Maxwell Hits A High Note In Washington

Published: Monday 20th Dec 2010 by Trent

Mariah Carey wasn’t the only singer scaling through the octaves during last week’s ‘Christmas in Washington’. Maxwell also performed during the event, delivering stunning renditions of ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’ and ‘Silent Night’. Check out his showing below:

Is there anything that Maxwell can’t sing? He is one of the few male vocalists who understands the importance of developing all the parts of their vocal ranges, enabling them to be versatile enough to adapt to almost any arrangement. Incredible.

Yessssssssssss!!!!!!!! That’s my n****! Mariah and Max made me VERY happy that night.

  2. Kahari December 20, 2010

Maxwell is more a crooner to me. His vocal ability can span from his girly falsetto to a earthy tenor. I can’t imagine him singing a club joint or even a mid-tempo song. That is all.

  3. _MAXRIAH_ December 20, 2010

Maxwell does plenty of mid-tempo songs however, he uses very little computerized instruments in his music. He prefers Live instruments.

If you want crooning… watch Columbus Short in “Cadillac Records”. That is all.

One of the greatest male singers we have.

Maxwell makes wannabe fools like Justin Timberfake, and Robin Thicke look like ants.

Speaking of Maxwell, I am currently bumpin his jam “Sumthin Sumthin” from the Love Jones soundtrack. Great song.

Max is like Marvin Gaye, R. Kelly and Keith Sweat. He makes that great baby make music. Gotta love it.

  5. Nichole December 20, 2010

    *baby making music.

  6. _MAXRIAH_ December 20, 2010

LOL Pure comedy. Beyonce kills me with her over-usage of the Reverb technique which of course enables her to sound more dynamic.

  7. ~aMaZiNG.Lee~ December 20, 2010

Maxwell>>> all them other male artists!

And Maxwell may not can do club bangers but he can very well do mid-tempo records. Songs like Bad Habit; Cold; Sumthin, Sumthin; and other mid-tempo songs are genius! So please!

  8. rob December 20, 2010

hated it , his falsetto was weak

Being able to do a “club joint” does not really indicate musical or vocal versatility. I mean, how many talentless artists (who shall remain nameless so as not to kick off a stan war, but you know who I’m talking about) do club bangers like it’s their bread and butter but still can’t sing for s***?

Oh, and great performance, btw. His voice is pleasant to my ears.

  10. TIMMI December 20, 2010

In all honesty, I don’t feel this performance was great. It was too much falsetto. I’m sure he can sing, but I started to become bored and needed some sort of climax.

“Have Yourself..” was falsetto all the way through and was boring. The end of “Silent Night” was better, that’s the type of climax I’m talking about. I needed MUCH more of it though.

He is, however, a stronger singer than a lot of the popular male R&B singers out now. I need to see R. Kelly sanging some of these Christmas songs. He will set the standard. His recent performances have been great.

  11. December 20, 2010

I agree with Rob…the falsetto was a bit weak, but his rendition is 5000% better than was Usher, Trey Songz, The-Dream, Lloyd, John Legend, Jeremih and Omarion can do combined.

  12. Nichole December 20, 2010

@ Amazing Lee. Maxwell can saaaang, but he doesn’t top R. Kelly and that’s for damn sure. LOL.

  13. the kiddz December 20, 2010

Maxwell is definitely a “Divo”, damn that man can sang.

  14. the kiddz December 20, 2010

I don’t approve of her using reverb, because she doesn’t need it. But, she uses it for arrangement purposes, not to sound more dynamic because reverb cannot mimic true vocal resonance.

R.Kelly is probably the only other male artist that can mess with Maxwell. Joe and Tyrese are also very underrated male vocalists.

Maxwell is THE man, though! Love him. <3

    @Amazing Lee

    Yes Ma’am. He’s gorgeous, IMO.

  21. ~aMaZiNG.Lee~ December 20, 2010

^^^^Hmmmmm-mmmmmm, yes he is. His eyes alone make me melt!

  22. the kiddz December 20, 2010

^^^Girl, who you telling? Lol. I see you have Amy Lee (love her) as your gravatar. Is that where your name comes into play?

  23. ~aMaZiNG.Lee~ December 20, 2010

^^^^LOL! No, my first name begins with Le- and my friends call me Lee or Lee Lee sometimes. But yeah, I love me some Amy! Her voice gives me chills, it’s so mysterious and dark, but inducing at the same time.

  24. the kiddz December 20, 2010

^^^Lol. I guess I was just reading too much into it.

  25. Nichole December 20, 2010

@ Amazing Lee. I was messing with Tyrese’ brother for a minute, and it was clear who has the better talent between the two.

I definitely agree that Joe, and Tyrese are underrated vocalist. According to Tryrese’ brother, he doesn’t even have a record label at this point.

What do you think of Ginuwine? I got on Gin after hearing Pony years ago, and he definitely has some kick ass songs in his catalog.

Amy Lee is a great artist. It would be nice to get a solo album from her. I know she thought about working on one, but didn’t follow through.

  26. ~aMaZiNG.Lee~ December 20, 2010

    @The Kiddz

LOL, it’s cool. How did you come up with your name?

I REALLY dislike Ginuwine’s voice, but I do like alot of his music; his music back in the day, in particular. But Tyrese should definitely get back to the music because he’s done enough acting to hold him off for a few years.

And it’ll be cool if Amy did a solo album, but the fact that she was the only singer in the band kinda makes it seem like she was doing her own album anyway, LOL! I’m just anxious to hear some new music from her, even with the band.

  27. True Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ Blue December 20, 2010

    @ Amazing.Lee and The Kiddz:

Weird how our music tastes coincide! I love Amy as well, I damn near stanned for Evanescence back in the day! I even went through my own little goth phase, minus the fashion though, lol!

  28. the kiddz December 20, 2010

    @Amazing. Lee

A lyric from Get Me Bodied: “Snap for the kids, snap for them suckas three times” LMAO! I just changed up how it was spelled.
Yea, I’m not a big fan of Ginuwine, but I do love “So Anxious”.

S*** just stfu already with that Beyonce crap! Beyonce isn’t the queen of anything! Delusional ass just sit the f*** down! She’s a good singer, but stop puttin her on a f***** pedastal! She isn’t the best that ever did it that would be negative at times she’s sounds like she’s yelling so stop. Anyway, I heard better from other artists (Maxwell would be one of them) than Beyonce… just saying.

  32. coockie December 20, 2010

Kinda dissapointed with Maxwell. I find Eric Bennet is better.

  33. BENJAMIN December 20, 2010

I’m kinda mad he didn’t put out that 2nd installment of black SUMMERSnight this year like he was supposed to.

  34. Breezythebest December 20, 2010

Maxwell take them to CHURCH, that man can sing.

  35. John December 20, 2010

Amazing!!! Wow performances of that night were pure joy. Mariah and Maxwell were fabulous. I´m with the person who said the reverb on Beyonce´s performances are annoying as hell. I don´t know why she uses it but it sounds like crap

  36. TJ December 21, 2010

Eric Benet is a better singer IMO… He als has more range…
