I think Kelly releasing “DOWN FOR WHATEVER” as the second single will be a disaster. She will flop badly with that song. There are lots of artists making that style of music hence it will be more competitive and difficult to breakthrough and sell the album
“LAY IT ON ME’ is the perfect song to be released as a second single because Kelly still needs to accumulate more of her Urban fans before she can properly crossover mainstream and she won’t have any problems. Plus, the song also features BIG SEAN. Having “Lay it on me” as the second single is the perfect choice. In addition, “Lay it on me” is simple, cute, not very the top, but a great summer song.

I won’t be surprised if Kelly even sells 100K 150K without promotion. I mean she didn’t do any promotion for “Motivation” but it went to the top. Kelly sold 86,000 on the first week of her previous album “Miss Kelly”. And we all know she didn’t do any promotions, neither did she have any hits on that album.
But I do agree she needs to hit the promotion train like right now.

I wonder if her gig with X-Factor is the reason she’s not really promoting this album stateside. “Motivation” is a smash in the states. We all know that it spent 6 consecutive weeks atop the Billboard r&b/hiphop chart and is currently one position away from being a top twenty hit on the Billboard Hot 100. I don’t listen to radio very often and when I do I don’t listen to urban radio(I listen to adult contemporary). My musical taste is a bit too vast for the manotony of urban radio(all that hood-hop). So I have no idea how many spins “Motivation” gets in one day(although I’ve heard it gets alot). I also don’t know how “Lay It on Me” is performing. Has it even been released?
Anyhow, the only stateside promo that I have seen from Kelly(by way of the net) was her brief appearance on 106th & Park when she premiered “Motivation” months ago, and ofcourse her more recent performance at the BET awards(which she has yet to capitalize on). I have seen the video for “Motivation” on Centric( It’s like BET, only for grown and s*** black people with dignity, class and a love for all things old school) a number of times, so people(who don’t blog) should at least be aware of Kelly and her pending album.
But what I want to know is, where are the televised interviews? Where are the magazine covers?(Her Monarch cover isn’t even on the racks yet; still looking at Boris Kodjoe’s big, bald head. LOL). Where are her performances?
I do believe she’s already filmed an appearance on Fuse’s Talking To Strangers, hosted by CeeLo Green, but when does it air? Is she going to wait until after the album has been released to kick her promo campaign into high gear? She’s in Europe, why not promote there with interviews and performances. She doesn’t even have to perform “Motivation”. She could perform “Commander” or “Down For Whatever” overseas if she wants to stay true to the “dance diva” image she’s garnered for herself over there.
I’m rambling, I know. I just think that Kelly could and should be doing MORE for this album.
Oh well, At least she’s not an over-exposed, ubiquitous media-w**** who mind warps the public into buying her music. The people who support Kelly do it because they genuinely love and appreciate the music she makes and the woman that she is. Numbers and titles aside; Kelly may not be “the hottest chick in the game”(although, she is the most beautiful) but she is certainly one of the most talented ladies in the game, and that’s enough of a reason for me to keep supporting her.

Why no visible promo?! X Factor may have been a mistake.
I think she’s running into the same issue JLo had with Idol. With the scheduling of those type of shows, it is difficult to fully promo your product. Hence, why JLo is on the fence as far as returning to American Idol. Her video and on point performances helped boost her. I actually think Kelly’s team should have put her on X Factor here in the US. That would have been a more wise choice. I scratch my head at the lack of promos since the BET Awards. You would think they would release a 2nd single, push her. It’s more like ok Motivation hit #1 and she did a bomb performance, that’s it. She needs a better team of people behind her still to make the right decisions. I would really like to see her perform more. She’s very talented.
