Wow this performance was really great. Like someone mentioned aside from bey, Kelly is the only other urban female to kill a stage like that. The problem is that people want Kelly to have PERFECT vocals live because Beyonce has set such a high standard. However, even if her vocals aren’t always on point she always deliver a great performance. These other female AND male singers fail to do that in my opinion. I can watch Beyonce, Kelly, Chris Brown and Gaga perform all day. Nice!
These performances of Down For Whater are solidifying her place as one of the best in the industry right now, if she keeps this up along with slaying Keep It Between Us and Feeling Me Right Now (which i love ) as singles. She will become a fave in my book. And i can’t wait to see the direction of her next album which should be released next yr because in her case she needs to capitalize on her new found power!

Put ANY up-and-coming wannabe on THAT stage, with THOSE dancers, in front of THOSE flashing lights, and you’d NEVER know the difference. That’s just how “unremarkable” a performer 30-something-year-old Kelly Rowland is: a boring, dreary, mossy, fogged-up sideshow!
..Which is precisely why Matthew Knowles left her and Michelle Williams in DC. As far as ambition, talent and looks, Latoya Luckett (sp?) was Beyonce’s equal. And “equals” – per “Knowles decree” – Beyonce/DC couldn’t have! So “OUT” with any real competition, to possibly upstage Beyonce, and “IN” with the two, now familiar, human-sized card-board cut-outs, better know as Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams!

Nice performance. Kelly can dance her b*** off. This is what people wanted and she’s giving it to them. I am the first to put Kelly in the hot seat for vocal inconsistencies, but the fact is, if Kelly were sitting on a stool singing a ballad, or standing in place belting, she would sound phenomenal (as she has in past performances) but lately Kelly has been singing AND dancing. She’s not holding back in the dancing department either. She kills the choreography; and Kelly’s choreography is mostly foot work. Think about it. Kelly gives us house dancing with “Down For Whatever”. She gives us s***, circa late 90’s Janet with “Motivation. She gives us old school meets new school flavor during her opening dance number (just before banging out “Like This”) then she gives us crazy D.C. club hopping energy with her “Doing the B***” breakdown. The girl is giving us Kelly Rowland the performer, but I think we’re beginning to miss Kelly Rowland the vocalist. I think once Kelly is given the opportunity to headline her own tour or to showcase her own mini concert via a television special or DVD all her own; we’ll see both Kelly the performer and Kelly the vocalist in one. Introducing us to Kelly the ultimate entertainer. I’m just happy she’s no longer timid. Kelly use to puurrr. Now, she’s ROARING like the industry lioness she has become. I’m excited about her evolution as a performer.

I’m also happy that the people responsible for the montage at the very beginning only listed KELLY’S achievements (apart from Destiny’s Child). People never stop to consider all the things this girl has accomplished on her own because there so busy comparing her to her fellow band mate. The fact is, however, Kelly is (like Beyonce) a multi-platinum selling SOLO artist, a grammy award winning SOLO artist and a multi-talented industry veteran (singer, dancer and actress). She’s also beginning to brand herself (fragrances and ad campaigns). The biggest difference between she and Bey is quantity, not quality and the fact that Beyonce got a head start. Kelly (though working and achieving early on in her solo career despite being cast as “Beyonce’s buddy” who just so happens to sing too) didn’t really begin shining until she dropped Matthew, parted ways with Columbia and learned to talk about HERSELF instead of someone else during an interview. She really has come a long way; and the best part is, she still has room to grow. I do love the fact that Kelly still acknowledges all of the people who are helping her shine instead of taking false credit and trying to convince the public that she does it ALL herself. I hope that never changes about her. The fact that Kelly is genuine and truly humble (modest even) is a stark contrast between she and her friend (you all know what friend I’m talking about). Kelly doesn’t need to broadcast her independence every 5 seconds like some people. She told us that she was gonna ‘bump like this’ because she’s ‘that chick’ who’s ‘feeling herself right now’ and is finally ‘motivating’ everyone around her to ‘work it, man’; so she can ‘command’ her piece of ‘heaven and earth’. This era is about Kelendria the SOLO artist cementing her place as a SOLO ARTIST. From the branding, to the higher profile of her mag spreads and definently the higher profile of her performances, it all has one underlying theme…showcasing SOLO Kelly Rowland. Her confidence is at an all time high and even in all of her interviews and performances you can tell that she is definently not shy or timid anymore and I for one am glad to see it. Her performances are becoming more consistent and she is entertaining now more than ever. SINGING AND DANCING and showing us why she is a FOUNDING member of the best selling girl group of all time and that she is NOT A BACKING vocalist for anyone.
Another point I want to make is that just Kelly finding success on any level outside of a super successful girl group is a feat within itself. What group do you know, let alone GIRL GROUP that has any member (outside of the “lead” singer) FIND AND MAINTAIN SOLO SUCCESS outside of the group. ……….NO ONE THAT I CAN THINK OF.
Outside of the group, Ms Kelly has amassed 20 million records (4 million albums/16 million singles) 2 Grammys (For a total of 5) 2 TMF Awards, 1 ASCAP , 1 IDMA, 1 Soul Train award with many more to come. Flop my ass! Haters keep her motivated….LITERALLY!
Think of HERE I AM as a launching pad to greater heights in and out of music and while it may not break any charts commmercially it is definently more of a statement of who and where Ms Kelly is at this point in her long career and I cant wait for the HERE I AM tour and the next moves from Ms Kelly.
