Mary J. Blige Rocks The Fillmore

Faithful followers of Mary J. Blige filled The Fillmore Silver Spring last night for its grand (re)opening.  And though some fans felt slighted by the ‘No More Drama’ diva’s short set (lasting less than 75 minutes), being treated to nearly two decades worth of hits certainly helped ease the disappointment.

As fans know, while the journey on the promo trail for the singer’s forthcoming LP ‘My Life II: The Journey Continues’ is revving up, Blige always beams when performing old favorites.  See which crowd pleaser she opened with after the jump:

Further reminder of how there are so many singers half her age that can’t even do half the things she does.  No choreography, no distracting bells and whistles, nothing short of amazing.  Just voice and presence.

I love how since day 1 Mary has never had to show her ass, shake her ass or pull stunts for her fans or anyone else. Her presence and voice alone have always been enough to win over any crowd. So many artist have sold their souls to the powers that be and use gimmicks and fake imagery to manipulate the masses into believing they are greater than what they really are, looking for idol worship. Mary is truly one of the few real artist left in an industry full of fakes. Mary rocked the Filmore in a way that only she can and blessed her audience with a timeless classic, My Life from beginning to end! She touched souls and made that album brand new all over again. Mary is the urban voice of this modern era, the new Queen of Soul after Aretha. Mary was put here for a reason. God bless her and her 20 years in the industry thus far. Can’t wait until her new album drops.
