Singer/songwriter Kandi premiered the video for her brand new single ‘Leave U’ today. The song is the first release to be lifted from the Real Housewives of Atlanta star’s as yet untitled sophomore album.

Though the video was standard-fare, it does a commendable job of capturing the semantics of the song. The song itself being the real winner in this equation. For, not in some time has there been a bonafide R&B single with as much lyrical dexterity and rawness as exhibited by ‘Leave U’ (unsurprising given Kandi’s well-documented writing skills/ see: TLC, Xscape).
One can only hope the video gives the song a boost on radio, where it is performing moderately well as at writing.

Love the texture of her voice.. that didn’t really come out in Xscape although she had leads on most songs and her voice was prominent in most background vocals.
I think she needs to make sure she has some songs where she sings out, but uses a more controlled vocal, i.e. “Don’t Think I’m Not” (which was a hit I might add). I really want her to get her props!!
oh and her low register is bomb.. as well as her whistle register!!

Surprisingly, this is really cute for her! The song is classic type R&B which we RARELY hear from artists these days, and the video fit the vibe.
Kandi is so underrated. This isn’t 1 of her best, but I love the hook. I’m sure it’ll grow on me! I’m sure she’ll have something for everyone to look forward to on the upcoming album.

Her album is titled ‘Kandi Koated’. It got announced a few weeks ago….
The lyrics are ok, and the melody is decent…but that cheap track sounds generic, and needs to be completely overhauled. Sounds like a demo.
I always felt that Kandi was better as a back up singer/songwriter. She can carry a tune, but I couldn’t see myself buying an album where I would have to listen to her vocals front and center throughout.
