Day 26 are back! A feat of epic proportions given their Bad Boy humblings.
A member down and a no longer with the Diddy-helmed label, the group (who now call Atlantic Records home) are keen to show they can make a name beyond the ‘Making The Band’ moniker and without former bandmate Q.
New single ‘Made Love Lately’ is the vehicle the quad are hoping will mobilise their return to the charts. The Jim Beanz produced cut is also accompanies the group’s new reality webisode, the trailer for which you can check out after the jump – together with ‘Love Lately’.
Though lyrically, the track finds the group in tried, tested, and overdone territory, it’d be criminal to dismiss the lush melodies and harmonies which decorate the solid mid-tempo.
What’s more, true to form, Robert, Willie, Mike, and Brian, all turn in stellar vocal contributions, offering a nostalgic throwback to the R&B groups of yesteryear. You know, the Boyz II Mens, Blackstreets, and New Editions. All of who laid great emphasis on both collective and solo input to tracks.
Yet it’s this “sound of yesteryear” which also serves as potentially detrimental here. For, after many a listen, I still struggle to see where this would sit in the contemporary climate. Even in the Urban arena. As such, the boys would be well-advised to pair ‘Lately’ with something more contemporary; even if it means deeming this a buzz track. Sometimes, it pays (quite literally) to “play the game”.
Speaking of which, the group are playing their trusty reality card in a bid to reintroduce themselves to the current market. Check out the trailer for their forthcoming web-series below:

It’s a cool track, but it really doesn’t stand out.They deserve to come back, though, they’re talented.But when I say “come back” I don’t mean getting top 3 albums, doing tours etc.I am talking about a good album that will be well received and accompanied by a couple of singles, a couple of videos and some small-venue performances.For now, this is the comeback that they can pull off.

this type of music isnt getting played on the radio, they can go towards the trey songz route i guess, i wish them well, its going to be very challenging in todays music, music has changed so much since their last cd came out, they sound good, i like them better than danity kane anyway, luv day 26!1
I remember the Rebel version of this song from a year and a half ago… interesting to see how it got passed to Day26. Glad to see they’re bouncing back, though. One of my favorite groups/artists of the 00s.

This track is hot! In the R&B realm for a male-group its a good track. And i disagree with most comments suggesting that this song wouldn’t get airplay. It may not go mainstream because its too R&B for crossover appeal to a broader audience but it has great potential for urban radio. DAY26 is the only group IMO that can gain major potential success as a male R&B group right now in time. The reason being name another male group out right now that is not up & coming. Aside from the kiddie pool (ie Mindless Behavior) they are like the only group whose already had mainstream exposure through MTV Making The Band. The boys have undeniable talent so with a new label and this reality show it will be interesting to see how they fair.
On another note anybody ever wonder how Diddy had two big talented groups and yet lost both. Then capitalized off of one group members talent to pretend to be an artist then not even giving that artist at least a solo deal. WTF!? Bad Boy Curse has come full circle yet again. Every thing he touches when it comes to music crashes and burns under his guidance. He might have discovered alot of artist like Mary J. Blige, Biggie, 112, Total, Usher, Faith Evans, etc. but it never last long for them under his label.
Que is needed he just added to the group for real they are talented but ques vocals are crazy with the group….but the track is nice and they do sound good….

Their all vocally talented. Their latest single “Made Love Lately” is vocally perfect, but this is a “been there done that song” by many artists before them. I think their album will sell well because they have talent, but will they reach across to all audiences? Not really. They can still be r&b but incorporate some rock, pop, and dance influences AND yes they need to be contemporary if they want to sell. Other than that their fine.

S/N: I am guessing that they did not get the memo: Boy bands are dead. Therefore any further effort on their part as “Day26” will only prove to be futile and disappointing.
@musik lover…thank you this track is the works, but i do agree with the writer of this story and say the lyrics are a little overdone-and the talking at the top takes me back to the 60’s…Day 26 was not my cup of tea, im generally not a boy band person, but i LOVE them-these guys are so talented…they can sing all day. they changed my mind like no other. however, Que’s voice is missed-he was actually my favorite in the group. i wish them the best of luck. maybe they should concentrate more on the music and less on the whole reality tv thing, sometimes it’s better to put your efforts into one thing at a time, otherwise you have a bunch of celebrities and no artist. you know people who are famous-but you don’t know what for. i will give diddy props for putting them out with new material and just for the simple fact that they are even still on his label…

I’m so happy to see that they are still together and still grinding it out. These are some talented fellas and I will support them because I happen to be one of those who grew up with and prefers REAL SINGING! I’m so happy they are still doing there thing, and I do hope that they have a good A&R guy as well as a good manager because they’re going to need all of the material, promotion and gigs that they can get.
This is a good song. Even though my fave member is out the group -_- (Que) Im very happy they didn’t fall to the Diddy curse and break up. When Que was in the group they were AMAZING!!!!!!! but since they lost Que they are a basic R&B group. DO YALL THING Day26!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kudos to them for getting themselves out there and going to other labels. At the same time they need to think of what year it is..whats selling..what women wanna hear..what guys wanna hear..and go from there..This is their comfort zone..and they’re in no position to be comfortable at all.
