Well Madonna isn’t exactly known for her vocal prowess. Bey is a better singer than she is., like way better. Madonna is like Britney. You know, it’s not about the vocals, so much as it is about the performance and the concept. I think it would be a lot easier to be a Madonna impersonator than a Beyonce impersonator. I think people would expect you to sing really really well, if you were impersonating Bey.

There are a lot of reasons why i prefer Rihanna to Beyonce, but at the same time I have no problem acknowledging that Beyonce is a better singer and dancer than Rihanna. I used to think that X-tina was the best vocalist of our generation, but then I saw this youtube clip comparing Bey and X-tina, and it got me thinking. I don’t see why Bey couldn’t have held her own with Whitney in her prime. You really think Bey couldn’t have covered “My Heart Will Go On” or “Vision of Love” or done justice to “I Will always love you?” Beyonce really hasn’t had a great, iconic power ballad, but that may have more to do with the trends in music rather than Beyonce’s vocal prowess.

Some people are confusing having no distinct artistic persona/voice with being “versatile”. Just because Rihanna has songs produced with elements from several genres, does not mean that she does “pop” “reggae” R&B” “rock”, etc. like some amazingly versatile artist. She does have creative input in her visuals and stuff, though, which is good.
Rihanna’s skill is having a serviceable voice that can be put on basically any track without overpowering it or detracting focus from the music.
She’s certainly not horrible, especially compared to other manufactured acts, but she is overrated. She’s good at picking a hot track, staying out of the way on the song, and making people interested in her antics. She’s almost like Madonna, but Madonna had a distinct vision that wasn’t limited to changing hair colors and trying to be a rebel. She also had timeless music, most of which Rihanna’s #1s are not.
…and let’s not with the Beyonce comparisons. Not only are they totally different artists, but anyone with sense can see that the only thing worthy of comparing is pop-chart relevance (as opposed to legacy and indusrtry respect/credibility).

I Love Rihanna, from the moment that Dream said she came up to him at the Grammy’s after she heard a demo of Umbrella which he wrote for Mary J Blige, grabbed his face and said “that song is mine” and then defiently cut all her hair off and died it black in an era where all girls where trying to be the next Beyonce, i knew then that regardless of whether Rihanna is a songwrite or not, this is a young women who is in control of what songs she records and how her image is delt with. I don;t believe there is anyone telling Rihanna what to do, she’s to raw, you can’t make that, thats totally organic, all of her influences from Madonna, to Ragga, are all there in her music shes very diverse and i think people just love her cos she is real, she has the perfect pop voice and by that i mean her tone is unique she does not sound like anyone else and thats part of what makes a great pop artist vocal that individual sound and she can sing very well, i think her last 2 albums especially have been fantastic pop records, and thats why she is doing so well, i’ve grown to respect her more as an artist with each record and she is getting better and better with age
