Pop icon Whitney Houston is set to take her final bow this August, when in the big-screen adaptation of ‘Sparkle’ hits theaters.
And in newly released footage, the late star – who was laid to rest last week – can be seen performing a stirring rendition of ‘His Eye Is On The Sparrow’.
Watch Nippy, who stars as Effie in the movie, soar after the jump…
Bittersweet, the footage showcased the potential encased within Whitney’s “new” voice. A voice rich in both texture and power; one which boasted glimmers of the magic which defined her peak. However, it’s sadly a voice which is now silenced.
It’s our prayer that Whitney finds in death the true peace which eluded the latter part of her earthly existence.
O wow it is so sad how she was on her way back. Waiting to exhale 2, rumors of X factor meetings. But who are we to question the Lord God he knows why she had to leave and his timing is always perfect…. RIP Whitney Houston Will always Love you
So sad.
That’s not Jesus Loves Me – it’s His Eye Is On The Sparrow. She sounds great – looking forward to the movie.
This makes me sad. Her voice was back, her career was popping but her time with us was up.
That’s why we shouldn’t postpone happiness. We never know when it’s time to go. Any decision counts.
Right… I’m watching to th end just to see her sing “Jesus Loves Me”… That’s “his eye is on the sparrow” lol
But Praise the Lord!
Miss u Whitney!
People forget that Whitney was about tone and deliverance as well as extreme power, and tone is what she never lost which made her voice still pleasant and familiar, but i guess people couldn’t move from that and wanted to hear i will always love you in all its glory.
Unfortunately it was her time, she had found her faith and peace and go decided to take her before the devil could get his clutches on her again. R.I.P
SHE WAS DEFINITELY ON HER WAY BACK

That’s not Jesus Loves Me. I think its “His Eye Is On the Sparrow.”
Nobody has life garanteed, but at least we get one more time to hear Whitney’s “mature” voice 🙂
Time does heal all wounds this still seem
like a dream and does not seem real i will
miss Whitney always.
Whitney never lost her ability to sing. Her bronchitis and smoking often intefered but when she was healthy her beautiful tone and her instinctive phrasing always delivered.
What is so sad is that she was on her way back, great reveiws for her acting job in Sparkle, great reviews for her singing, waiting to exhale movie next up, telling clive by aug she would be ready to do a new cd, swimming 2 hrs a day to get her breathing back, telling Clive she would stop smoking and then snatched too song.
I can’t wait to support Sparkle. Whitney,t he greatest singer to pick up a mic!
I have always been inspired by Whitney. She was a gifted women that didn’t compromise her beliefs to gain fame. I admire her for her talents and even in her death I’ve come to learn more about her as a person that has touched me and made me what to change. She had a very giving spirit and forgave so many that mistreated her. Nobody’s perfect, but it takes a peaceful soul to be able to do those things or to even strive for it. I’m glad that I was able to witness so much of Whitney’s life. Whitney means so much to me in more ways than I can explain. Her life has influenced me, I’m sure her death sent a message to the world. She’s not the sole reason why I want to be a better person, but I must say she’s certainly a big factor. She’s one of the few people that I have never met, that have made a difference in my life. I can’t help but think that’s a part of God’s plan. God reasoning for doing what he does is perfect.
R.I.P Nip
I will always love You

IT was amazing how she loved and seemed to have always
Wrapped her arms around other Artists in the Industry.
Whitney sounded amazing, she is one of the most gifted singers to ever grace this planet. I can’t wait to be blessed by her singing in this movie. #WhitWhit
Whitney was singing “His Eye Is on the Sparrow”, Sam, not “Jesus Loves Me”. Don’t you know gospel? That’s like hymn number three in the book.
She sounds amazing. Just like her old self. She definitely got her voice back at the end of her life. This should be how people remember Whitney’s voice changes throughout the years. It lost some of its range, some of the clarity, but still as powerful as ever, and she still has the ability to touch people’s hearts. That’s why she will always be The Voice.
RIP Whitney
I see a Grammy nomination!!!
Can I just point out, for anyone that hasn’t noticed..how she looks like an Angel in the outfit she is wearing at the top. Her voice sounded PHENOMENAL again and it breaks my heart that God said her time here was done. I hope that she has found the peace she always searched for in life. May she sing forever with the Angels in heaven. The Voice will ALWAYS be Whitney Houston as far as I am concerned, and she was clearly on her way back.
So sad to watch her now. I was so excited to see her return to the spotlight! Her old spirit from her earlier days had returned.
Her character’s name in the movie is Emma.
