Despite the dismal sales of her sophomore effort ‘No Gravity’, Shontelle is proving quite the trooper, releasing the video for new single ‘Perfect Nightmare’.
Check out the clip for the Darkchild produced cut after the jump…
While I can appreciate the glossy visuals, that’s pretty much where the ‘good’ starts and stops. ‘Nightmare’ hands-down serves as the best cut the Bajan beauty has released to date, hence its accompanying video should have reflected this – which it didn’t. Not by a long shot. As an up-tempo, it was rather confusing to see the 25 year old simply walking up and down, when the nature of the song called for more movement (at least one Dutty-Whine, Naomi Campbell Walk or something, as opposed to the faux-emotional faces and poses).
If trying to separate herself from the masses is what Shontelle is shooting for, she’ll have to come much harder than this. Much.

Ummmmmmm NO!
You said it all,it’s cute but … :/
I didn’t even look at the video….just the title of the song “Perfect Nightmare” turned me offf. I just can’t get into this chick. How you gon’ do a spin off title Beyawnce song??? Girl Bye!
well……………..um…..idk what to say ….. love the song ….everything else can go …..
The next rising icon, the nxt album will pop larger numbers.I stan for tha bajan b******.
Anyone else thinks she looks like a Black version of young Madonna…her resemblance is striking. Good video. She just might hit it out the ballpark this time.
Ummm. . . . . MO!
Ummmmm. . . . . . . NO!
Aaah man, she needs to change her image, she’s just not that memorable… Perfect nightmare is just mediocre, she needs a track that will help her sell records…and I’m sorry that song won’t….by the way I’m the newest fan of the bajan 2nd princess
@TRIZZY
Yup I totally see younger black Madonna in her face and with that ponytail. Let’s hope she has as much success like Madonna too!
The video aint that bad people…..the song is HOT still!
its a good song…reminds me of michelle williams hello heart break…….why is sam complaining she aint dancing……why does it alwyas have to be about being chroreography……….you dont have to dance in a music video to make it hot…….shes a singer…..u dont have to be able to dance to do what u love doing shallow fool
She shouldn’t have released her album just off impossible alone. While it’s an amazing track she needed more.
She’s a great artist but I think she needs more and I do like the track 🙂
she’s done for…
I love this , So does My boyfriend .he is a ncie and black man .i met him via
— Bla c kw h it eCupid. C” 0- M — a nice place for seeking interr acial love.which gives you a chance to make your life better and open opportunities for you to meet the attractive sin gles and treat you like a king or Queen. Maybe you wanna check it out or tell your friends..sdlkjuoiu
that was all oer the place, love the song, but she needs to at least learn how to dance!! for her next single, “Take Ova” she needs to step up her game! or she will quickly be forgotten. NEXT Single!!!
@teairra I totally agree, but shontelle can never quicky forgotten cause in No time. She gonna be back in the studio.Even Rogers aint finna have this bajan queen rest on her music career.
I actually like Shontelle , and the song and Video is hot . Im sure she will get better with time. her second album is a lot better then her first album . i only like three songs off her first . She just has to find what is right for her. instead of trying to find what works for the masses. she needs to create her own Niche . especially if she wants it to sell here in the states.
I was so waiting for her to jump in and work out that dance routine….
Shontelle u can do it!
I still hope this song becomes an even bigger smash for her (topping “Impossible” and it’s #13 peak Hot 100!)
I like this video. She may not be dancing, but she makes up for it with a fast moving visual. I have a feeling that Shontelle’s career will turn out EXACTLY like Trey Songz’s:
TREY SONGZ:
Album #1: I Gotta Make It – July 2005
Sells few records with two singles – neither reaches Top 40.
Album #2: Trey Day – October 2007
Sells a little bit better. Original lead single totally flops but second attempt lead single hits Top 20. Subsequent singles flop.
Album #3: Ready – August 2009
Sells badly at first but sales pick up quickly. Mild hits out of first three singles but a hit single with single #4. Then becomes a star.
Album #4: Passion, Pain & Pleasure – September 2010
Sells really well first week, spawns huge single and becomes a success, overall.
SHONTELLE:
Album #1: Shontelligence – November 2008
Sells horribly with one moderately successful single but subsequent singles flop.
Album #2: No Gravity – September 2010
Sells horribly. Original lead single flops (Licky “Under the Covers”) but first “official” single, “Impossible”, becomes a Top 20 hit but subsequent flops (that’s likely to happen…)
Album #3: TBA – Likely 2011/2012
Will probably sell badly but blow up with fourth album a huge hit.
I see that ^^ happening. Shontelle may not be big now but she just has to keep trying and she will be. I mean she’s already recording her next album, so…
#44 on pop charts, pretty soon her next hot 100 debut.
i think Shontelle should do R&B it fits her voice better and ppl are gonna continue to compare her with Rihanna because they from the same place. Don`t do the generic pop thing and she`s be just fine.
@RIRILOUD
I like your comparisons…
But Trey was lucky his label stuck with him. He was putting out stuff that wasn’t overly big even in the R&B world. Just semi big/decent on those charts with his first 2 albums. He is really lucky IMO they gave him ‘Ready’ and to me if that album didn’t bring any success, and especially some crossover success, it would have been a wrap fro his career, on that label at least!
maybe it was cutting his hair, and becoming more grown with the more sexual influenced music, being his last chance, and eventually helped him into R&B success, with some crossover success! Hmmmm interesting.
I hope the best for Shontelle, but I don’t see her label keeping her if she can’t hit 300K or more with this album in the long run!
I feel like this is the best looking music video I’ve seen in awhile.
This video reminds me a lot of Keri Hilson’s Energy, with the boxing scene. It’s not just because there’s a boxing scene, but the grayish/blue tint and angles. This song is well produced, but she’s too much like Rihanna! There’s people who say “Why do people compare her to Rihanna, they’re nothing alike” when they really are.
Not only are they from the same country, they have similar bone structure and eye shape, similar sound, and similar vocals. She’s much like Rihanna, back in her A Girl Like Me and Good Girl Gone Bad era. Shontelle’s problem is that she doesn’t stand out. You have Gaga, Kesha, Katy Perry, and Rihanna doing the dance and electro-pop thing with crazy and raunchy clothing and here is Shontelle who tried that sexually explicit image with “Licky” and then created a generic pop ballad…we’ve seen this before and continue to see it. She should have finished COLLEGE instead of giving that up for a career. If she hasn’t made it by now, with much better produced singles and better management, than she’s doomed.

I like the song and video!
She’s a cool girl (saw your interview with her), down to earth.
Wish her all the success she deserves.
