Watch: Iggy Azalea Gets ‘Complex’ / Talks Men & Music

Published: Tuesday 27th Mar 2012 by David

Whether you like it or not, Iggy Azalea is slowly becoming the breakout act of 2012.

For, with material almost as attention grabbing as her signature look and the backing of Interscope chief Jimmy Iovine, Azalea’s career is looking all kinds of promising.

Now peep her recent shoot with ‘Complex‘ magazine, and find out why she has to say about her ascent below…

Interview below:

Does every rapper you meet hit on you?
People think every guy is trying to get my number. I don’t have people asking for my number every day or even every week. I often meet people in working environments where it’s professional.

Do you like guys who are as sexual as you?
No, they turn me off. I wouldn’t want to date the guy version of me. If I were a man I’d be a womanizer. I like reserved guys. When they give you attention, it makes me think, “Aww, I’m special.”

When do you feel sexy?
There’s sexy and there’s beautiful. Sexy is: I have the power, you want me, and I can fuck around with it. I like that feeling. At home, I want to feel beautiful—not like I’m dominating someone. If I come home dressed like I am in my videos, that would be weird. [Laughs.]

Are Americans uptight about sex?
So much of what I do that’s controversial in America wouldn’t be a big deal back home. America is a highly sexualized society but people are afraid to admit what they like. When people tell me that I have to be sexy that’s demeaning, not powerful.

You’ve been criticized for being overly sexual.
To a lot of people, a powerful, sexy woman is vulgar. When I first came out people said, she only raps about her vagina. I’m not a vagina rapper! [Laughs.] I talk about many other things.

With a song called “Pu$$y” it’s hard not to be considered sexual.
The video for that could’ve been way more sexual. I held back because I didn’t think people could handle it. [Laughs.]

In the “My World” video you dressed up as a cheerleader. That was a short skirt you had on…
I didn’t mean for the skirt to be that short. [Laughs.] I got that off eBay. I knew my ass was hanging out of it but whatever. When we were shooting the video the police were like, “We heard you guys were filming a porno.” They thought we were filming Bang Bus. [Laughs.] I told them, “I’m a sexy boxer lady and these are my two cheerleading friends—this is art, guys!”

she just came into the scene and already her clothes are off. It’s sad to what women have to do now to get notariety. it’s like we’re going backwards. Besides, she’s a rapper, if she’s as good as people say she is, why take anything off?!

  3. TheFame March 27, 2012

  7. nikoyuki March 27, 2012

She will be anyother one ueing her body/looks to get her far. Their is no need to be topless/half naked alreadly. She’ll learn when the only time Ppl want to see her is when she is halfnaked. Or when comments start to say she needs to do a sextape and stop rapping

    Like her and her attitude.

Lol at someone who’s a Lil Kim fan saying anything about anyone else being half naked or rapping about s**, you can really tell when someone has decided not to like someone.

I think women have every right in the world to define and explore their own sexuality. The rap game is messed up because often women do it exclusively to appeal to a male audience and get that attention. A woman can be absolutely naked in a rap video so long as she’s popping it behind a male rapper. I know the cheerleader outfit was short but it wasn’t even that s***, funny how it gets brought up but the outfits other girls wear…. So long as she’s a ‘video ho-fessional’ and moaning behind a man it’s cool. LMAO.

I like her honesty. You can be in charge of your sexuality but not controlled by it, she seems like she’s about her business and if she’s smart she’ll make it far in the game.in the end women have to be women and be who they want to be and not try to fulfill what everyone else says they should be to make the criteria.
