R&B pin-up Trey Songz has unzipped new single ‘Heart Attack’.
The Rico Love penned / Benny Blanco produced cut is the first to be lifted from the crooner’s forthcoming album ‘Chapter 5’.
Take a listen after the jump…
A solid, but boring R&B affair.
Non-eventful both on the production and vocal ends of the scale, the track (at best) functions as album filler. Indeed, it’s certainly not the kind of track Songz should be serving up as a first single – or a single at all. Although, lyrically, it does point to growth when compared to some of his sex-soaked offerings of old.
Given the cut’s immediate availability on iTunes and Songz’s 5 month hiatus, it’s fair to presume ‘Attack’ is a buzz track. The only problem? It packs no spark.
Dangerous, given the re-sursugence of rival Chris Brown, who is consciously covering all bases (Urban and Pop) this time. Whether Songz will be able to claim back some of his old stomping ground will be interesting to see. He’ll certainly need to lace his boots a bit tighter, as this track simply isn’t it.

I’m sorry but this song Actually has more substance than Chris brown Generic TUPM (you don’t get more generic than that) and Strip (which is actually hot *Hums strip* lol) I don’t like niether Ones a Womanizer and Ones A woman beater
idk I dug it. +written & co-produced by rico love+ industry politics= HIT! i needed a break from at the POP called rnb just cuz the singer is black. smh
I like Trey but this just ain’t cutting it. I’m sick of him sing the same songs with the same lyrics. I mean gosh switch it up why don’t u. I mean look at Chris he talks about different topics. Idk maybe if he switched it up he would be in the same lane as Chris. But then again that takes alot of talent on treys part.
I’m actually GLAD to hear Trey Songz doing what he does best which is singing from the heart, not rapping and not doing the pop stuff. I still thin his 1st album was THE BEST…he had hits on the others, but the 1st album really showed the world who Trey actually is. I will say though, that i think Rico should have given this song to a woman…lol, but all in all I love it. And i don’t even put Chris and Trey in the same category…Chris wants to be Michael & Trey wants to be R. Kelly…now tell me if you’d still compare the two.
I like how the beat has a Pop feel to it, but it is def an R&B song. Not a bad effort. From a first listen I give it 3.5 / 5 stars.
I’m just wondering if a rapper will be added to it, to help it cross over Pop wise/into mainstream. Still coudl see it do well on the R&B/Hip Hop charts.
Trey still got y’all pressed, huh? This song is a HIT! TUTM by CB was completely generic. Anywho… Climax and Heart Attack>>>>> anything CB has put out this era.
I don’t know what y’all are talking about, this song is amazing! Just listen to that chorus and melody. I love it! Production-wise though, it’s alright. I was never a fan of blippy, video game sounding beats,
i like the song, its a lot different than what he usualy makes comparing it with his first 3 albums. i dont think it sounds like something that will be played in the radio & im okay with that. Mainstream SUCKS! it all gets over played. comparing him with chris brown? two different artists here, chris brown is way more mainstream thats why you hear his stuff on the radio even when he first came out, but you havnt heard trey songz on the radio but a hand full of times. trey can sing, he writes his own songs & theyr about things you care about. chris can make good dance beats but who doesnt these days? Trey Songz has the talent & this song proves his flexibility.
Love this!!! Another great hit by Trey Songz! Can’t wait for Chapter V!
I’m wondering where some of you ppl are from…Trey gets radio play NON-STOP in Atlanta….
@ Morgan…you really don’t know what u are talking about…this song is HOTTT and so is Trey… I mean, he is perfect in his genre so why should he change,we love his songs and he keeps us especially me on my toes:) this song is a HIT!!!
Mrs Trey I agree with you, this song is hot. Stop hatin on the brother and give credit where credit is due.
