UK Charts: Adele’s ’21’ Makes History

Published: Sunday 8th Jan 2012 by David

With only a few weeks shy of the anniversary of its release, Adele‘s sophomore album ‘21′ has made history yet again!

Indeed, with a whopping 19 non consecutive weeks spent atop the UK Album Chart, it is the longest running #1 album in the country since Simon & Garfunkel’s ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ which held court at the top spot for a mind blowing 33 non-consecutive weeks following its release in 1970.

This comes after the project was confirmed as being 2011’s highest selling album world wide with over 15 million copies sold, and after the singer picked up multiple nominations at the 2012 Grammy Awards, surpassing the efforts of chart rivals Rihanna, Lady GaGa and Katy Perry.

Well done Adele!

    @THE GREAT LACEFRONCE

    But Your Fave Khia Can never……ever in her life….do numbers like adele or even have a good album like hers….

    Never seen since the 20th century! 00´s b******… bow down to Adele. She destroyed you all making it like the 90´s b******, huge way and with pure talent LOL

    That Adele reign just won’t let up!

    Set Fire to the Rain is bound to be the 3rd consecutive #1 single from the album. And the album itself is about to break another record in the US tying and hopefully beating the Titanic soundtrack for most weeks on the chart/at #1 on the BB 200.

    That’s a bad b****!

    If this keeps going, her label should really push to tie her with Michael and Katy and hopefully beat Katy for the most #1’s from the same album. If they go that route, they should release Rumour Has It, One and Only and Turning Tables

    @ LAX-

    Finally we agree on something.

    That b**** keep saying that Khia is going to slay our favs this year when that b**** ain’t had s*** in years and whatever she did have out wasn’t even a hit. The only thing Khia has done recently was slam the hell out of everybody else because she mad they’re more talented and successful than she is.

    @ChristinasCOMING
    I agree with all but I don´t want her to break the next records she is gonna achieve. I mean the albums that she is going to keep surpassing for more weeks at the top of USA album chart are too huge and amazing. I would like it to stop now, the problem is the b**** owns this and she has no real competition like back then (80´s, 90´s). But happy for what she has done this year. music needed it. “21” is amazing

    @ THE GREAT LACEFRONCE.

    H** HUSH!!!! You make no sense as usual. Your opinion is s*** and h** you will deal 😉
    You stan for basic b****** like Ashanti and Khia. Buy their s***** albums because they are struggling for relevancy. 😉

    Adele >>>> Khia’s whole career

    @THE GREAT LACEFRONCE.

    21 will still sell well for at least another 8 months. And she is taking a few years off for herself and her voice, so ya obvi 2012 won’t be as big as 2011.

    And this is how you turn heartbreak into multi-platinum success. 😀

    Seriously though, I’m happy that this album is smashing in every aspect. It deserves to. Nearly a year since it’s been out, and I love this album more and more with each listen. It’s a true classic. I just wish other great albums would see similar success instead of the crap that dominates the charts.

  11. Boo! January 8, 2012

    Who the f*** is STILL buying this album??? That’s all I wanna know!

  12. xoxo January 8, 2012

    She makes me proud to be british. None of your faves have sold 15 million from 1 album.

  13. nuhoh January 8, 2012

    well..21 will be over 20 million by Spring…and Set Fire to The Rain will be number 1 in a few weeks in the US..Adele is doing it bigger than everyone else..and with no promo….WoW!!!!

  14. Geezy January 8, 2012

    Everyone should be happy that talent is finally winning again over gimmicks. I’m happy for Adele and her accomplishments. Now let’s hope her achievements are properly recognized.

  16. ChristinasCOMING January 8, 2012

    @ COMMANDER OF THE….

    You’re forgetting honey that the US has a population of over 300 million people. It doesn’t matter when they buy the album, just as long as they do.

    Some people have to wait until they can afford it. Some people waited until the holidays to go buy it. It’s a fierce album.
