Report: Drake Fires Management Team

Published: Thursday 1st Dec 2011 by David

With almost 800,000 copies sold within the space of two weeks, Drake‘s latest album ‘Take Care’ has given both he and his management, Hip Hop Since 1978, much to smile about.

Well -that is until a few days ago.

For today, reports have emerged that the Canadian Rapper has parted days with the company, less than three years after signing with them.

All the details below…

Housing the likes of Kanye West and Nicki Minaj, who signed to the company shortly after giving former manager Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs the boot, Hip Hop Since 1978 is also responsible for the campaigns behind  the Rapper’s latest project and its predecessor ‘Thank Me Later‘.

As if his dismissal of this group wasn’t enough, he has also severed ties with one time representatives,  International Creative Management, and replaced them with Brent Smith of  the William Morris Endeavor who also represent Snoop Dogg.

While fans can expect carefully worded statements from both ICM and 1978 ‘wishing Drake well’ to surface in coming days, there is little doubt the relationship between the Rapper and his former partners is anything but amicable.

Because, putting aside all the legal hoo-ha that comes with a decision like this, things must have been pretty bad for Drake to dismiss them in the middle of a successful promotional campaign.

Either way, only time will what this really means for his career.

Let’s just hope he doesn’t live to regret it.

Well hopefully Drake made the right choice. Either way I believe his talent will speak for itself!

ICM is pretty amazing. Why he dismissed them I can only guess. He better not leave Young Money. It would look disloyal, wack and make him boring.

most boring rapper. wackest rapper concert…. drake. So little time, two albums and he is floating. He is even changing management. I hope he is not floating too high.

Drake is a lame ass rapper and is the most non-credible rapper on the planet. Dude even admitted a year ago he cant even sing otherwise he wouldnt be a rapper. Dude is just a tv actor from canada. Look at his backstage days and interviews during his Degrassi days. He’s anything but a urban hip hop star but femme hood wannabe actor. Guess this will lead him back to the cave where he came from. Next.

I Dont think that was a smart move Drake, but oh well hopefully his success will continue.

I hope he hurries up and fulfills his obligation to Young Money, I never thought that was a good fit for him. He either should’ve stayed indie or got with Kanye’s GOOD Music.

I agree that that was far too many hands in his pockets and hope that the streamlining gets him tv, movie & commercial deals in addition to him continuing to put out music.

He did the right thing, now he’s needs to dismiss young money because birdmand and wayne greedy asses got they hands in his pocket too and get with Roc Nation or Good Music

drake doesnt need ymcmb. YM is the kind of label an artist needs to help build hype for their name and image to sell. Drake CLEARLY doesnt need that because his work speaks for itself. To me he always stuck out in that family. He has the talent to stand on his own. So if that decision ever comes that he wants to leave Young Money…he wont have a problem staying successful without them.

It is about time Drake try something new…..he is one of my favorite artist!

    Wrong Sam

Drake is no longer with ICM but he is still being managed by Hip Hop since 1978 under William morris endeavor

The Hollywood reporter has the real story. *rolls eyes at this sub par journalism*

Hmmm. This is very interesting. Especially since his career has been on a steady climb every since his debut. It would appear as if they have done nothing but good for him, there was no public scandal and his sales were through the roof! Something must have happened behind the scenes.

I swear its only a matter of time before he leaves Young Money. Mark my words. I don’t know when or how it will happen, but at the rate he is going he is gonna outgrow them and it really doesn’t appear that they are doing anything for him. Besides Wayne & Nicki, that label is full of a bunch of rejects that aren’t going anywhere. I know he has this ‘loyalty’ thing that he keeps preaching about but I seriously doubt he is gonna feel the same way a few years down the road.
