is let’s appreciate the talent we have while they’re with us.

  94. SunDee September 11, 2010

i think… Most of the music blog writers claimed their selves as: damn good music commentator. But yeah it’s not… they always have a favoritism going on. make a big hype with their most fan artist & Pin point on their rivalry… so they look uglier.

just for what? for hype their blogs with fighting of drama comments.
For Xtina case… what the what Mariah included in this post?

This news is old btw, if you’re a great blogger, you can Edit this post by sayin’ this is wrote in JUNE before the Bionic even released.

I Hope this kinda HATRED blog will die soon (too much unnecessary drama these days). Leave the critiques to Music expert…

  95. Rosa September 11, 2010

*sigh* That Digital Spy article was way taken out of context.

1.) Christina has ALWAYS stated ever since her Stripped era that she cares about the music itself, not how much it sells or the commercial succes. She loves music, she loves making music for HER fans. And unlike other artists who only care about the money, she’s more invested in the process and the art of it.
2.) She is always proud of her work and regrets nothing. Why should she? She still has a loyal fan base because whether people like it or not, she can beat both Beyonce and Britney in a vocal battle. She is simply the best voice of this generation.
3.) No her label will never drop her. She’s their biggest artist no matter what. And she’s with them for a long-time contract. Her label gives her freedom to do any music she likes. She’s not going to do a certain type of music for the public unless it makes HER happy first which is a great thing.

Every artist had their bad era but I’m proud of Bionic because it’s a great record in my opinion. And You Lost Me is the best vocal song this year.

  96. coco September 11, 2010

reason only 1: Lady Gaga & $ Perez Hilton

  97. XtinaBionic September 11, 2010

I feel that this album is not a flop…its definitely not her best but it isnt what the person describe it to be. And the only reason why Bionic did not do very well comerically because she went furturistic in Bionic. And b****** in this world would say, “OMG! SHE COPIED LADY GAGA! LETS NOT BUY HER ALBUM!” When they do not realise that Lady Gaga did not create the term “furturistic” and she is not 100 percent orginial either. She copies Xtina and Madonna too. Also, people only care abt s** and occassional wailings in songs but Xtina offers music with depth and substance which is not appreciated by many. Think about it, you’re no.1 songs now on hot 100 are usually songs that says, “i want s** and drugs” like our dear Ke$ha and you do not see songs with emotional and lyrical depth charting on Hot 100!

  98. xtincta September 11, 2010

You X-tincta fans stay making up lies. Blackout has sold a million albums in the US, Jive just hasn’t had it certified and it has sold 3 million worldwide. Circus has sold close to 5 million world wide. Bionic hasn’t even sold 500,000 albums worldwide so lets not!!!!!!!! People are tired of that h**’s over-singing and poorly put together cds which are full of fillers. We’re also tired of her clown looking ass selling s**. No one wants to see her popping her snatch for coins and ripping off Madonna!

  99. FLOPnetFLOPson September 11, 2010

To address the DESPERATE FLOPtina fans (if there are any left) about the Mariah comparisons:
Yes, Mariah flopped hard with Glitter (even though, she still won RCA’s most requested artist). But BEFORE that, she became the biggest female artist of the 90’s. She destroyed every record humanly possible. Before FLOPonic, TRANtina NEVER acheived any success that would make Mariah cringe. Mariah had her iconic status to return to…something that FAILtina never developed (and never will). As for Bionic vs. Memoirs; Obsessed made Mariah the sole female artist with the most platinum singles in the US. She also won the People’s Choice Award over four others who are practically half her age. I Want to Know What Love Is became the longest running #1 hit in Brazil (over 70 weeks), which led to the success of her recent Brazil concert. THAT right there is success. NONE, and I mean NONE of SLUTina’s single’s from her failure of an album made the slightest budge of an impact on any music chart in any universe.
Got that all you FLOPtina fans? All four or five or you left? I better not catch Mariah’s name associated with that failure of a singer in another thread again.

  100. SunDee September 12, 2010

^ I respect Mariah Carey big time… she’s one of the best!!!
& you got it right. “Better not catch Mariah’s name with Xtina”
They are different… so stop comparing.

  101. JustSayin September 21, 2010

One thing we cannot deny: Christina Aguilera is a better vocalist than Beyonce, and most definitely Britney. Britney even admitted that fact in her interview with Diane Sawyer in 2003. But Beyonce and Britney get to #1 so easily because they have huge LOYAL fanbases, that they do not neglect. Both Britney and Beyonce show way more humility and appreciation for their success than Christina. Christina comes across as a ‘bitchy’ singer, who feels as though she is doing the world a favour by making music. Another thing I hate is when artists talk trash about other artists, and we all know that Christina has publically spoken badly about Lady Gaga in 2008, so i dont feel bad that she was brutally compared to Lady Gaga (in 2010), and came in second best. Her four year absence also did nothing to strengthen her fanbase, and when she finally decided to comeback she flopped because Bionic was a bad. Christina fans can blame the Lady Gaga comparisons all the want, but if Christina had a stronger first single, Bionic would not have flopped, even if Christina created a carbon copy of the Lady Gaga video. I do feel that Christina could comeback on top, but it needs to be soon (not in 4 years), she needs to find a style and stick to it for a couple albums, and she needs an album that is abit more mainstream. Oh and she needs a new attitude too.

  102. irene brewer September 27, 2010

    @ xtincta…

christina’s b2b cd has sold over 7 million world-wide as of 9-2010 so if we can’t call it HUGELY successful maybe we can call it LARGELY successful!

    @ xtincta & justsayin…

‘bionic’ sales are worse than wicked but it took over 2 years and a campaign by her hard-core fans to repurchase britney’s ‘blackout’ cd for it to reach 1 million u s sales. 3.5 million world wide sales of ‘blackout’ and 4.5 w/w of ‘circus’ is nothing to get puffed up about considering all the britney boot(y) kissing and overhype done by the media and blogmasters. britney’s fanbase is LOYAL, but huge? NOT SO MUCH!

wonder what britney or any other artist’s sales would be like if they had to put up with the hate slingers that constantly savage christina?

  103. irene brewer September 28, 2010

    @ trent…

you had the very gull and somewhat sheer stupidity to use britney as an artist who maintains repectable album sales in contrast to christina. britney happens to have the hugest decline of record sales of any female artist ever.

britney’s gone from selling 20 to 25 million w/w (1999-2000) to ‘blackout’ 3.5 million w/w ( 2007) and 4.5 million w/w of ‘circus’ (2008). christina has sold over 7 million w/w of (2006) b2b. get it straight trent! your hate is really showing.

  104. @ IRENE October 8, 2010

Xtina may have had a few good albums, but the amount of marketing and promotion on her recent album to sell 300,000 copies?
She flopped like a skydiving hippo.
And I’M an Xtina fan who hated Bionic.
I don’t like her trying to please everyone with making an electronic album. Her old music was much better, and she sang so much more beautifully.
I hope she realizes and goes back to her old music in her next album…

  105. irene brewer October 13, 2010

@ “CHRISTINA MAY HAVE HAD A FEW GOOD SELLING ALBUMS”

that’s because she’s only put out a FEW albums in her entire career (4) including ‘bionic’. ALL of her releases were GOOD except ‘bionic’. even her 10 yr gh album was a good seller. that’s why this collective ‘throw her on the flop pile” mentality makes no sense.

christina has big time haters in the media (and possibly the music industry) trying to bring her down.

  106. Bonnie Garcia February 14, 2011

I love xtina and could not wait to hear her new music and I listen to it religiously. Just because she is a strong women with her own values does not allow for others to judge her or put her down. If you don’t appreciate her talent then listen to other artist and leave her alone…

  107. pleasio April 1, 2013

Bionic was a Hit in my book. I became a fan due to this album. Yes her attitude is s***** but whose isn’t. I loved every single song and fuch what everyone else has to say. Not my self Tonight just turned my world updside down with chills and thrills! Now her new album to me, just flopped. Let there be love and Army of me were about the only songs I really liked. I was disapointed totally. I digress!!!!
