Watch: Jamelia Rocks ‘Stop’ On ‘The X Factor Ukraine’

Published: Sunday 30th Dec 2012 by David

It’s been a while, but if industry murmurs are anything to go by- 2013 may see the chart return of ‘Beware Of The Dog‘ singer Jamelia.

So, in what can only feed such rumors, last night saw the star arrive on ‘The X Factor Ukraine’ to perform her cover of Sam Brown‘s ‘Stop’- making for a spectacular watch.

Of course, though we were hoping she’d perform a new cut, we’d be lying if we said we weren’t wowed by what she did do.

If Jamelia is plotting a come back, here’s hoping 2013 will see her enlist a management team and label with enough ‘pull’ to force her back into the UK scene.

Sure, while it’s all too easy to forget, her run at the top saw her tackle Adult Contemporary in ways we see Emeli Sande soaring with now. It’s for this that if armed with the right writers- the MNEK‘s, Fraser T Smith‘s and Paul Epworth‘s of the world- she could find herself scoring an era far more groundbreaking than the one’s before.

Damm look at her nappy hairline, I knew she was from the UK by the look of her hairline. No black american singer would be caught dead in public with a nappy hair line.

Y’all in the UK do know how to relax the naps from your hairline? DANG! I be she did not make it in the UK and i am 100% sure she will not make it in the USA. Ugly girl with bad voice and nappy hairline. NAH, we do not check for that in the USA

All the women here are not slaves to the perm kit. I’m not sure why you’re saying “nappy” as if a black persons natural hair is a bad thing!

      • nicky December 31, 2012

why you’re saying “nappy” as if a black persons natural hair is a bad thing! REAL TALK ! 😀

    • Does she really want this? December 30, 2012

No. They’d rather lose their hairline altogether.

      • PSA (FAF) December 30, 2012

Rihanna hair is nappy, tho .. didn’t she tell some white b**** on twitter her hair was nappy with the shaved side “because I’m BLACK, B****!” or some ignorant s*** like that ? With R**** as an idol, no wonder you’re so self-hating and with low self esteem !

She had one hit, “Superstar”, and then she released an American sounding “Thank you” and that was it for her career.

She looked good but sounded just okay, a bit off a few times. Things have moved on since the left the scene. but good luck to her because she had some tunes back in the day and i’m not doing to put a dark skinned sister who’s singing down

she looks good to me. and her hair looks real .

  5. The Female MJ (Beyonce’s Weave) December 30, 2012

LOL, the UK is unkind to its black artists, I mean when I look at this list, Samantha Mumba, Jamelia, Shola Ama, Beverly Knight, Alexandra Burke, Craig David, Eternal and now Leona Lewis, I’m reminded of how unkind the UK is to its black artists.

Then again the black singers bring it upon themselves. After they do well, they try to be American by releasing American type music, which then alienates their core fan-base in the UK. The fan base then moves on and the artist disappears forever. So ya, they have no one to blame but themselves.

    • Dev December 30, 2012

      Examples of releasing American music?

      • Truth Tea December 30, 2012

Please, Thank You was bigger than Superstar. I’m not sure what you mean by “American” sounding. She started off as an Aaliyah wannabe with “I Do”, less we forget. That 90’s R&B was always her sound.

Usually, if your single is good enough for America, it’s good enough for the rest of the world [also, Beverly Knight tried too hard — she never matured Deborah C** — by the time she is 04’s Affirmation, they were giving her album away for free in the US with the iPod release to break her into a ‘younger’ market].

      • The Female MJ (Beyonce’s Weave) December 30, 2012

So why were they dropped? It means they had no hits. Superstar was a bigger hit than Thank you. Jamelia, Samantha Mumba, Alexandra Burke and especially Leona Lewis had the potential to be MASSIVE, why did they flop?? Why were they dropped??

Their sound started sounding too American. They stopped working with their British Producers and were flying to America to work with American producers, which changed their sound, a sound their fan base is not used to and now they are nowhere.

They should take lessons from Cheryl Cole, she doesn’t try to break the American market because she knows her core fan base is in EU, she is a smash in the EU and doesn’t try to break other markets. Cheryl Cole was on an Arena tour in the UK, where her core fan base is.

      • Jeff December 30, 2012

Alexandra’s first album was American and european producers, Leona’s mainly American, Samantha Mumba’s the same. Music is music regardless so this comment is kinda silly. Cheryls last album and first had U.S producers so i dont get your point.

    • lisa December 30, 2012

Please shut up they can create any music they like depending on their influences, the world is a small place.

  6. Carl December 30, 2012

So much hate towards Jamelia lol, her hair is real as she said she’d stop wearing weave after finding out where it comes from. She’s a pretty girl so no one can ever call her a nappy head. People on this site are just sad and need to get jobs, projecting so much hate towards people that will never know of their existence. Overall the performance was good just a couple rough notes.

    • PSA (FAF) December 30, 2012

YESSSSSSSSSSS! When ur hair is real u can have naps ! Their fave could never slay in their own hair !

  7. j December 30, 2012

    I love jamelia!!

see it in a boys eyes, superstar & THANK YOU where my favorites

  8. Jaime B December 30, 2012

I’ve NEVER commented on this site before but I just have to say that you people are sad and pathetic. This woman is GORGEOUS. I do not like the song very much, and I think her voice is just okay. However, you people saying she’s “ugly” and has “bad hair”, and shouldn’t dare “set foot in america” are ignorant, sad, and disgusting. And being that most ( if not all) of you are black people yourselves, your just showing hate for yourselves and your own people. Go to school, read a book, turn off the t.v., put down the pizza, and go work out. Maybe then you’ll build some self esteem, and will know how blessed and beautiful you are despite the color of your skin or texture of your hair. Maybe then you will have something else to do besides bash other people from behind a computer screen. Its about to be 2013- get a life.
