New Song: R. Kelly – ‘You Are Not Alone’ (Michael Jackson Cover)

Published: Thursday 9th Dec 2010 by Trent

R. Kelly has recorded a cover of Michael Jackson’s last #1 single (while alive), ‘You Are Not Alone’. The song was actually written and produced by Kelly for the King of Pop in 1995. Give it a listen below via Rap-Up:

That was a great cover but it was a bit over-produced. I respect the fact that Kelly tried to give it a more modern sound but the studio effects added to the vocals detracted from what could have been a raw and more believable vocal performance. Either way, there is no other singer out today who I would prefer to cover this song but him.

    R. Kelly >>>>>>>>>>>

    The one that can sang.

  5. OKAUU December 9, 2010

I like it! Maybe the younger generation will listen to the words and LEARN something, thats IS the point of covering an old song. R.Kelly did it justice.

    R.I.P MJ!

  6. Diane December 9, 2010

Perfect. R. Kelly’s version sounds like he is talking to a dear friend. Michael’s version sounds like he is talking to someone he is in love with romantically. R.Kelly and Michael – genius in their own right.

They sound so much alike! Wow R Kelly did justice.
Haters keep hating because we could not win without you guys! Keep on hating while we continue winning!

    R. Kelly >>>>>>>>>>> The Overrated one with that Awful Hesitant yet Raspy Annoyingly Bland Voice.

This is one of the FEW MJ songs I actually like (also like Ben & Billi Jean). If this doesnt prove R.Kelly Shits on MJ IDK what will 😕

    The REAL KING.

  9. This December 9, 2010

I’m sorry but R. Kelly shitted all over the original.

  10. Alexander December 9, 2010

R Kelly did the song justice

Wow! This is one of my all time favorite tracks from the King of Pop MJ. It’s one of those songs that you would think shouldn’t be touched, but Kells definitely did justice to the song. The man can sing and he can definitely bring emotion to a record. MJ had a very soft distinctive voice that I loved but Kells definitely has stronger vocals. He gets props from me.

I can’t really choose which one is better, I guess it just depends on personal opinion. I do agree with Trent that Kells version was over produced. The beat was kinda annoying to me.

Damn! R.Kelly has been putting out some hot ish lately and giving some hot performances! Trey…..your time may be up pretty soon boo.

  14. Lostonez December 9, 2010

kellz cover was gr8 but i rather mj soft voice ..MJ’s version moves me more and his soft voice puts me in another place..kellz version is gr8 but it’s kind of 2 fast to enjoy the story behind it

  15. S*** December 9, 2010

    @ Anon

In that case, Rkelly should have kept it for himself. Neither version is perfect IMO but RKelly kills MJ Vocally.

    MICHAEL JACKSON > > > > > > > [ ENTER NAME ]

  17. RonaldMatters.com December 9, 2010

    R. Kelly’s vocal is cute but …the beat is doing TOO MUCH!!

  18. IAMWHOIAM December 9, 2010

MJ is MJ. R. is R. Though I prefer Michael’s version, Kellz certainly did the song justice. And I agree with what the writer said about had he taken the voice effects off it would have been more soulful, especially toward the end. Both versions are touching.

    @Diane Great comment. :o)

    @ Anon

  23. IAMWHOIAM December 9, 2010

Look, don’t turn this into an MJ vs. R. Kelly topic. Let the man honor one of his heroes, geez!

  24. Ch… December 9, 2010

    @Que

He didn’t plagiarize the lyrics. The original beat just had a similar melody as some German song. It’s not uncommon for writers and producer to get sued for pity s*** like that. It happens all the time.

    Oh

    Vocally –
    R. Kelly > MJ

    Yea, I said it

  25. THEiVY December 9, 2010

i cosign with @lol they both sound great but mj slays ( enter your favorite artist here). mj was an a real artist and one of the first of his kind. he mixed influences of all of the greats before him without completely swagger jacking their style, and GET THIS he can actually sing and dance at the same time ! i wasnt a big mj fan, but at least he gave a real music without some silly gimmick to get our attention.

  26. I-P***-On-T***-Girls December 9, 2010

No RKelly, just no. EVERYONE OUT THERE IN MUSIC-LAND LISTEN UP, NEVER, (AND i DO MEAN NEVER) TRY TO COVER MJ, WHITNEY, OR ANY ARTIST BEFORE 1990.

    ‘I’M GONNA P*** ON YOU’

  27. PIERRE Smith December 9, 2010

michael’s is better he lost the feel of the song by speeding it up!
this is the problem with music now a days everyone just want’s to make everything up beat
YOU SHOULD HAVE MORE RESPECT R KELLY

  28. Akua Allen December 10, 2010

STOP HATING ON THIS MAN – HE IS ONE THAT WROTE THE SONG FOR MJ IN THE FIRST PLACE – SO HES THE ONLY PERSON WHO CAN REMAKE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  29. Froyo 11 December 10, 2010

I love it. Of course MJ’s my B. But it’s very good. I think covers help us appreciate the originals more. Or at least this cover made ME really appreciate the original version.

Plus, this song is so pretty, I love it coming out of anyone’s mouth. Justin Bieber could sing it and I’d still love it. Well…maybe.

  30. shell17nj December 10, 2010

I love michael.s version of course. but kudos to r-kelly for the cover. as you see this is not an easy song to duplicate. even r-kelly is struggling using autotunes.

  31. Kay Tee December 10, 2010

Hey hey Wow, Amazing I love it that he did song in his own version. Mj’s was great as well as this one is equally gud. Great work and respect to the king of POP and R&B

  34. I-Play-with-lil-boy-booty-holes December 12, 2010

    @I-P***-On-T***-Girls

MJ LOVED little white boy booty holes.

    R. Kelly peeing on a teenager >>>>>> MJ sodomizing 8 year old white boys.

  35. Sara December 18, 2010

That was not MJ’s last #1 single alive. Earth Song, Blood on the Dance Floor, You Rock My World were Number ones in other countries.
