It’s been a minute since we’ve anything from R&B belle Keri Hilson. However, the songbird’s relative silence has not seen her sit dormant. No.
The ‘Pretty Girl Rock’ singer is not only cooking up her third studio album, she’s been tapped to star in a new Vin Diesel movie.

According to Black Film, Hilson will appear alongside action star Diesel in new Sci-Fi Thriller ‘Riddik’. Already in pre-production, shooting for the big budget affair commences later this year.
While Miss Keri’s role is currently unknown, simply being affiliated with the Universal Pictures flick will add grease to her acting elbow. An elbow she’s been flexing quite a lot as of late, after starring in Steve Harvey’s ‘Think Like A Man’.
And though the singer is keen to build her brand beyond her day job, she hasn’t forgotten it. Talking to The BoomBox recently, Hilson dished on the follow-up to 2010’s ‘No Boys Allowed’. Peep an excerpt from their chat below:
“I’ve just been in the studio. I’ve also taken a step back from taking so many shows and accepting every single offer. I wanted to live and experience new things. That’s what I really like to do between every single album. Just take a few months off and live life. I thought it was important to allow my home family and personal relationships to flourish again. Because you can lose a lot of that… you miss a lot of things.
I’m working on a new sound,. I just love to challenge myself. My first two albums to me were incredible. They were a moment in time. ‘In A Perfect World’ was very emotional and tapped into how I was feeling at the time. And my last album, ‘No Boys Allowed,’ that’s how I was feeling at the time as well [laughs]. I was being very territorial, very instructional on how to become a man and what we deserved and demanded as women. The new music has kind of both sides: very emotional, but I’ve also gone through some hurt in the past couple of years. I’ll be explaining some things.”

I have both of Keri’s albums, and they are quite good. She is very fortunate as an artist to have Timbaland and Polow Da Don as executive producers. I don’t think she would be as successful otherwise. Her live performance needs help too. She always comes off as corny to me. She’s not a star, but a talented writer though.

Ok, I have two things to say. First, if you’re gonna compare Keri’s album sales, you have to compare it to an album that was had similar circumstances. ‘Basic Instinct’ received practically no label support and only had one real week of promotion, and that was release week. “No Boys Allowed” had months of promotion, she toured with Lil Wayne, and she still hasn’t gone gold. Stop trying to make Keri seem like a better artist by comparing two very different situations. Second, Keri is a great song-writer and a good singer. Two factors play a major part in her underwhelming success. First, Keri is nothing special. When she debuted she was her own person, and that’s what got people to love her. On her last album though, she tried to become Ciara/Beyoncé/Rihanna all combined into one, and people didn’t buy into it. Keri needs to create her own lane and stay in it. Second, whether she really has an attitude or not, Keri comes off like a stuck up hater. I don’t think she should kiss Bey’s b***, but as far as her ego goes, she definitely needs to come down a few levels. Cockiness is not cute when you don’t have the credentials to back it up.
