@Nichole & Jair: I think Timmi used an unfortunate phrase to describe the ending, but in reality, you can really hear how short of breath she grew toward the end, and that forced her to make abrupt changes in pitch that were–let’s call it “inconsistent.” Overall, it was a very good performance from her, especially with her being pregnant, but if you take a step back and evaluate it, there were passages where she had some trouble. But that’s understandable and fair to say, right?

There is really NO POINT in trying to explain to these dellusional idiots where I was coming from. It is my personal opinion that Mariah was struggling towards the end and as this is the comment section, I have the right to be honest and post my honest COMMENT on the performance without you jumping down my throat and calling me a hater. And also, I fail to see how I was “focusing on what was wrong with the performance.” I said that I loved Mariah, I said that I loved MOST of the performance, I said that the END was a mess. That was my opinion and you do not have the right nor the power to try and tell me otherwise or critisise/label me for having/sharing it.
If you feel the performance is amazing then a random comment on the internet should not be a “joy kill” for you. She can sing, but she ain’t never been all that (IMO). She is not a natural belter and her voice has always been really airy. Yes she does have wide range, but that doesn’t mean anything. I went to her The Adventures of Mimi concert back in 06 and all though she sounded great it was boring. She doesn’t work the stage like her diva counterparts. I mean she doesn’t have to know how to dance, but she could at least do some moving. Anita Baker, Whitney Houston(Pre-Crack), and Miki Howard in my opinion are all better vocalist than Mariah and they all have more power and soul.

Lol Miki Howard get the hell out of here. Mariah has power, but she is melodic at the sametime. She is perhaps the most versatile female vocalist or one of them, She can do so much more than all of the other artists. What she did at the end of the performance was called improvising, and even when she did she did that consistently well. I have always loved Miki Howard’s voice for some reason and most people give me that reaction when I say I think she is better than Mariah Carey.

The superstar officially called the DVD her “directorial debut”, with official press releases solely naming her as producer, editor and director. She told Extra that it took her nine months to edit, and then told Nightline’s Cynthia McFadden that the only help she had was somebody who knew how to use Final Cut Pro (though she claimed she could still do the Final Cut Pro by herself).
Beyonce may have been busy telling the world about her incredible skills as a director, but as it turns out she wasn’t the only one directing the DVD — her choreographer and creative director Frank Gatson, as well as Ed Burke, also had a hand in creating it.
“First of all, I must say that I have been so thankful for the success of the ‘I Am…World Tour’ DVD,” Gatson told That Grape Juice in a recent interview. “To co-direct that body of work, along with Beyonce and Ed Burke…”
So, how much did Beyonce actually even do herself?
This isn’t the first time that Beyonce has been caught taking sole credit for other people’s work. She’s often been busted contributing one letter or word to a song, with no changes to the production or arrangement, in order to gain a writing credit, only to then claim she wrote it entirely herself – One hilarious instance saw her Dreamgirls song “Listen” being disqualified from the Academy Awards when the awards’ executive committee found there were too many co-writers on the track, and that Beyonce had contributed the least amount to the song out of everyone.
But I digress – The “I Am… World Tour” holds another example of Beyonce’s deceitful ways. You see, one key feature of the DVD is that it not only follows Beyonce on tour, but also follows her as she treks around the globe, learning about different cultures and exploring exotic locales. One instance featured the singer making her way through a pyramid in Egypt, and then spontaneously bursting into a rendition of her song “Ave Maria”. It’s an experience that touched the singer deeply — or so she’d like us to believe.
“This time I can appreciate how incredible this is and the history, and I try to live in the moment,” she told Nightline when speaking of her Egyptian escapades.
“I felt like it was important to go and see the pyramids,” she admitted. “It was absolutely spiritual [and] unbelievable and it just shows human ability and power. I felt like ‘I’m not worthy, I shouldn’t be in this pyramid, this is amazing,’ and it was really beautiful because I was able to go to the top and sing.”
Too bad it was all a publicity stunt.
Back in November of 2009 when Beyonce was actually in Egypt, it was arranged that the country’s leading Egyptologist Zahi Hawass would show her around. Here’s what he had to say to a local newspaper when questioned about his experience with the superstar.
“I showed her the Sphinx and I gave her a book on King Tutankhamun,” Hawass said. “She’s a stupid person and she doesn’t understand a thing and she doesn’t want to understand. She’s coming here to take pictures and that’s it.”
Now, over one year later, Hawass’ comments about Beyonce just wanting to “take pictures” make a lot more sense with the recent release of her tour DVD and television special. It’s too bad that Beyonce only seems to enjoy learning about different cultures when she can use it to help sell her next album or concert special.
This isn’t the first time Beyonce has been caught lying before, with Beyonce being caught lying about writing songs like “Ego”, and “Irreplaceable” .

NOW MARIAH IS OLDER AND BEYONCE VOCALS ARE PURE AND YOUNG. DO YOU SEE MY POINT….YOU CANT COMPARE THE TWO. THE ONLY THING YOU CAN SAY IS THAT BEYONCE IS THE NEW HOT B****, BUT MARIAH IS LEGEND. LEGENDS DONT HAVE TO SELL, AND COMPETE. THEY ALREADY HAVE DONE THAT.
BEYONCE IS AMAZING ON STAGE AND VOCALLY, BUT YOU ALL SEEM TO FORGET (OR JUST SO YOUNG THAT YOU DONT REMEMBER) MARIAH USED TO BE THE SAME AND NO ONE BUT WHITNEY COULD SIT HER DOWN. MY POINT IS PEOPLE, THE INDUSTRY HAS MULTIPLE TALENTED ARTIST. WE SHOULD LOVE THE FACT THAT THEY ARE HERE MAKING MUSIC FOR US AND ENJOY IT.
I completely agree with @Jamal . Everything he said is true, except in my opinion that Mariah can still sing better than anyone (Beyonce, Christina etc.) else despite being in her 40s.
There is just something about her voice. I don’t know whether is her tone or timbre, but everything she sings I LOVE it immidiately.

Very good performance, actually had she sung with Patricia here (with the choir) they would’ve tore the roof of. I prefered the CBS special performanmce more because the transition during the middle of the song where she scales high is clearer and stronger. However, i think this arranagement with the backing choir would sound better live.
BTW – what was Maxwell Annie and the two artist standing on stage for if they weren’t singing? Seems awkward for them.

She did OK. Would’nt say I was moved But she held her own respectively. Trent, Sometimes you reach too much With Mimi. She did some High Notes that ere good but I din’t wanna run around my house saying “thank you Lord.” Was she whispering at the end and throughout? I HATE when she does that. To set things into perspective, Mariah Carey may well probably be the best singer since Aretha Franklin.
However, it is widely argued, by professional music knowers, that Whitney Houston is genuinely her equal.
Everyone else is secondary and for me, irrelevant.
These two ladies will forever be THE VOICE in the history of music.
While Carey does not have the other’s power,falsetto ,
Houston lacks the other’s musicianship,range and the sheer ability to warble.
Equals and forever the best singers of all time or tied in at the 2nd place atleast.
