Should Gwen Stefani Make A Solo Comeback?

Published: Monday 17th Oct 2011 by David

After Madonna taught the world how to ‘Vogue‘  in the early 90s but before Lady GaGa mastered the art of fame whoring in the mid noughties, there was  Gwen Stefani.

Mainstream enough to be revered as a house hold name but artistic enough to maintain a fan base completely turned off by the Britney‘s and Aguilera‘s of the world, Ms. Stefani was undoubtedly one of Pop’s more celebrated creations.

Loved for her work as the front woman of No Doubt but more famed for her efforts as a solo act, Gwen’s announcement that her ‘solo career was over‘ shocked and startled many who were hoping a new album and tour were in the works.

Now we want you to weigh in.

Should Gwen make a comeback?

For the nostalgia:

No thanks! She was great but she wasn’t too much of anything and isn’t remembered much when speaking of music despite the fact that she did have a couple of hits.

  2. Christian October 17, 2011

I really enjoyed Gwen’s first album. The 2nd album was just a HOT MESS!!!! I prefer her with No Doubt which I’m impateintly waiting for their new album.

  3. Imgunnacheckuboo October 17, 2011

I don’t know if she NEEDS to come back. I honestly don’t see a place for her currently but she’d be welcome to. She was always fun and fresh with her music and fashion and I wouldn’t mind seeing her around again.

However, I take exception to “artistic enough to maintain a fan base completely turned off by the Britney’s and Aguilera’s of the world” how exactly was she more “artistic” outside of wearing crazy looking clothes?

Her songs were not all that different sounding from anything else on the radio.

  4. OsO October 17, 2011

omg don’t w scare me like that!

I thought she was REALLY making a comeback…

  5. NATALIE THE NAVY GIRL October 17, 2011

Yes she needs too. Her two albums were both amazing. Come back Gwen.

  6. Alex October 17, 2011

I love me some Gwen, I don’t know if she should make a solo comeback when No Doubt’s gearing up for one, I would enjoy seeing her again solo but I’d also enjoy seeing her with the band

  7. Theman October 17, 2011

She was always fun and fresh with her music and fashion and I wouldn’t mind seeing her around again.

For these reasons mentioned above along with a few other innovative things it would be great for her to do so. She is an individual that makes great pop records. The thing with Gwen is that she has her own lane, she is very distinctive in her sound and her music. As for Britney/Christina, Britney makes fun dance pop that isn’t to be taken to seriously. She has alot of great fun catchy pop records. Christina is a great artist. She has showed lots of artistic growth in terms of her music.

She should come back with a new solo album after the next No Doubt album, miss these original original girls instead of the basic b****** we have stuffed down our throats atm like Gaga and Nicki…

  9. ASAP (As Sincere As Possible) October 17, 2011

No need for an essay : YES!
She should come back having improved her stage presence a bit.Her material will be more mature and her videos will be more creative. She could come back in 2013-2014 after No Doubt’s comeback.

There were better artist, but I always enjoyed Gwen. I wouldn’t mind her comeback at all. I wanted to see more of her with those harajuku girls from HollaBack anyway. It would be great to see something other than the 5 bland music artist, that’s taking music 100 steps backwards! Gwen would be a great escape from all the crap they push down our throats.

“HOLLABACK GIRL” WAS THE “ISH” BACK IN 2005!!!

I SPECIFICALLY REMEMBER THERE BEING FIVE DISTINCTIVE SONGS THAT WERE RECIEVING RADIO PLAY LEFT, RIGHT & CENTER THAT YEAR – AND IT WAS LITERALLY JUST THOSE FIVE SONGS!!!

MARIAH’S “WE BELONG TOGETHER” GWEN’S “HOLLABACK GIRL” KANYE WEST’S “GOLD-DIGGER, 50 CENT’S “CANDY SHOP” & MARIO’S “LET ME LOVE YOU”

    THAT WAS THE YEAR!!!

AND YES, HER COMEBACK IS NEEDED!

H** you are the definition of a hater, die you rusty b****, mkay thanks 🙂

  17. JohnVidal October 17, 2011

I´m sorry but I don´t think Gwen Stefani is more famed as a solo artist. I´m so sure No Doubt has sold so many more albums than her, and she really only had one succesful album I think. Don´t speak is a classic, she clearly has not a classic like that in her solo career.
Don´t get me wrong cos I liked her. But she herself knows that the moment for being a solo artist ended long ago

  18. Vegas girl October 17, 2011

Sure, why not. She was original in her persona and quite frankly still hasn’t been duplicated ( which is great, Katy perry shares some elements though). I enjoyed her. Her sound was unique then also, later fergie came in and had a similar sound to her music.

She would still offer an alternative to whats currently out, which is always a welcome thing! Do it Gwen!

  19. Malibu Barbie October 17, 2011

I THINK SHE SHOULD she’s had back to back hits… her own unique style.. bangers.. and good production.. i really think she should.. and she could show nicki minaj who the real Harajuku Princess is

  20. Fogerna October 17, 2011

i think Gwen could do it..she should give it a shot..

  21. Alex October 17, 2011

I always loved Gwen Stefani. I think that before Gaga she was the only one who could actually be compared to Madonna.

Gurl can write her music, produce it, compose it. She could do everything.

For not having that amazing of a voice vocal range-wise she could still sing live.

And she is legit competition for Gaga and Beyonce.

I’d rather have the charts be full of Gwen’s, Gaga’s and Bey’s music before any of these other basic h***.

  22. fasdf October 17, 2011

Shes coming back with No Doubt this year.

  23. ASAP (As Sincere As Possible) October 17, 2011

@JOHNVIDAL You cannot compare No Doubt to Gwen.Gwen’s career was far more pop than No Doubt’s career and she didn’t release the same music as they did.And anyway, Gwen has 3 classics.’What You Waiting For’ and ‘Hollaback Girl’.And I don’t misuse the term “classic”.Those songs are still remembered, still getting a bit of airplay etc.Arguably, she doesn’t have a classic as HUGE as ‘Don’t Speak’, but classics vary in popularity and impact. Those 2 Gwen tracks are classics and arguably ‘Rich Girl’ COULD be considered a classic too, with the term used a bit more loosely.

  24. ASAP (As Sincere As Possible) October 17, 2011

*and anyway, Gwen has 2 classics.

  25. nothing October 17, 2011

sure. why not? depends what she caters tho. it’s try and error/success.

  26. Fatima October 17, 2011

I would rather have solo Gwen than no Gwen but I’d much rather hear new No Doubt stuff than her on her own.

  27. Onyx October 17, 2011

Yes she should make an album ala “Blondie” with New Wave, Alternative Rock, Pop Rock and Post-Punk, would be awesome.

  28. swagg October 17, 2011

i used to like gwen and no doubt…..that era for pop wasnt as bad to me and i dont like pop but i could kinda rock with nsync backstreet xtina no doubt even brit sometimes back then…now this new age s*** is garbage to me gaga katy perry rihanna…i certainly dont like it so i wouldnt mind seeing somebody like gwen come back esp since not too many ppl heating up the rnb charts now

Yes….2005,Better yet 2005-07 was one the BEST part of the last decade (in music.)

AAAAAAAAND IDC IF Fergie isn’t the best live singer. She needs a comeback as well as Gwen Stefani.(Glamorous AND Fergielicious SLAYED!)

I miss my middle school years just thinking about it…

  30. sheltop October 17, 2011

I WOULD LOVE FOR HER TO COME BACK!!! IF NOT I ATLEAST NEED EITHER HER AND EVE OR HER AND PHARELL TO DO ONE MORE SONG TOGETHER!!! HOTTEST F****** COLABS IN MUSIC!

  31. Troybenz October 17, 2011

i was just thinking about this girl today .

Yes she needs to come back i loved her in NO DOUBT but i think that she,s better as a solo artist

nd she has to come back a new solo album pleass gwen come back where are you now btw 😛

  32. Theman October 18, 2011

Both of Gwen’s albums were successful, and she had hits on both albums.

  33. JohnVidal October 18, 2011

    @ASAP (As Sincere As Possible)
Don´t Speak is the only real classic you named. That song will never get old, it sounds like it could have been made today. That succes she never had as a solo artist. That being said, I liked her but I think she would find it difficult to sell an important amount of albums by herself nowadays. She better try it with No Doubt. And I think she knows it

  34. MISHKA October 18, 2011

I’m not even going to read all of this. The answer is : NO

The scene is too competitive right now for solo acts, especially among those blonde chicks.

But could she make a comeback with No Doubt? Well you have your answer: NO DOUBT.

  35. Jam October 18, 2011

SHE IS WITH NO DOUBT. THERE WILL BE NO GWEN SOLO ALBUM AGAIN, in my opinion. Depending on success of No Doubt, hopefully they’ll have much success…Gwen will probably focus of the fashion once this No Doubt bit has finished, THOUGH I’m talking anytime up to the next 10 years etc etc.

  36. RyanS October 18, 2011

    Yes she should!!!

  37. Angie October 18, 2011

I have enjoyed Gwen’s solo music. I think her sound was modern and unique. I wouldn’t be mad at a comeback from her. But she also didn’t make enough of an impact for me to need her to return to music. If she does…great; if not…on to the next.

  38. JohnVidal October 18, 2011

    @Angie
    That´s exactly my point

  39. AlWell October 18, 2011

I would prefer a No Doubt reunion as well

  40. KINGBEYSUS October 18, 2011

    Gwen & Fergie>>>>>

How dare anyone say there isn’t a place for her when she birthed the talentless h*** you stan for.
