The Billboard Charts are glowing pink and orange this week.
Find out why after the jump…
Frank Ocean (and Def Jam) will no doubt be smiling this week after the singer’s ‘Channel Orange’ LP flew straight in at #2 on the Billboard 200. Selling through 131,000 copies in its premiere week, the feat is notable not so much for the numbers, but more the context in which they were achieved.
For, following the ample interest in Ocean’s truth-baring letter, the album was released to iTunes a week before its original store date – resulting in its sales being almost entirely of the digital persuasion. Retailers were urged to begin selling the CD as soon as they received physical copies (and some did, contributing to the 3000 copies tallied in this week’s count); the vast majority – however – adhered to the original date of July 17th. Needless to say, Ocean should sail fairly easily towards solid second week sales.
Whether he’ll be able to earn the #1 that Country act Zac Brown Band denied him (after selling 234,000 of their ‘Uncaged’ LP) this week next week will be interesting to see.

Meanwhile on the singles front, Pop rebel Pink rocketed a whopping 58-9 on the Billboard Hot 100 with ‘Blow Me (One Last Kiss)’. The attitude-soaked cut, which serves as the lead single from the star’s upcoming LP, ‘The Truth About Love’ (due September 18th), has only been on the chart for two weeks, yet already earns the honor of being her 12th top ten hit on that tally.
In light of this, the 33 year old places third on the list of ‘Most top 10’s among women since the turn of the new millenium – with only Rihanna (22) and Beyonce (14) besting her. (She tramples the 11 top 10’s earned by Lady Gaga and Katy Perry in the same window).
And as if that wasn’t enough to trumpet, ‘Blow’ boasts the largest leap into the Hot 100’s top 10 since Drake and Nicki Minaj‘s ‘Make Me Proud’ bolted 97-9 last November.
The song is also the chart’s top Digital and Airplay Gainer; on Digital Songs, it also lunges 41-4 with a 259% increase to 171,000 downloads sold.
(Elsewhere, Carly Rae Jepsen‘s ‘Call Me Maybe’ holds at #1 for its sixth week, while Maroon 5‘s ‘Payphone’ sticks at #2. Rihanna‘s moderate hit ‘Where Have You Been’ also maintains at #6 – slipping slighting from its #5 peak).

Fairly epic feats on both fronts. In an industry thirsty for commercially viable “quality”, it’s great to see it manifest in the succeses of two uberly talented artists. Amazing, in fact.
good job pink, i don’t like the song that much, but it is starting to grow on me. i am still amped for her album and i absolutely love her album cover.
CONGRATS TO EVERYONE!
The US Charts are so predictable.
Im glad they are achieving success on billboard they are both REAL artist
Congrats to Pink. The vid is not even out yet and thats what i really wanna see. U know she never dissapoints on that front.
Im happy for Frank too. He deserves it solely based on the brilliance of his album. I hope he even goes on to do Adele numbers. He carved out his own sound already. He can sell accordingly.
And YASS for the Queen Bey. I dint know exactly how many top 10 hits she had but i know in the last decade (00 -09) she racked up the most top 5, top 10 and top 40 tallies than any other female artist and tied for most no 1s (5) with Rihanna …. With just 3 studio albums. 🙂
lmfao… mos ttop 5’s where hunny bunn?
check rihs credentials again… she best all beys records
minus beys number of grammys and #1 albums… granted her number one albums wernt record breaking….
not hating as i love bey… but lets not reach too high
we already know the singles queen…
hows it that rihanna has 11 #1 and not have more top 5 than beyonce?… rih has around 13 top 5s
Pls shut up u moron. I said in the last decade btw 2000- 2009. Billboard laid her achievements out. Im not interested in Rihanna so tout that somewhere else.
Rihanna has more top 10s then her, thats all I know, but congrats on Bey’s top fives!
Rihanna really her dried up ass career is f****** done her pot head
I’m so ready for album 5!!!!! I predict at the least 3 top ten reccords!!! #Back2Business
I hope your not talking about bey,
she’ll be lucky for 2.
Psh! You peasants have just gotten out of order since Bey took her break! No worries. When the Queen is #Back2Business with #RoundV you will bow down! And you’ll be lucky if she don’t get 2 #1
Glad Zac Brown kept that Queerosexual from #1
And that’s no lie. Now we go Queen Drake on Frank’s d***. I tell you people this is the year for the gay men to control the music industry.
I bought the Zac Brown LP – REALLY good
Nas ‘ Life is good’ was my fave album that was released this week
I download Nas CD this morning. I really like it much better than Frank’s old soul CD. My sister download Channe Orange for our mother
No one don’t have time for you @SBC!
Big country stars always have a loyal fan base!!! Country music sales!!!
R&B isn’t entirely dead!!! Frank Ocean debuted higher than Usher, based off of digital sales ALONE!!!! That says a lot!!! I’m glad that Frank has gotten recognition he deserved after so many years.
A lot of haters are going to gag on this fact and I hope they choke to death!!!!
So what? He only barely topped Usher; the same Usher who is 20 years into his career. He’s peaked. Happens to everybody. Being a Janet Jackson fan, you should know that.
When Frank can top (or at least match) Usher’s Confessions era…his My Way era…his 8701 era…or even his Here I Stand/Raymond v. Raymond era’s, then come back and we’ll compare notes. Until then you clowns don’t get to have it both ways. You don’t get to come on here and congratulate Frank for similar numbers that you snicker at people like Usher and Chris for having.
And that “Country music has a big fan base” excuse is a crock of s***. Zac Brown released an album with no gimmicks, no proclamations, no celebrity endorsements, no being hailed up as a light in the tunnel for some disenfranchised special interest group…and basically little mainstream promotion, and still managed to hand Frank his ass. Country music fans don’t get credit added to their life insurance for being loyal to their favorite artists. If artists of other genres can’t or don’t inspire their fans to be equally as loyal, then that’s their fault. Frank doesn’t get a pass for it.
You sound as if you are jealous of Frank but then again I have noticed that fans of other artists mainly Chris Brown and some of Usher who seems the most pressed about what Frank has and will accomplish because of his talent.
You sound like a stan.
No I don’t sound as if I’m jealous; when it’s all broken down there’s nothing to be jealous of. First of all, I’m not a fan of either Chris Brown or Usher. I merely rationalized what was said about Usher’s sales in comparison’s to Frank’s; pointing out that Frank’s numbers weren’t significantly better. Second of all, Frank didn’t break any sales records and he didn’t top any chart…so even if I were a fan of Usher or Chris, what’s to be jealous of? He only barely etched out Usher’s opening week #’s, but he didn’t beat out his real competitor this week (Zac Brown) and in the meantime he hasn’t scored a real hit that can be compared to “Scream” or “Climax.” And he didn’t outperform Chris’s sales and hasn’t had a hit as big as “Turn Up the Music.” So what exactly did Frank do that outshone them…or anyone, really? The only thing Frank did was get off to a better start than it seemed like he would have a month ago. *shrugs*
Furthermore, Frank isn’t accomplishing anything because of his “talent”. We wouldn’t even be having this conversation if Frank hadn’t used a stunt to introduce his album to the public. He’s all gimmick and hype.
Furthermore, Frank isn’t accomplishing anything because of his “talent” but of him coming out the closet. That’s right coming out the closet is what Frankie boy accomplished. Funny how you people used other artists to boost Frank up, which the only thing you should be boosting is him coming out the closet.
Pink hasn’t even did massive promo yet, and still snatched all my faves and yours faves bald.
Good for everyone! Y’all shading Rihanna when her single has charted higher than all your faves. Hilarious!
Rihanna‘s moderate hit ‘Where Have You Been’
… LOL
At least Rih WHYB has been in the top in EVERY country. Where is Rita Ora?
What did RIP, How we do and Party do around the world?
is this why Rita Ora is releasing a second single – one which NO ONE HEARD?
R.I.P was only released in Europe you dumb c***. How We Do was only released in America and has yet to released to mainstream radio. It will be #1 on the Dance/Club Play chart on Thursday. You tried, thirsty b****
You stupid, wrinkle stutty c*** ( rita, is that u? ) Rip was released in Europe – Flop.
Hot right now has been released in Australia, Europe – FLOP and I do not think they would waste time releasing in the US.
So what is she is number 1 on the dance chart? How big is that chart? Not big. Even number 1 on the HIP HOP charts does not equate a number in America. Kylie Minogue is in the chart and she cannot break america ( shame )
Rita is moving on the her second single in the USA, WHY?
You tried, failed and was conquered, you thirsty ugly b****.
Rihanna slays
HOW WE DO has been on mainstream radio since Feb. Z100 is the biggest mainstream radio in NEW YORK and jay z took rita to debut the song. This was in feb’. Rita has been to every pop radio station in America – most. All over the country. She has even been on Power 105, HOT 97 and few other top urban stations.
She even performed on GOOD MORNING AMERICA ON ABC – AND HER SINGLE was went to 65 after that performance.
She is an ugly wack ,basic b****.
@Kelly If I remember correctly Beyonce’s first single (work it out) only charted well in the UK, and Flopped hard everywhere else, then came Crazy In Love and she’s been the baddest b**** in the game since…whats to say the same wont happen to Rita?
Congrats to everyone. Credit is certainly due to Frank, he made a huge impact with his words & his music. People will remain respecting him for that. Also congrats to p!nk one of my favorites! Now let’s get to the grape juice of things, you calling Rihanna’s Where Have You been a moderate hit just makes you look even more foolish than you already do with the shade. You are always here for Kelly, Brandy, & Ciara. And don’t get me wrong I love them all, BUT you constantly disrespect Rihanna. She is a hard worker, she is beautiful, & she has loads of talent so I don’t understand where your constant disrespect comes from. This song was one of the biggest hits of the year, not a moderate one. It was huge & a top #5 single with tons of airplay, massive promotional performances, a great music video. She really up’d her game recently if you watch her festival performances. I’m not just saying that cuse I love her. Stop with the shade. I haven’t seen Kelly, Ciara, or Brandy with a top 10 in quite sometime. And you act like Fourtune’s sales are good, but Talk That Talk is a flop. Talk That Talk slayed all of your favorites this year & had tons of longevitiy. Thanks sam. Bye.
the beyhive wont like this…. prepare for the hate.
Owen didn’t say a d*mn thing about Bey…You reaching.
So after all that gay thing, Frank ocean did not dell 300k and debut at number 1?
Oh dearey me!
LMFAO
Frank did quite well, but using his s**-gender as a reason to bolt sells is mere weak,,,
Madonna failed in the charts but beat out everybody up just by doing concerts $42 million.
R. Kelly will do the same, or about $15 Million on touring alone.
Its just not the sold CD’s, its the performance of showmanship that gets you paid in music.
Congrats to everyone! Though I would like to point out while you call Where Have You Been a moderate hit. How We Do (Party) is struggling to reach the top 50.
’Most top 10′s among women since the turn of the new millenium’
I love Rihanna, but that isn’t a list or any sort of acheivment. We Rihanna stans do not settle for “of this millenium” awards” we will only settle for “ever” awards.
And Mariah better watch out before Rihanna snatches that #1 hot 100 weave.
YASSSS
Um…NOBODY had a bigger week than Zac Brown Band, so where is the article all about them and their album??? Why is the only mention of them here talking about how how they “denied” Frank Ocean the top spot?????
Bias!!!
Frank is an attention h**. Zac brown will be making his money anyway whoever/wherever he is.
How We Do(Party) rises 2-1 on the Dance/Club Play chart
The dance chart? Woop de woo! And where is the song – which has been out for 2 MONTHS , and jay z took her to z100 back in FEB – where is that heavily promoted song on Billoard what 100?
WHERE?
It wasnt released until March 20th. Sit your simple ass all the way down
rITA sLAYS,
You ugly nasty section 8 b****. Cher Lloyd who has LA reid – the REAL brains behind rihana, has JUMPED IN TO THE TOP 10. CHER LLOYD IS ON COURSE TO GET A NUMBER 1 ( GOOD WORK LA REID, AS want you back was a flop in the Uk, get it Rita Ora?
Cher’s song came out AFTER Rita, and had little money; she has not even appeared on American TV.
She will appear on AGT on NBC watch her go number 1.
LOL LOL Cher lloyd must be tweeting each other MAKING FUN of Wrinkle Ora.
LMFAO!!!!!! Yass b****, write multiple posts about me!!! You love just as much as you love Rita <3
Just because Z100 premired How We Do doesnt mean it has been serviced to mainstream radio you dumb dusty c***. It has only been released to contemporary radio, not top 40. And a GMA perfromance is hardly promotion you basic b****. Look at the promo Katy did for I Kissed Girl, the promo Ke$ha did for Tik Tok and the promo Gaga did for Just Dance (all released to mainstream radio) and tell me if Rita's can compare.
And how is R.I.P a flop in Europe when it debuted at #1 on the biggest chart in the continent? LMFAO, you tried again and failed.
P.S How We Do is top 10 in Australia and New Zealand and Rita hasnt stepped foo over there 😀 You mad h**?
And DEAD @ you bringing up Cher Lloyd’s untalented ass. LMFAO!!!!! Go listen to the new Friday Swagger Jacker!
wrinkle ora is get her wig snatched by teenage cher lloyd
LMAO @ Rihanna’s moderate hit Where Have u Been??? Yall some shady bitter queens on here.
