Pop megastar Janet Jackson delighted fans when she announced her Number Ones – World Tour last month. Now, the 44 year old looks set to heighten excitement even more, after officially announcing the trek’s first show and ticket information.
Let’s just say, Ms. Jackson will be hitting the stage sooner than you may think. Official press release after the jump…
The fans have chosen the first city to be announced for Janet Jackson’s largest ever world tour celebrating for the first time the Icon’s 35 number one hits in 35 global cities. An overwhelming amount of fans submitted suggestions to http://www.janetjackson.com to select the first announced site of her new tour. The winning city is Hong Kong.
This tour will differ from her previous concert schedules in that she will perform music exclusively from her chart topping CD NUMBER ONES. There will also be a focus on venues that will allow Janet to be up close and personal in a much more intimate setting.
The Hong Kong performance will take place at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre on February 14th. Tickets will go on sale on 10 am next Tuesday 14th December.
Janet has expressed her excitement for her return to perform in the city and the fans desire to have her there by saying
“The fans really reached out and voted for Hong Kong to be the Valentine’s Day city of our Number Ones tour. I am thrilled to receive your votes and I will be performing in Hong Kong Feb 14, 2011!”
Janet has also selected the first fan winner of the contest in voting for the cities. The winner will be announced on www.JanetJackson.com and they will receive an autographed copy of NUMBER ONES and an autographed copy of her upcoming book “True You” (on stands February 8th). In each of the 35 cities Janet will dedicate one of her number one songs to the city and she will also recognize 20 young people whose lives and work have enriched their communities in a major way. You already know That Grape Juice will be in the house on the tour’s inevitable London date. It’s been been too long. Nonetheless, it’s great to see Janet finally catering to her International audience again. For the non-US market was strangely neglected by the numerous labels she’s been signed to over the last decade – despite her commercial deflation in the States. Here’s hoping this tour returns her to prominence in all territories, thereafter opening the doors for new material, new projects, and new successes. After all, as Madonna‘s continued success has shown, age need not be a hindrance.

Janet has sold 90 million albums WW (if that). If you factor in her singles, videos, merchandise etc, than that puts her over the 100mill mark.
Madonna, Whitney, Mariah, and Celine, are the only other female artists who has actually sold over 100mill albums, not including singles.

Of all her contemporaries (Mariah, Whitey, Madonna, Celine) Janet has sold the LEAST, but her debut album came out before all of theirs. Even acts like Eminem, Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears who came out almost 2 decades after her have bested her in WW sales.
