The online arena has been buzzing today in the wake of comments made by American Idol alum Fantasia surrounding Gay marriage.
As reported by She Is Diva, the 27 year old wrote on Instagram (in an apparent response to critics of her own colorful personal life):
“I Rise ABOVE IT ALL!!! THE WORLD IS GONE MAD. KIDS, THE GOVERNMENT, THE church House… Everybody Trying!!!!!!! Its a lot that going on that the Bible speaks about we should Not be doing. Weed legal in some places, Gay Marriage Legal BUT YET IM JUDGED!! Im not doing Nothing for you… My Life!!!!”
Naturally, this led to a backlash of Biblical proportions – with some sects Christening the mother of two a bigot.
However, the singer has responded insisting that there is no need for the negativity as her comments were simply taken out of comments.
Her words after the jump…
Via Instagram:
“It has been brought to my attention that something I said was taken out of context. I Fantasia Monique Barrino don’t judge anyone because I don’t want to be judged. The gay community is one of my largest supporters. I support the gay community as well as they support me. Bloggers please stop misrepresenting the facts.”
We actually agree that Fantasia’s words were taken out of context – easy given the generally unclear phrasing. However, this is yet more proof that Pop stars should avoid the political and simply focus on their craft.
Fantasia has a new single out and an album on the way; press of this nature is not at all needed. Hence, with this one, she has only herself to blame. Addressing “the haters” is so 2000-and-late anyway.
Here’s hoping she’s learnt her “lesson” and comes out of this unscathed. For, regardless of any drama, she remains one of the industry’s most gifted talents.
