New Song: Ne-Yo – ‘Know Your Name’

Published: Friday 15th Oct 2010 by Trent

Here is a new song from Ne-Yo. ‘Know Your Name’ is reportedly from his ‘Libra Scale’ recording sessions. Give it a listen below via ‘Your Music My World’:

This track is a definite winner. The simple finger-snapping production is a laced with the drifting melodies, creating a song that would work well as an standout album cut. However, I don’t see this having any major single appeal. Quite a good song though (annoying imitation Michael Jackson inflections aside).

WHY DO YOU KEEP LEAKING SONGS!!!!????!!!!!!! By the time November comes his whole album will be leaked. I’m not listening to anymore songs that he doesn’t release as a single himself. I hate this new trend that happens to artists. I like being surprised and you people keep f****** it up!!! STOP LEAKING SONGS!!!!!

LMAO @ Robier… I love Ne-Yo’s “PENMANSHIP” when it comes to song writing, but her songs are lack-luster to me… I’m never excitied anymore… I loved “Closer”, but everything since has fell on deaf ears!!! #nowplaying “Mirror” & “Say It” –> Those are her saving grace!!!

This is very beautiful, R&B, and light. It has such a nice mellow vibe to it. I don’t think the beat screams Michael Jackson, more like Stevie Wonder, but the vocals are MJ inspired.

I think Neyo could give the MJ swagger a rest as well, but the track isn’t that bad, just not single wise. I could see this somewhere like track 4,5,or 6 on the album, you know, one of those tracks that kind of mellows out the first couple of uptempos, then transitioning into the slow jams.

The song Know Your Name is taken from the Stylistics “You Can’t Get to Heaven” (If You Break My Heart). For those of us old enough to know who they are, it was a great song then and the update is pretty decent. It will go over pretty well with the older crowd. I can hear some MJ but ain’t everyone stole something from the past. MJ got his style from James Brown and Jackie Wilson. I have read and heard so much hate on Ne-Yo and of today’s music artists, he is one of the very good ones. This CD/album is a bit more mature in sound than his others. The youngstas like to go boom boom boom all day and night but sometimes U got to chill. Thanks Ne-Yo for trying to bring back smooth and class to the game.

This is a good “chill lounge” record… wind down single, maybe and AC/Rhythmic record with late night spins for the slow jams session… for dj’s, good close the night record. I like it for the most part, but I would give it a few spins to see how it worked out. It’s one of those s*** records, I think people reading too much into it…
