Bow Wow To Rappers: “Stop Doing Stupid Sh*t”

Published: Thursday 4th Nov 2010 by Sam

Our friends over at Real Talk NY recently caught up with Cash Money’s latest signee Bow Wow. When quizzed on his relationship with the centre-piece of the label, Lil’ Wayne, the rapper revealed that he recently visited him in prison, relaying Wayne’s words of advice to him, and adding his own Two Cents on Hip-Hop’s problem with crime.

Check out his comments & my TWO PENCE after the jump…

Bow Wow may be one of the most unjustifiably cocky rappers on the scene, yet it’s important to give kudos where it’s due – the man is talking sense here.

However, his ‘stay away from crime’ mantra – while positive – seems somewhat far fetched. After all, a vast majority of the rappers populating the charts have literally been plucked from the streets and handed deals on a platter;  unfortunately in one too many cases going on to prove the  age old adage ‘you can take a man out of the streets, but can’t take the street out of the man’ true.

Important to stress, though, is that it’s not every Hip-Hop male who falls by wayside. Indeed, the storied careers of the likes of Jay-Z and 50 Cent highlight how the street antics can be left behind to build vast empires. However for every 50 and Jay, there’s a Gucci Mane, a Wacka Flocka, a T.I, a Lil’ Wayne. The can’t stay, won’t stay out of jail crew.

Hence if real change is to come about, it’ll require many a Hip-Hop act to realise the opportunity and platform given to them (in a society which remains grossly uneven). Also imperative is for labels execs to not be so fast to throw out contracts to any and everyone (while rarely backing ‘concious’, and socially-reflective rap). For, if not, we’ll continue to see labels trying to promote albums when the artist is in the slammer (affecting their own profit margins), and negative stereotypes about a whole race reinforced by the actions of select ‘role models’. Sigh…

What ever you think about Bow, what hes saying is TRUTH why waste your life?

  13. Soulful Roses November 4, 2010

Bow was speaking the truth. Period.

You know, its really pathetic that in 2010 racism still exist. It doesnt matter what color our skin is because when push comes to shove, we are all the same.

I want you all to do something for me. Buy a white egg, and then buy a brown egg. When you get home I want you to observe them from the outside. Then afterwards, I want you to crack both of them open in a sperate bowl, and tell me what difference you see in the yolk of those eggs.

    KD,

Just playing head games, but in the end, we will be running things. I am black, and proud say it loud.

    @KD

You Love Blacks? Umm were called Human Beings you racist b****. Were made up of all colors and cultures, go take a rainbow and stick it up your flat crusty white ass.
& BOW WOW needs to address his DL relationship with Omarion, I’m getting restless.

  16. Real Tea November 4, 2010

    @ KD

you talk about Obama being an embarrassment & gold toothed rappers? Lol. Girl, your people are no better, Racist Republicans, with Red Necks and Fat Stomachs, they can barely see their own d****, no wonder you love black people, you want a black d***. Well I’ll tell you this , we have our own culture and it’s dynamic & beautiful, there’s good & bad in every race, because we are all the same in the end. Why are you on TGJ anyway, you must really be desperate to get attention from black people, go to Perez Hilton or somewhere that fits the likes of a Racist S**** like you. ‘ & I’m through’

  17. Dwayne November 4, 2010

Shad is on point right there, he should consider running for office somewhere for real.

  18. A.M. November 4, 2010

Wow, Bow Wow couldn’t have said that minus with all the cursing??? He may be making a good point but c’mon… the inarticulateness of his response does just as bad for the image of not only rappers but black men just the same if they went out here committed a crime.

  19. collegegirl November 4, 2010

    @ A.M

Bow shouldn’t have to change his speech or cadence to get a message across. He’s speaking ebonics to the dudes who speak ebonics-he’s on their level talking straight to them and I see nothing wrong with that. You have to be relateable to get your point taken.

Bow is speaking the truth and hopefully (black) men will take note. Perhaps T.I for example.

Don’t mind @KD, he’s somehow right, you see the white man brought you black ppl from Africa….. then he slaved (used) you in harsh extensive plantations…… after that he dropped you like a hot potato when slavery was abolished by Abraham Lincoln your first president……not only that, he rid of you your culture and African names and gave you his Irish, Scottish and English names (language). Hahahaha

  23. CRBB November 5, 2010

@CAWER23… STFU since you know so much about black history, you’ll be able to look past your own bias views. YES us ‘blacks’ were brought from our homes and given ‘your’ names but look what were are now….. presidents, politicians, judges, lecturers, doctors, students! we came and MADE IT faster and better than any other race has ever done before! even with racist wanna be’s like YOU putting us down!… #SITDOWN
