The legendary Whitney Houston brought the house at BET’s Celebration of Gospel extravaganza this past weekend. Introduced as a surprise guest during friend Kim Burrell‘s performance, the ladies performed a duet version of Houston’s inspirational ballad ‘I Look To You’. Reports from those in attendance attest to Whitney’s voice being “the best she has genuinely sounded in years”.

i was there sitting at the back. kim walked out and sang ‘as i lay me down’ and the crowd were thinking if whitney was in the audience then after singing the first verse the stage opened up and the Voice appeared and you cannot imagine how exciting it was. everyone’s on their feet and when whitney belted out iiii will lliffftt my heaaadd.. wooow she sounds better than she sounded in years!!! that’s for sure. and she looks great in these pictures but she looks even better in real person.

@TR: You need to fall back. Whitney has been singing gospel before Kim was singing. Gospel is whitney’s first love and where she shines. Kim flew out to be with Whitney and to minister to her spirit in Austria when she was on tour and whitney invited her to sing.
Whitney reciprocated as promised and flew out to Kim’s church in Houston, TX a few months ago and sang. You just never heard about it because Whitney be making those stealth moves and never annouces what she does.

on tour. She always hit the ball out the park with her gospel songs even when her voice wa snot up to stuff. Whitney’s voice today is 10x more powerful than Kim’s and she can and does do runs as well. What Whitney has problem with is her range and transitions. Her power is even more powerful than before, dont sleep.
But whitney and Kim have genuine respect for each other and i doubt their performance will be a scream fest trying to see who will out do each other. Tweets were about how great whitney sounded not that kim bested her.

I was in attendance Saturday night a the COG, and what a magical night it was. I like to say that Ms Houston’s voice was in very good condition that night. Her falsetto and runs were just ridiculous. I never thought I hear Whitney sound like that again and that’s for sure. She totally vocally trumped her recording of this song.
You guys will see it when it airs.
I also like to add, I don’t think I remember seeing anyone recording anything, people were literally shocked at what they were hearing. A young lady that was three people down from me said she never felt so anointed by a voice like that before. I could hear other people yelling out “twow her voice sounds good”. You just had to be there to see it. When that stage opened up and Whitney appeared, people’s reaction was as if Jesus walked on the stage, it was pure pandemonium. I have attended many concers and gospel fests in my days, and I had never seen a crowd of people get so excited over another artists other than a MJ concert I attended back in the early 90s.
Whitney doesn’t sing. She “talk-sings, and let the audience do most of the singing for her.
