Mariah’s Christmas Album Unwrapped…

Published: Wednesday 1st Sep 2010 by Sam

While speculation mounts over Mariah Carey‘s potential pregnancy, details regarding her upcoming Christmas album have emerged.

Read on for the LP’s title, concept, release date, and more after the jump…

Via Rap-Up:

Rap-Up.com has exclusively learned that Mimi’s upcoming holiday project will be called Merry Christmas II You. The II represents the follow-up to 1994’s multi-platinum Merry Christmas album, which spawned the now-classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” The new offering is scheduled for a November 2 release and will include original material as well as covers of holiday classics.

An accompanying DVD will also be released the same day, but there are currently no details on what exactly it will contain. The packaging was shot in the spring by famed photographer David LaChapelle and features a festive setting with fake snow, tinsel, and wooden reindeers.

Mariah’s manager Chris Lighty tweeted that she is working with the Home Shopping Network (HSN) to promote the project, which is guaranteed to be the perfect stocking stuffer.

Though I’m somewhat pessimistic about any talk of Mariah and sequels (see: E=Mc2), this project appears to have all the makings of a Holiday must-have. I was initially weary of how her team would market such an album, when a) they’re simply not as popular as they once were and b) neither is Mariah. However, plugging it on the Home Shopping Network should do the trick in getting it to its target audience.

All that’s needed now is for Mariah to deliver with the live performances and not sound like she’s been gargling concrete – as she has in recent years.

That said, if her latest performances are anything to go by, we look set to be in for a very Merry Christmas courtesy of Ms. Carey-Cannon.

Yeah man im just hoping for great production and great vocals.

Home shopping network is a genious idea.

As far as sequels….EMC2 was an amazing album. I just happened to tune it in on my ipod the other day and am still baffled why touch my body and bye bye were teh albums first two singles….they just killed an album that had on FIRE SINGLES…b.ut whatever

  11. Fatima September 1, 2010

What the hell are you talking about? Christmas albums aren’t popular anymore? The year it came out, Josh Groban’s CD was selling a few hundred thousand copies every week in November and December and ended up being one of the biggest albums of the year sales wise.

  12. FLOPRIAH September 1, 2010

    FLOP

    YESSSSSSSSSSS MIMI!!!
    CANT WAIT!!!

  15. Fatima September 2, 2010

I will say this though…the 90s by and large were a much less cynical time which lent themselves well to Christmas albums. I don’t want schmaltzy arrangements, but I REALLY don’t want a Christmas CD that tries too hard to be modern. If she throws rappers on this thing or has a bunch of “s*** Christmas with my man” songs, I’mma flip OUT.

  16. ShesDone September 2, 2010

What Happened to Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel Album????

  17. S3ANE September 2, 2010

Christmas albums are just as popular as they used to be. Andrea Bocelli, Josh Groban, you name it – not to mention that Mariah Carey’s first Christmas LP outing became a classic. To say that this project didn’t have potential to begin with is a lie.

And to say that Mariah Carey isn’t still popular is wrong. Her album sales may not be what they used to be, but ‘All I want For Christmas’ has been in the iTunes Top 10 around Christmastime for years – and you must remember that Mariah received LOTS of press and buzz for ‘Memoirs’. Even though it tanked, ‘Obsessed’ was still a monster hit and even went Platinum.

You guys continue to amaze me. You are not “informing” us, you are “misinforming” the masses. I feel for the idiots who actually believe you!

You will write anything to get people to comment, you’re that desperate. When you write correct things, few people comment – when you write lies and misinform the public, you get 200 comments.

  18. FUTURESTARdelux September 2, 2010

LOL MARIAH ON SHOPPING TV? PLEASE NO THAT IS TOO BENEATH HER.

I HOPE THIS ALBUM DOES WELL FOR HER BUT I HOPE LIKE OTHERS HAVE SAID IT ISN’T LIKE ALL S*** SONGS WITH MARIAH IN A TOO TIGHT/SHORT SANTA OUTFIT WITH A BUNCH OF RAPPERS AND THE COVER LOOKING LIKE A GANGBANG PORNO OR SOMETHING LOL

HER VOICE HAS BEEN AMAZING SINCE BRAZIL THOUGH SO SHE HAS THAT IN HER FAVOUR BUT CAN SHE STOP THE SUBO JUGGERNAUGHT? O_O

  19. criss_vaughn September 2, 2010

Do we need a Titanic Part 2? Dont think so. So Mimi should leave whats classic, classic.

  20. MUSIC LOVER September 2, 2010

I’m also worried about her following up a legendary Christmas album, but I’m excited to hear it. I just hope she brings it!

  21. Robier September 2, 2010

Bwaahaaaa lmao @ gargling concrete….. cause its true

  22. Nathan September 2, 2010

she will NEVER EVER EVER EVER be able to top “all i want for christmas” – that’s a given! However, I hope she delivers something of quality. Whos she working with? I don’t follow her career much so i have no idea. I hope she enlists Walter A. again…anyone know??

  23. Subliminal September 2, 2010

    I smell a flop from fat a** has-been

  24. Bee September 2, 2010

@Nathan: You never know… Also Mariah always delivers something of quality, especially compared to other artists – that’s a given.

Anyway, she’s been working with Randy Jackson, Marc Shaiman, Jermaine Dupri, Bryan Michael C**, etc

Quote (not recent) regarding the Christmas album: “very lush, with lots of strings and no hip hop. A lot of it is said to be “live” and there’s an ochestra.”…

  25. _Maxriah_ September 2, 2010

    @FATIMA

Mariah already stated that this album will have NO HIP-HOP. lol She’s worked with an orchestra, choirs… everything! lol I’m sure this album won’t disappoint as far as quality goes.

I really can’t wait for it’s release. November 2nd seem SO far away though lol.

  26. Fatima September 2, 2010

    @_Maxriah_

Must have missed that interview! That is really good news to hear! I mean we all remember that All I Want For Christmas Remix with Bow Wow. :shudder: I want it to be mainly traditional Christmas songs and I want her to sing full throated and hearty like she did on “O Holy Night.” I love her lower register and I hope she cans the breathy coos. It’s frustrating watching someone with an undeniable gift make weird choices with their talent.

  27. Tru Voice September 2, 2010

Good for her. Hopefully it’ll be a good seler and have good Christmas music and not dumbed down lyrics (which she loves). I wonder what classics she’ll remake since her 1st Christmas album had remakes of the most popular Christmas classics. I’ll keep an eye out for it.

  28. POOP!@# September 2, 2010

  33. cash September 2, 2010

the title is very creative, i already love that–Mariah takes over christmas EVERY YEAR, this year will be no different. Her voice is on point. her cover of O holy night gives me chills every time i hear it, no one has ever covered that song as amazingly as her. she better bring it.

  40. JCGemini22 September 2, 2010

SAM – you and trent crack me up! TGJ is definitely my GO TO for the scoop! Anyhoo, as a HUGE fan of MC’s first Christmas jingle cd, I must say I am optimistic about this one as well. Christmas is her favorite time of year, as is mine, and as the music stays both merry and reminder of why we are all here in the first place (i.e. the same reason you just can’t boo someone singing a gospel track-praise the Lord!) (yet, you can say a few words of prayer for them later!) lmao I think MC is gearing up for a success with this one. I spent many days of MY childhood screaming to that Christmas album (Jesus (Oh, What A Wonderful Child) is just the BEEZ-NEEZ!) so I personally am excited. xxo

  41. G.U.S September 2, 2010

It’s great!!!!!! Good producers and David lachappelle at the photograpy yes!!!!! Will be a good album

  42. CC September 2, 2010

Isn’t November 2 a bit early to release a Christmas Album? Who listens to xmas music almost two months before the actual christmas day? Don’t americans normally wait until Thanksgiving is over before getting into the Christmas mood?

Anyway, I hope it does well

  43. Wake Up Six September 2, 2010

This is a VERY!!! Good move from the Mariah Camp!

This way if she is Pregnant she cant take some more time off after the baby is gone and hit us with a regular studio album no EARLIER than end of next year.

As much sh!t as people talk about her….Radio aint the same without that voice on it. We have become accustomed to it for the last 20 years!

LOVE THIS WOMAN for all that she does!

  44. Fatima September 2, 2010

    @CC

The first week of November is the standard week to release Christmas albums in the States. Waiting until after Thanksgiving only allows a few weeks of sales then. I remember Destiny’s Child’s came out on Halloween.

That said, I don’t start actually listening until after Thanksgiving like you said.

  45. thekiddz September 2, 2010

I jam to Mariah’s Christmas album even during the summer. Her vocals are INSANE on each and every track. Whatever music she puts out, I’ll support her all the way. LAMBS UNITE!

  46. Wake Up Six September 2, 2010

Again! this is a Brilliant move on her part!

  47. Mariah Wrong Christmas Album Title September 4, 2010

  48. MARIAH FLOPPY September 5, 2010

  49. Barf Bag` June 27, 2011

Just love this new album!!! Geez!
Pretty cool that she don’t want much for Christmas, ain’t it?

“All she wants is a Ni**er for Christmas”…. Looks like she got one,

    THANKS SANTA!!!

I dont know any white boy that would want to Bang this sloppy b**** anyhow!

Go crawl into a slum, ANY SLUM I TELL YOU!!!
and make some more ugly, blonde, nappy haired, spooks,
the world needs more, (not really, just didn’t want to sound too racist Mariah!
