Last night, Rap’s brightest export Nicki Minaj performed at Wango Tango, a day long concert held by LA’s KIIS FM.
Serving up a set of her best numbers, which include ‘Did It On ‘Em’ and ‘Roman Holiday’, the MC delivered what we’d say one of her better performances, armed with the structure her set on ‘American Idol‘ lacked back in April.

Initially, when hearing ‘Roman Reloaded’,we weren’t sure why Minaj would opt for a Hip Hop heavy top half when its bottom half was her ticket to Hot 100 glory.
However, after this performance we see why.
By positioning herself as a Rapper, Minaj swerves out of RiKatyGaGa‘s way and enters a lane small enough for her to dominate but wide enough to catch the mainstream’s attention.
In essence, Minaj becomes a platinum coin in a box full of plastics- ‘different’ when compared to her Pop contemporaries by way of sound and approach and ‘superior’ when compared to her Rap rivals by way of commercial pull and creativity.
Creativity, which allows Minaj to serve a Hip Hop show to audiences otherwise ‘turned off’ by the genre, because of her slightly misleading Pop package.

If this is true, then that’s a smart move. Otherwise I prefer the top half of the album, the rest is crap. I like techno, but the songs from PFRL just gave me a headache.

*nicki slam dunks* another great show she put on.. I love her album it’s number 5 in the iTunes hiphop/rap section and with a overall rating of 4 stars which is good I just prefer 5stars Cus all the songs on that album is radio friendly.

Sam, you haven’t said anything new. We have all said that Nicki is holding on to the rap title because she can’t compete with the true pop stars.
As far as her bringing hip hop to an audience that would otherwise be turned off, she didn’t have to sell out to pop music to do that. Two words: Kanye and Jay-Z.
She knows she’s losing her credibility as a rapper, so she opted to do all hip hop songs. But in no way was this her intent when she was recording her album.
I like her when she’s rapping live but not singing. This performance had a little more energy than she did in her other performances.

Nicki went hard & brang her A-Game in this performance, This performance slays all the lackluster “starship” promo performances on american idol and s***. Nicki expiremented with Pink Friday Roman Reloaded and wanted to push her limits.She isn’t transforming herself into a popstar, at the end of the day she DA BADDEST FEMALE RAPPER IN THE GAME. Nick the only female rapper in the TOP TEN on ITUNES & the only female rapper dominating the radio and breaking records. She DEF in da #HOVLANE. I think Nicki can spit but I wish she would work on dominating the rap lane. Leave pop alone.
