New Song: Jason Derulo – ‘Undefeated’

Surely on recovery road, ‘In My Head’ hitmaker Jason Derulo is still regularly heading to the studio to put the finishing touches on his forthcoming album ‘Undefeated’.  Set to follow the critically acclaimed ‘Future History’, Derulo has hit headlines recently more for his near-paralyzing neck injury and relationship with Jordin Sparks than his own hits.

A recent partnership with Coca Cola may be set to change that…

Taking to American Idol to debut his latest, fan written single ‘Undefeated’, the song undoubtedly takes on double meaning for Derulo.  Get into the track below and sound off:

“Another black artists doing dance/pop. No thanks.”

So black artist are only suppose to sing R&B or hip-hop songs? That was probably the most ignorant comment I’ve read ever on the internet, ever. Lol I hope you look outside of your little box one day. So sad.

Yes, actually, black artists SHOULD largely partake in black-dominated music genres (R&B, Hip Hop…or Jazz and Gospel.) I’m not feeling seeing so many people of color lately coming out with music that sounds like it was fished out of Katy Perry’s toilet.

      • meeka May 23, 2012

Why can’t black artists be different and do electro-pop? Many white artists have tapped into r&b, jazz, blues, & rock n roll music but it’s wrong for black artists to experience different sounds in their music. I’m glad some of these black artists are using their common sense and cashing in on something that white artists have been doing for a long time when it comes to our music.

How dare you have the ignorance to think you can decide what type of music anyone should be making? The only music an artist “should” be making is the music they enjoy to create. If dance music is truly what Jason (as opposed to his record label) wants to make, then he is entitled to do that.

Haven’t black people been through enough without setting boundaries for ourselves now?

    • UnMutedOne May 23, 2012

Jason can make whatever kind of music he wants, but the black media (BET, black radio, black award shows, black publications, blogs, etc., etc.) shouldn’t feature or give him press and support for as long as he continues to do dance/electropop and other music clearly not aimed at a black demographic.

Furthermore, when this pop s*** finally plays out, Jason better not all of the sudden decide to turn to black folks for support with R&B/Hip Hop music. If you’re building your career catering to white/pop suburbanites, then play the part to completion and when that well runs dry, don’t try to “come home,” so to speak.

      • j May 23, 2012

So you are saying black people can’t listen or like dance/electropop?!? This is the most ignorant comment I have heard!!! Step out of your bubble and ignorance and realize that music of any genre knows no color.

      • TIMMI May 23, 2012

So this is why I’m confused. Everyone is happy to support Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Usher, Chris Brown (need I go on?) when they make dance/electropop music to cater for the white folk but when Jason does it, it’s a problem. If you don’t like him/his music, just be real about it instead of subconsciously making whack complaints about what he is doing and sounding hypocritical. I don’t like nor listen to Jason Derulo’s music and it’s as simple as that. I’m not going to sit and b**** about him when he’s doing the same thing every other black artist out there is doing.

In response to your second paragraph, perhaps if black folk were so supportive of “R&B/Hip Hop music” as you seem to think so, black artists would never have turnt to dance/electropop in the first place. Did you ever think about that?
