The last few years have seen Kelly Rowland really step out as a solo force. An occurrence which has not only been noted by many a music head, but also Essence – who are to honour the singer next month.

The respected outlet host their 3d Annual Black Women In Music gala on February 8th, and have chosen Rowland and music exec Sylvia Rhone as the night’s honorees.
Speaking on why the singer was chosen, ESSENCE editor-in-chief Constance C.R. White said:
“We’ve watched Kelly Rowland for over a decade grow from a teenage sensation into an international superstar. Her talent, drive and remarkable creative force show what it truly means to be a young powerhouse in an ever-changing industry.
Kelly embodies the ‘soul’ of young Black women through her music and we are proud to salute her dynamic contributions.”
The ‘Motivation’ singer will also perform at the pre-Grammy event, as will rapper Eve.

Needless to say, this is quite the coup for Kelly – who is also nominated for two Grammy’s. Undoubtedly a great way to kick off the New Year, here’s wishing her continued success moving forward.
