Michelle Williams To Go Gospel Again?

Published: Thursday 28th Jul 2011 by Rashad

With fellow Destiny’s Child alums Kelly Rowland and Beyonce both making splashes on the charts this summer, Michelle Williams has been eyeing a return of her own.  While the recent buzz single ‘Love Gun’ has been making its rounds on the net, the singer recently sat down with our friends over at The BoomBox to reveal a few of her other loves – including gospel music.

Said to be near completion of her untitled 4th studio album, the ‘Hello Heartbreak’ singer has revealed its tone will be similar to that of its 2008 predecessor ‘Unexpected’.  But, is Williams also expecting a return to gospel charts?  Find out after the jump:

Via The BoomBox:

On ‘Love Gun’:

“The song ‘Love Gun’ is actually an extension of my 2008 album, titled ‘Unexpected,’ which had a dance-pop, type of feel,”.  “So I’ve been doing this style of music now, I’d say going on three years now.

“This isn’t different from anything I’ve been doing,” she reveals. “We were just playing around in the studio and it just is a song I decided to record. That’s how it came about. I love all types of music — jazz, classical blue grass, pop, dance, whatever. As long as I feel good and I feel like it can make everybody feel in a great way and inspire, then it’s all good to me.”

On possible return to gospel:

Of course, my first two solo albums were gospel and gospel still being my first love, which I will definitely be doing a gospel album soon.”

You can listen to ‘Love Gun’ here.

    Michelle. Stick to gospel/inspirational.

I don’t think I can handle another DC3 embarrassment on the charts.

  4. Jonathan Gardner July 28, 2011

Whatever she does, she SLAYS, with that unique tone and AMAZING RANGE.

I’m so looking forward to Tenitra’s next album…girl gonna SNATCH that critical acclaim! She always puts out great albums no matter the genre.

She’s mastered everything from Contemporary Gospel/Inspirational R&B – Heart To Yours and Do You Know – to Pop, Dance-Pop, electropop and R&B (Unexpected) to showtunes/musicals (AIDA, The Colour Purple, Chicago, What My Husband Doesn’t Know) and even Hip-Hop Soul (Destiny Fulfilled)

I just have to saw the first 3 stories on this blog are of DC3 I don’t care how they do on the charts. Those are some beautiful talented ladies, and we still talk about them because they are interesting. I wish all of them the best of luck. Can anyone remember the last girl group that had each member making some kind of buzz constantly and still looking good. Love them!

  12. MichelleWFan July 28, 2011

I don’t think she should turn Gospel now… I think she should either release her European song “On The Run” to see how it goes, then do a HARD & SMOOTH R&B album for the US or simply an other AWESOME Dance/Pop/R&B album. But NOT no gospel album.. Please don’t Michelle !

  13. Kellymotivation July 28, 2011

    @Jonathan Gardner,

Save yourself, cos she’s still gonna flop……….except she does gospel…..I love Michelle and everything but she’s gonna flop regardless.

  14. Jonathan Gardner July 28, 2011

    @KELLYMOTIVATION

I am a fan of Michelle and her music, not how much she sells or how high she charts. Let’s not even go there….ok,

Anywho, HERE I AM in stores now! Support Ms Kelendria!

The Sasha Fierce in me wants to say that she’s ruining the DC3 legacy with her FLOP efforts, but I have a feeling Beyonce would rather have me say this instead:

If she turns to Gospel, I’ll be proud that she’s staying true to herself and growing her spirituality inspite of the current trend.

If she doesn’t, than “Welcome to the dark side!”

Either way she’s a beautiful woman and I truly believe that the Destiny’s Child legacy goes beyond album sales; it also entails the class that these 3 talented woman have displayed throughout their lives.

Lol, I love how there is a DC3 reunion on TGJ. Look at the order of the posts: Michelle, Kelly & Beyonce.

She needs to go to McDonald;s and super size her meal. girl bye!

  19. Jonathan Gardner July 28, 2011

    @VAN Michelle doesn’t follow trends.

She was one of the FIRST Urban singers to try Electropop and Dance-pop with Unexpected in 2008. Bey followed suit with a few songs on I Am… while Kelly took the sound to another (much more Dance-y) level with Guetta in 2009 on the massive, worldwide smash hit “When Love Takes Over”

Unexpected was actually ahead of its time and incredibly underrated.

  20. MaZ July 28, 2011

All I want is something, new, fresh and “unexpected” from my girl Michelle! 😉

  21. Topic July 28, 2011

Michelle will surprise everyone on the next era.. Wait & See.

You said it all for me…

S/N: I REALLY THINK THE “UNEXPECTED” ALBUM WAS SOLID AND COULD HAVE DONE BETTER WITH PROPER PROMO…WE BREAK THE DAWN COULD HAVE BEEN A TOP 10 HIT and “The Greatest” was my favorite song ever from her…I don’t really want her to do a Gospel record because all of her gospel records have FLOPPED..

I didnt even know she was the first DC3 member to release a solo album..

  24. Jonathan Gardner July 28, 2011

@YEABEY, her first gospel album didn’t “flop”. Itr was actually THE biggest gospel album of 2002…it just wasn’t promoted – nor its single “Heard A Word” – on mainstream like it easily could have been. Songs like “Heard A Word” were perfect for Urban Adult Contemporary while the Mary Mary feature “So Glad” could have easily had the sort of crossover success that “Shackles (Praise You)” had on Urban radio and mainstream r&b and pop charts.

  25. iloverihanna>beyonceislame July 28, 2011

why does it matter? No one paid attention to her when she was pop/r&b in DC. She might as well stick to popping that p**** cuz her voice aint special enough to get sales.

  26. Topic July 28, 2011

Did a RIHANNA fan just said something about Michelle’s vocals ?
    THE JOKE.

  27. iloverihanna>beyonceislame July 28, 2011

And I’m right. She’s only relevant cuz of DC.

  28. iloverihanna>beyonceislame July 28, 2011

@Topic she can’t sing as well as Beyonce and Kelly. And I already know rihanna is not the greatest singer. I like rihanna cuz of her music. Not her voice. The jokes on you.

  29. RATEDXXX(AKARATEDX) July 28, 2011

for some reason I always liked Michelle voice the best..whenever she sang, you can actually feel what shes feeling, she brings real emotions…

I wish her the best on her next album,

  30. Topic July 28, 2011

@ILoveRihanna You are delusional ! Beyonce (Even though i can’t stand her) is an amazing vocalist ! And Michelle’s voice is so special and powerful,As for Kelly, she’s not a very great singer nor performer, but she’s definetly better than your red wig p**.
what the F*** do you got in your hear ? DAMN !!

    #MichelleFor2012

IMO IF an album doesn’t make a mark on the billboard charts…it underperformed ( i see that you don’t like the word FLOP….so i went with something less harsh)

  34. BeyFLOPse July 29, 2011

Loved her gospel album. She needs to stick to that. U cant keep goin back and forth though

  35. nice_gurl July 29, 2011

I love her voice mainly on gospel and r&b tracks. I like how she experiments with different sounds, but she is mostly good at gospel and r&b more than anything else.

  36. YOOSONDALOOSE July 29, 2011

She is so good, ‘Love Gun’ is really interesting and very chart friendly.

  37. Jonathan Gardner July 31, 2011

@YEABEY you obviously don’t understand that Billboard has many charts.

Heart To Yours topped the US Billboard Gospel albums chart for weeks – hence its title as the biggest gospel record of 2002. Dumb b***h
