From The Vault: Usher – ‘My Boo (Ft. Alicia Keys)’

Usher and Alicia Keys’ ‘My Boo’ is the video being lifted From The Vault this week. The Jermaine Dupri-produced song was featured on the re-release of Usher’s massively successful ‘Confessions’ LP. In addition to spending 6 weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, ‘My Boo’ earned Usher and Keys a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.

There was undeniable chemistry between Usher and Keys on this record. Their vocals worked perfectly together over the simple production with neither outshining the other. It’s amazing to think that in 2004 they were the biggest stars in R&B music and 6 years later they have managed to maintain their position at the top. Excellent song.

    OMG I REMEMBER WHEN I BOUGHT “CONFESSIONS” MY MUM PLAYED IT SO MUCH THAT I TRIED TO THROW IT AWAY 3 TIMES BUT SHE KEPT GETTING IT BACK LOL

    P.S I WOULDN’T SAY USHER WAS EVEN R&B ANYMORE LET ALONE ON TOP…

  2. OUPS I S*** ON YOU AGAIN September 19, 2010

    I Love the version with beyonce better

  3. TheBaddestBitch September 19, 2010

    Six years later, they’re still the R&B King & Queen of our generation.

  4. number1k9 September 19, 2010

    I wouldn’t say that either of them are at the same career point that they were in, back in 2004.

    Do you remember how many albums Usher sold with Confessions, and how many number 1 singles it brought him?

    Do you remember when A.Keys could effortlessly have a single reach the Top 15 of the Hot 100, now not at all! ? ? ?

    Yeaaaaah. They’re at total different career levels now.

    I totally agree with you. The song is amazing, it’s perfect for the two of them.

    I love Alicia, and I think that right now she’s at the top of her game. She’s without a doubt the queen of R&B.

    I love Usher too, but Im not completely sure if he’s still at the top.

    They’re amazingly talented

    Woah!! Throwback 😀 I love this song

  7. michelle September 19, 2010

    This is one of my favourite songs ever! i remember i had the bootleg from limewire that kept saying “AOL Music….First listen.” for the longest time until I bought the CD lol i’m still a fan of usher and alicia keys. i wish they would make more R&B music…..i have their latest CDs and love the experimentation with synths and pop sounds, but am i the only one who thought “There Goes My Baby” and “Un-thinkable (I’m Ready)” were brilliant R&B tracks? I’d take those over “OMG” and “Put It In A Love Song” any day.

    ALICIA MAY NOT BE GETTING TOP 10 SINGLES BUT SHE IS STILL SELLING ALBUMS BY THE TRUCKLOAD, USHER…. IS NOT.

  9. ronny September 19, 2010

    THE MAIN REASON WHY ALICIA DOESNT GET TOP 10’S THIS TIME AROUND AND HER SONGS R EITHER TOP 20’S 30’S OR 40’S IS THAT SHE MAKES NON – GENERIC MUSIC AND THATS VERY DIFFICULT TO CHART HIGH THESE DAYS
    MOST OF THE TOP 10 FOR SOME TIME NOW ARE GENERIC POP,N ALICIA DOESNT DO THAT,ALICIA SELLS ALBUMS AND NOT SINGLES
    I HAVE NOTICED THAT MOST OF THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE NON GENERIC MUSIC ARE ABLE TO SELL LOTS OF ALBUMS AS OPPOSED TO THEIR GENERIC FELLOWS
    COMPARE
    KATY PERRY,KESHA,JASON DERULO,RIHANNA
    TO
    SUSAN BOYLE,ALICIA KEYS,SADE
    ONE GROUPS HAS ALBUM SALES AND THE OTHER CHART TOPPERS

  12. Miss Chick Boom September 19, 2010

    This used to be my jam. I used to always sing this song in the shower..lol

    @ OUPS I S*** ON YOU AGAIN

    I think u are talking about “love in this club” because there is no version with Beyonce.

    @Shouw

    Usher is no longer a ‘real’ artist, whatever that is. With his electro pop making self.

  13. sheeeeesh September 19, 2010

    Ummm usher is still on top where have yall benn? even dooe his not much of an r & b artist he still sells check the charts his havin one of the most sucessful years of his carre omg was a huge sucesss ! and hid pretty smart cuss if he was still doin r & b he would have been irrelivent cuss no one does that anymore and what other artist u noe that has been in the industry for like 17 yrs and still get number ones and is only 31? Mind u he has 9 number one hots and 13 top 40 and he was the 5th artist of all time to have a hit in thress decade in a row (1990.2000s.2010s) do your reserrch cuss ushh still doin his thing .

  14. sickwitit September 19, 2010

    @TIFF

    that is NOT beyonce…and that version sucks lol

  15. Tina Knowles September 19, 2010

    @Tiff

    isn’t that Solange.

  16. Tiff September 19, 2010

    @Tina Knowles.

    I don’t know. I was always told that it was beyonce. If it’s solange I need to see some proof.

  17. ~TeAM WeeZY~ September 19, 2010

    I always thought this song was overrated! I remember EVERYONE was on this song my freshman year in college, but I was like WTF? This song is NOT all of that. It just seems to be lacking something, IMO.

    And ya’ll just because Usher did two electro-pop songs this era (only one was actually on his actual album and the other on his re-release), doesn’t make him solely pop because Raymond Vs. Raymond was TRUE R&B. It was an amazing R&B album!

  18. wow!! September 19, 2010

    I’ve heard about this song so much lately

  19. RATED X September 19, 2010

    @ronny
    you aint never lie boo..cosign 100…

    alot people think because you can sell singles, have the top singles than everybody else means ur a** is the s***…hel nawl

    u can have 100 top and 100 number 1 singles, if ur album dont sell and takes forever to sell b****, u aint s***…

    like u said, look at sade how number 1 singles did her last album had, and look how that album shitted on all the chicken heads with 7, 8, 3, 5 number 1s..
    my boo is one of the best R&B duets out there, that song is a classic, it had and still has meaning..

  20. True Blue September 19, 2010

    I was 8th grade with that jam! Of course, all the girls in my class were in love with Usher, and they could NOT stop singing this song. But damn, I can’t believe it was six years ago, feels just like yesterday…

  21. dboy September 19, 2010

    am fascinated with the singles vs album sales debates, have yall ever examined album sales of mary j blige , she defo sells albums yet she has only 1 no 1 on bb hot100, the last hit i rmbr her having is be without you, “i am” peaked at 55 yet the album sold over 300k first week, that has to be a feat compared to bionic (no diss) now that’s a solid fanbase in action!

  22. Tiff September 19, 2010

    This song came out when I was in the 10th grade.
    I was sick of this song and “Lovers and Friends” UGH!!

  23. daniel September 19, 2010

    @ furterstadrelux alicia isn’t selling ablum by the truck load. her latest album only sold 1.4 million copies in the states. 4 million copies worldwide. the 1.4 million copies is very low for alicia. she needs to get back to soul music.

  24. Soulful Roses September 20, 2010

    Classic 🙂

  25. Altered_Reality September 20, 2010

    I had this song on refuckinpeat on my iPod back in college, it was the business, and still is a classic. Good vault pick Trent! So sad that Usher has sold out and gone pop, just to chase that almighty dollar. Smdh
