Randomness: How Much Will Trey Songz’s New LP Sell First Week?

Published: Thursday 9th Sep 2010 by Sam

That Grape Juice favourite Trey Songz is set to release his fourth studio album ‘Passion, Pain & Pleasure’ in less than one week (next Tuesday / September 14th). Yet with the LP’s preceding singles ‘Bottoms Up’ and ‘Can’t Be Friends’ collectively doing not much of anything on the charts, many are scratching their heads as to what first week numbers the 25 year old will chart with.

For, if one is to believe the crooner’s BET reality show – Songz is a superstar, with the largest of fan-bases. Yet, on the other hand, interest in the record appears minimal.

With that, we here at That Grape Juice want to hear what you think. How much do you feel Trey will sell come next week. (There may very well be something in it for the reader with the most accurate predication…)

Your thoughts?

    I predict between 90k – 100k.

I would be so surprise if his LP sell over 100k copies.

  2. TC23 September 9, 2010

id say 80K maybe hit 90 at best

  3. siyaa_ September 9, 2010

    Between 60 – 74K…

  4. Christopher September 9, 2010

Please tell me how “Bottoms Up” is not doing anything when it moved into the Top 10 this week? “Can’t Be Friends” is Top 40 without even being sent to radio, yet. I’m confused and don’t understand that logic.

  6. OUPS I S*** ON YOU AGAIN September 9, 2010

  9. annie! :] September 9, 2010

first week?…. i wouldn’t be surprised if it only did like 40-50k. i haven’t seen any promotion from him and the song’s he’s released aren’t that great (bottoms up was the only okay song and it was ’cause of nicki!) i didn’t even know the album was coming out this soon. i have a feeling it’s gonna BOMB (people who are saying he’s gonna sell 100k in a WEEK are outta their minds).

i wish trey songz would go back to the “gotta make it” days… not release in album just talking about s** ’cause he THINKS thats gonna sell. i definitely won’t be buying.

  10. annie! :] September 9, 2010

…i think he’ll do 100-200k all together, but not in a week.

  11. bjksolo September 9, 2010

I hope he atleast goes gold or better yet platinum! 😀 #ciaraspeechless on itunes now!

  12. TRUTH September 9, 2010

    honestly i say 60 – 74k

  13. Jweezy September 9, 2010

  14. question Existing September 9, 2010

I predict 65 000 first week… The hype is indeed minimal!

  15. NICKY September 9, 2010

  16. NICKY September 9, 2010

    I’D SAY 80-100K

  17. jazybelle September 9, 2010

    well 70 000 …and im being nice

  18. Aryo September 9, 2010

  19. Tish September 9, 2010

I don’t think Trey is gonna do well at all. I mean look at Katy Perry who had a NUMBER ONE on Billboard Hot 100 NOT do so well in her first week with ALL the buzz that was surrounding her and the heavy promo and performances she did. To sell ONLY between 100 n 200 thousand first week, leads me to believe Mr. StealYoGirl will NOT sell well!!!!! Maybe even do less than 50K! S***, even Rick Ross had some buzz. Not many ppl know Trey has an album coming out.

  20. Tish September 9, 2010

People sayin his album is already leaked. HOW MANY PEOPLE EVEN CHECKIN 4 THAT????? Not much!!!! He is puttin out an album WAYYY too soon. Just my opinion.

  21. knicole September 9, 2010

i have always said that he is RKelly lite. I dont care

  22. Lashun September 9, 2010

I didn’t know Trey had an album coming out.

  23. ~TeAM WeeZY~ September 9, 2010

‘Ready’ debuted at #4 selling between 120 and 160 I think and that is his most successful album. No one is interested in this one, so I’m sure he will sell half of that so I’d say between 60 and 80.

  24. gfssd September 9, 2010

  25. Reishal September 9, 2010

Seriouly…. His album is sure to be in the top 10 If not top 5.
How can you say he hasn’t been promoting when he’s been touring
for almost a year, he’s made appearances and even hosted 106 to push
his tour and his album and why do you think he even had a show
allowing the world into his life. Trey is Ustreaming on a regular and has
introduced a new fan club. Unless you’ve been under a rock you know
his album is in the way and is sure to do well especially if his tour is any indication.
I wish him nothing but the best!!

  26. bjksolo September 9, 2010

:OOOO Lauryn hill has a new song!?!! #ciaraspeechless on tunes now!

  27. DaGoldenGurl September 9, 2010

  28. Alex September 9, 2010

    25-35k …Even if that

  29. eoghan September 9, 2010

    35k- 45k at most

  30. Tyler* September 9, 2010

13,000 – 20,000 at best….. Im being nice. I feel that this album is gonna be a bigger flop then Ameries last album

  31. stan September 9, 2010

  32. clicker September 9, 2010

  33. Heaven September 9, 2010

I just listen to some of the cuts. I know I’m not a fan but I wanted to be as objective as possible. Every song sounds similar, s**, s** and more s**. I don’t want to diss him too badly, i will say i.m.o. it will not garner many new fans, sorry.

No predictions, you never know he may have more fans than I think. lol

  34. I and I (yardie style) September 9, 2010

  35. Blasian September 9, 2010

    11K LMAO!

  36. all4u_ts September 9, 2010

I love the cd already plus he is having signing parties imma say 90-100K

  37. all4u_ts September 9, 2010

The cd is easy listening gonna do great numbers 95k -115k

  38. Robier September 9, 2010

Please if these 15-15 yr olds ain’t feeling it u only selling 45-80k

  39. royalkev September 9, 2010

  40. Lady September 9, 2010

I don’t see much hype around the album. But Bottoms Up is doing good its #20 on Hot 100(no surprise there it has nicki minaj on it…if it was just Trey it wouldnt have gotten that far…thats being honest when you look at facts). I predict maybe 80-100k I actually forgot he was to release an album this month…well that release day is getting close he needs to promote alot more!

  41. Obi Texas September 9, 2010

No less than 60,000. I have yet to see someone sell very well without hittin the charts hard.
Fantasia did well because of her publicity. If it were not for that, she would not have debuted at #2.
Good luck to Trey. He has a huge fan base and is expanding his brand.

  42. Lady September 9, 2010

You ain’t right for that prediction lmao.

Ya’ll and these prediction under 30k are kling me…lmao…

The goal is to grow more as an artist. I haven’t listened to the album yet but I have a feeling its nothing different. I like Can’t Be Friends better though. But didn’t he release an album this time last year? What is with these artist putting out album after album within one years time? Are they making sure they stay relevant or something? Cuz in the end its just gonna make you look tired and people are gonna be annoyed.

I’ve never thought of Trey to be all about s**. But his little dumbass stans(not all just some I’ve seen) are the worst! I really liked his song Yo Side Of The Bed and I don’t think it went anywehere for one reason…..his fans are addicted to him singing about s**. I remember I saw one comment about the video saying “so this is boring…I liked Neighbors Know My Name better” and it broke my heart to see some fans really don’t like songs with meaning. Some of his so called fans still think his first single is “Can’t Help But Wait” or “Say Ahh”…smh…good luck on setting yourself apart from the rest Trey.

  43. Alexander September 9, 2010

25k to 65k range, another gold album for Goat Songz

  44. Albert September 9, 2010

Ugh, I honestly don’t think he will sell any more than 60 to 70K… I think he rushed this album!! He shouldve waited because Katy Perry and even Fantasia are doing moderate sales, he will sell 200K overall I think, but well see 🙂

  45. DeemyDeemy September 9, 2010

U guys are wack. He’ll not do so low u haters. I’ll say somewhere between 100 – 140 k. Trey’s fanbase wont leave him hanging. Top 5 debut hopefully.

  46. Alexander September 9, 2010

DeemyDeemy please change your cotex and stop with the hair weaves! Flops flops Goat Songz and Baa to you.

    35k first week

  47. dabest September 9, 2010

130k just like his last album did first week.

  48. Tatiana September 9, 2010

At least 100k, Trey’s Angel’s will buy that if not more.!

  49. Rihsus September 9, 2010

Wow I was actually gonna say something low but I just checked and his last album did 131,000, and that was way before Say Ah was released.
He may not have anything as hot worthy to live up to Say Ah but he’s got a fan base are devout so I say anywhere between 100,000 – 130,000. Maybe 119,000. idk that number just popped in my head lol.

  50. NUNYA September 9, 2010

Kanye pushed his cd back so trey should debut at number 1. he better, he have over a million twitter followers. I dont know how much he’ll sale see but if his fans play him like dondria fans played her, he wont sell a lot of cds ,LOL
Oh well, I just want to see what the excuse will be this time if he dont debut at number 1 like the ready cd.

  51. Wake Up Six September 9, 2010

    Too Rushed!

    Last joint barely passed 500K

    And It LEAKED

So I say about 95K opening! (and thats being generous)

  52. Alexander September 9, 2010

Goat Songz bottoms up only doing well because of rapping Harry Potter witch spell raps! Nicki tricky, Flop Flop Flop for goat Songz

  53. jayden September 9, 2010

    78k -82k

  54. the thoughts of… September 9, 2010

I’d say 80-90K opening week, and a slow decline after that. New album definitely isn’t as good as Ready is.

  55. Imanni September 9, 2010

Well I just heard the album and its not horrible but its not that spectacular either. Love Faces, Cant Be friends, Blind and Already Taken are the only good songs. The rest seem like Fillers. I dont want to sound negative(cause I like Trey)But I dont think this is gonna sell well like Ready. Im looking at another gold album(100k-130k 1st week)

  56. Imanni September 9, 2010

Wait I meant to say that im looking at a album that might not even go gold. Sorry

  57. Parisian girl September 10, 2010

    I’m gonna be generous

  58. Chick Boom September 10, 2010

    I say 700,000

    Minus 699,999

  59. Jacob Hester September 10, 2010

Last year Ready (his third album) shifted 131,000 copies in its first week. That happened when its lead single “I Need a Girl” only went to #59 on the Hot 100 and #6 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Passion, Pain & Pleasure is going to sell 160k in its first week in my opinion because its lead single “Bottoms Up” has reached #20 on the Hot 100 (his third biggest hit) and #9 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. He’s going to #1 on the Billboard 200 because no one else is putting a record out next week and the only competition he would have is Katy Perry, who by her fourth week will probably be selling like 50,000 max.

Besides, PPP has been preceded by a tour which meets 3k-5k people a night, has been Ustreaming and has a reality show which has moderate ratings. PPP is going to #1 and will sell 160k in its first week. I’m sure.

  60. ChuckT September 10, 2010

lol at you saying the single not doing anything on the charts, bottoms up is top 20 on the billboard hot 100 and number 9 on the r&b charts and im sure it will rise a lot higher. Get your facts right before posting bottoms up is a big hit and can’t be friends is also on the rnb charts despite it not yet been released digitally and the video only came out yday! his album will sell 150k-200k 1st week

  61. rebirthofslick September 10, 2010

  62. rebirthofslick September 10, 2010

and thats my guess because i was born in ’89 lol

  63. hip hop police September 10, 2010

    Imma say btwn 150- 200K.

Lol at some of these numbers. With a song, any song on any position in the top 50 of billboard, that artist should not sell below 100K first week.

  64. True Blue September 10, 2010

    I predict 3 copies.

  65. Theman September 10, 2010

    150 to 200k.

  66. T-vince September 10, 2010

  67. Shiesty September 10, 2010

I’m so tired of people calling him cocky when he’s really not. He’s one of the nicest guys. And let’s stop bringing up the fact that he hasn’t went platinum because that’s not his fault. He’s done what he needs to do. I predict that he’ll have a successful first week and will land somewhere between 2-5 on the charts. He’s very talented and this album should prove that. This album is not even remotely as sexual as his last album, so everyone can stop with the “he only sings about s**” angle. You should go buy this album when it is released you’d enjoy it.

  68. Scoopz September 11, 2010

    About 72,000

  69. JAii September 12, 2010

  70. YEAAA MAN~!!! September 15, 2010

    Id say 120k – 160k!!

  71. ozzy September 16, 2010

I have no idea why this blog hates Trey songz so much. The official predictions are in and he’s heading for 220,000-230,000. How do all you haters feel now? If you don’t like him fall back. Don’t come here hating or bringing people down. Shame on Thatgrapejuice for instigating all the hate towards Trey because of one interview.

  72. hugs September 17, 2010

@ozzy…its a digusting site…its just full of haters and ppl who don’t have anything better to do but insult celebrities they don’t like…what do you expect when its run by two who are even WORSE….smh
