That Grape Juice Presents: The Spill On…Tweet

Published: Saturday 17th Mar 2012 by Rashad

Ever keen on keeping the masses abreast of fresh and/or often underrated talent, That Grape Juice presents ‘The Spill’ – a renewed look at not-so-new, yet active, acts.  Much like its ‘Freshly Squeezed’ sister segment, this assay aims to put the magnifying glass on talents who may not appeal to the buying public on a broad scale yet are still serving material that could easily spin side-by-side with some of today’s top hits.

Covering a kaleidoscope of genres, ‘The Spill’ is set to feature some names you probably know and love as well as some you’ll (soon) be glad to know.

The last 5 years may have seen the term ‘tweet’ take on a new meaning, but ten years ago superproducer team Timbaland & Missy Elliott unleashed Tweet – the soulful guitarist who, under their wings, served soul, folk, blues, and hip hop blends for all types of fans’ tastes.

Self-branded the ‘southern hummingbird’, it seemed no accident that ‘Oops’, the singer’s first solo single, would find her perched atop R&B and pop charts.

Now, after 2005’s critically acclaimed ‘It’s Me Again’ and a number of buzz singles and guest appearances, the songstress is said to be readying an official LP for release in the coming year.  Until then, her recent offerings have found her playing assistant to sister soulstresses Syleena Johnson (‘Angry Girl’) and now Lil’ Mo.  Get into it after the jump:

And one of our favorite Tweet joints.  The aptly titled ‘Beautiful’ from Southern Hummingbird (2002).

I love Tweet’s voice! I loved her last single she released about two years ago “Love Again.” She had a very distinguished sound and style, I can’t wait for her new album!

Tweet’s first album was a classic. Loved “Turn the lights off” and also “you” off her second album. I need to give that another listen because sometimes it takes a few years to get into genius works.

Her “love, tweet” sampler was also really good. Even some songs on that had to grow on me, but once you really miss an artist and get sick of all of this bull on the radio you can really find the beauty in a real artist’s music. Not sure about her label situation or if she is just afraid to flop, but I hope she releases this album soon.

Probably twice a year she takes to twitter or an interview and says her album is coming that year, but it doesn’t lol.. Her fans will believe it when they see it at this point.

oh and I hope she keeps the hip hop element to her music! Love the mixture of hip hop and soul (neo).

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Tweet and I digs Lil mo but that song is garbage and the video is confusing. They need to take a page from Brandy and Monica’s book of comebacks bc as I already mentioned that song is HORRIBLE!! And Lil Mo’s voice sounds so bad. You wouldn’t think she can blow like she does. I am anxious to see what Tweet is coming out with. I would love to hear some new material from her but it’s GOTTA BE BETTER THAN THIS!!!!!!
