Tonight marks the return of BET’s highly anticipated ode to women of color ‘Black Girls Rock’.
Much like its ‘BET Honors’ counterpart, the event is set to showcase some of music’s best and brightest performers to serenade and shine light on women of color who have made impacts on their respective personal and professional communities.
Airing moments ago, the Tracee Ellis Ross / Regina King – hosted showing, taped October 13 at New York City’s Loews Paradise Theatre, honored actress Kerry Washington (‘Scandal’) and songstresses Alicia Keys and Dionne Warwick as well as featured performances from the likes of Ciara, Brandy, Keyshia Cole, India Arie and more.

If you were watching tonight, which you probably weren’t, you would know that the idea of this movement is for black women to promote uplift and acknowledge their positive contributions to community and to be proud of who they are as no other outlet uplifts black women like they uplift white women.
Beverly Bond spoke on the importance of teaching young women their value and their talent, how there is more to black girls than what is below their waists, and more than the negative stereotypical images the media portrays of black women and black girls. The sad thing is in your ignorance and blind worship of Rihanna and Nicki, you want those stereotypes reinforced. Rihanna and Nicki are NOT ROLE MODELS nor do they provide anything relevant to the black community accept for their ass, tits, and dried up lose boxes. They aren’t even talented. I don’t care what anybody says Brandy’s performance was boring like she is a great singer but i’ve seen better performances of WD (I love brandy btw so dont come for me)
Keyshia coles performance was boring too but she sounded really good her voice improved a lot (I like keyshia so dont try it)
Alicia keys sounded ok it was forgettable (B**** fell off)
Ciara was very entertaining( i didnt say the b**** voice was just outstanding so chill the f*** out) But she just had the best performance she gave a great show

ok at firt i was mad that all yaull kept saying ciara was not singing liv but i watched iton here i see why u guys said that, the soundis coming before the actual movement of her lips and body. which happens alot with recordings
however i watched the ontv sunday and she sang life
and she KILLED IT, to death
