Weigh In: Keyshia Cole’s Twitter Rampage Against Radio Station (Right Or Wrong?)

Published: Wednesday 19th Dec 2012 by Rashad

Once again the popular social media outlet Twitter has proven itself a battleground for ‘Trust & Believe’ belter Keyshia Cole.  As some know, the past two days have seen the Oakland born beauty on the defense after she launched a verbal attack against KMEL 106 – a Californian radio station.

The station, which sponsors the annual holiday-themed showing ‘Holiday House of Soul Concert’, reportedly contacted the songstress to inform her she would be the opening act for up-and-coming R&B hitmaker The Weeknd.  The result of which saw Cole, who previously believed she was the headliner, cancel her appearance at the concert.

When rumors swirled that the radio station continued to use Cole’s likeness in advertisements (despite her cancellation), what happened next saw the ‘Let It Go’ hitmaker go on a rampage via her Twitter page:

Via Keyshia Cole’s Twitter:

EVERY F-CKING YEAR I do something major for my city! @KMEL has the nerve to tell me at the last minute they want me to open for the Weeknd. Then @106kmel tells us at last minute if I don’t then there’s no show! Then still uses my name when I refuse! I feel so f-cking disrespected.

And now people in Oakland think I Flaked!!! #STRAIGHTBULLSH-T! The only reason I’m speaking, don’t people thinking i flaked.”

The singer continued stating:

The Twitter rant prompted the radio station to respond by reportedly telling TMZ:

“We were surprised to see Keyshia Cole’s Tweets the night of our show as she was never scheduled to be the show’s final act.  When we were notified a week before her performance that she planned to cancel, we immediately removed her name from all advertising and promotion and offered refunds to those fans who requested.”

‘Birthday Sex’ singer Jeremih was called in to replace Cole.  So you tell us:

I feel like she shouldn’t have done that because it makes her come off as bitter…I like Keyshia cole but gotta be honest you haven’t been hot since 09 it’s time for a change..

    • ,. December 20, 2012

What,so she should just roll over, because of what the grain might say about her if she stand on her own feet stand up for her self when she have bin disrespected, she should just be fake and hind how she really felt and let it slide over and over again…..sigh someone like you wouldn’t last in this game for a day, them sharks would have rip you apart bell.

      @Monstarebel

Wasn’t you on here saying she was the “It” r&b girl in the industry. Boy does times change…. u stay contradicting yourself! She does deserve to headline she have several platinum albums & #1 r&b songs.

These celebrities shoulda never got a Twitter account they don’t be knowing how to act. ..

  3. nunya December 19, 2012

She needs to HUMBLE herself. It’s not like her ‘star’ is shining as bright right now as it was years ago. She comes off like she is Bee, Whitney H or Mariah. I can see THEM being like HELL NO! I WILL NOT OPEN for the weekend, but Keyshia Cole? Um no. I love you but you should have went for your fans instead of dropping out because of your ego.

  4. WhoNeedsADegreeWhenYourShadingLife December 19, 2012

She was a little extreme with it, but yeah I wouldn’t want to open for some one when I’ve put out 5 albums and sold millions compared to someone who isn’t fully establish yet. No shade, I love the weekend but we haven’t got a full album with material yet just some remastered mixtapes. She said she wasn’t mad about opening for them though. But for whatever reason she cancelled, if true, they should’ve took her off and not use her to promote their show. People are going to get made at her!!! not the radio station.

  6. @_NoFucksGiven_1 December 19, 2012

    Keyshia you were right…

  7. Gilberto December 19, 2012

I understand her point. Keyshia Cole has been on the industry for almost a decade, had hit albums and singles, she has a solid career. She’s a veteran. They’re very disrespectful to make Keyshia open a show for a rookie like Weeknd who debuted a few months ago! It’s like if they asked Madonna to open Lady Gaga’s first tour.

    • Monstarebel December 19, 2012

your right I think people forget Keyshia has 3 platinum albums & 7number 1s on the R&B &Hip Hop charts…

  8. CHUDDS December 19, 2012

Her ghetto ass rant aside, she had some valid points. Why would a platinum selling artist who’s been in the game for 8 years open for a newbie? I like The Wknd, but he should’ve been opening for Keyshia.

  9. DD1G December 19, 2012

Keyshia is not the one to mess with.

apparently she’s alos not the one to book as a main attraction either booboo! they play her lololol!!!!

  10. BISH PLEASE December 19, 2012

Keisha Cole need to sit her funky ass ALL the way down. This b**** has a history of being a lessor that THINKS she’s great. How about her trying to shade Janet Jackson during a radio interview a few years back when asked what she thinks of her music. This late h** had the nerve to say “WHO?…..I DONT LISTEN TO JANET JACKSON.” you really think you are the voice of a generation but you really are just the product of an absentee father and crackhead mother. Her attitude sucks just about as bad, if not worse than her music and she should be glad anyone even THINKS of her when they think of a female singer to ask to perform cuz she DAMN SURE aint on my radar. I’m not even gonna GET INTO her comment about doing black girls rock and “NOT BEING BLACK” I really cant with this rat-a-tat-tatchet broad. *drops mic* *walks off stage*

    • ADC143 December 19, 2012

      You sound bitter.

      • Bish Please December 19, 2012

Chile please. Ms. Chitlin Circuit Cole has me neither pressed nor parched boo. I’m just tired of her egocentric antics and ridiculous comments both about the black community to which SHE DOES BELONG and the disrespect she dishes out to others. Im also tired of her LATE ASS FAMILY that clearly need Iyanla to fix ALL their lives. Never bitter. Fed up, YES.

    • lola December 19, 2012

      Bish Please,
You should shut your funky mouth up! So what if she does not listen to Janet’s music. Not everyone is going to be a fan of hers or like her. Janet is old, washed up and pathetic anyway. Plus, about the black comment, she may be half white so in her mind she was wondering if she could participate something that is supportive of “only” black women. She was confused… there was nothing wrong with her comment.

      • ANTHONY December 20, 2012

IT THE POINT EVERYONE HEARD OF JANET JACKSON…IF SHE DIDNT LISTEN TO JANET HER MOTHER OR SISTER LISTEN TOO HER, PLUS THE JACKSONS BEEN APART OF MY GRANDMOTHER, MOTHER, FATHER, BROTHERS AND SISTER GENERATION,SO FOR HER TO SAY WHO IS A PROBLEM…KEYSHIA BBEN IN THE GAME LESS THAN 10 YEARS…AND THE JACKSONS IN THE BUSINESS SINCE KIDS…NOW WHERE WILL KEYSHIA BE IN THE NEXT 3YRS.

YOU would think its cute b****

  14. ADC143 December 19, 2012

Meh. I guess it was disrespectful and she has a point, but in the end who cares? This gig strikes me as being very minor anyway. Headlining some local radio station’s one night concert event isn’t something to pop a artery over. Keyshia’s management should do better when it comes to bookings. In the meantime it’s the concert goers who will wind up short sticked, since most were probably going to see Keyshia, not Weeknd.

    • CzarM December 20, 2012

“In the meantime it’s the concert goers who will wind up short sticked, since most were probably going to see Keyshia, not Weeknd.”
      ____________________

That’s probably why she’s upset. The radio station was obviously in cahoots with Weeknd’s team to use this event to boost his profile, while attempting to exploit Keyshia’s name and manipulate her bigger fan base into coming out to see a show that in the end would have promoted more of him than her. So she cancels her appearance and they keep her name on the bill to trick her fans into still showing up; and when they get there what happens? They leave pissed, thinking that she skipped out them after they paid to see her.

The radio station was very shady. Not only was sneakily trying to have Keyshia open for newbie Weeknd disrespectful to her as an established act with a bigger fan base, but not taking her name off the program after she cancelled threatened to make her look bad to her unknowing fans.

I hate Twitter and think that the emphasis this generation of celebrity puts on it to promote themselves is a f****** joke–seriously, I’d like to think that my favorite celebrities had more important things to do with their time than to tweet a bunch of nonsense like some bored teenager–but in this case I guess it was useful.

  15. lola December 19, 2012

This Twitter thing has gotten out of control, but I find it funny how hardly anyone gets angry or annoyed at Rihanna’s childish Twitter rants and her immature, naked pics she posts on Twitter. I feel like Keyshia should have just brought this issue up to the radio instead on Twitter. She seems bitter. She has every right to be mad, but she shouldn’t put it out to the public.

    • truth(i could drag the F*** icki but y, she did to herself with reFLOP and no grammy nods. so ill STOMP her pissy fans p**** in chile) December 20, 2012

@lola YOU should GO OUT in the public without your leash on B****!! (walks away mumbling ‘no this h** didn’t come for queen Janet chile, i’ll drag the f*** outta this c*** for that’)

  16. danny b December 19, 2012

I get that Keyshia may not be as hot today as she once was. But youve got to gve credit where credit is due. Coming out of Oakland and being one of the most successful R&B artists in the industry withing the past decade is an amazing feat and she’s gone thru a hell of a lot to get become as successful as she is, regardless of what numbers whatever her recent albums have pulled. Especially in Oakland, she’s helped put them on the map along with other artists such as E 40, Too $hort and even Tupac. She’s part of the city’s history in terms of mainstream attention so they owe her alot in that respect. She’s goes hard for her town and they should do the same. Her OPENING for a f****** newcomer like The Weeknd in her own f****** hometown is absurd. You wouldnt have someone like Brandy open up for someone like K. Michelle in LA. Or you wouldnt even have Mary J Blige open for someone like Melanie Fiona. Its just absurd and theres a certain level of respect that should be given. Yea you can say Keyshia should humble herself.. but in all essence, i dont think shes coming from a diva standpoint. Shes coming from a standpoint where shes worked hard and she deserves the respect that she had earned over the years. Im with you Keyshia. #BayArea

  19. TheCreat1veOne December 20, 2012

What kills me is the people saying she should be humble and open for The Weeknd would probably be the same ones calling her a flop, has-been, etc. if she did do so.

What the radio station did to her was just wrong and absurd. Keyshia has just been in the game too long to open up for a newcomer like that. She may not be the hottest female R&B artist out now, but you cannot just forget about the hits she has made, the platinum albums, the awards she has received, and much more. That’s almost as disrespectful as Rihanna opening up for Rita Ora, or Miguel opening for Luke James. I hope the best for Keyshia and her new album Woman to Woman, because this album deserves more recognition than it is getting, and she probably viewed this radio show as a great way to promote for it. Hopefully 2013 will be a great year for this album and she won’t have to go through things like this again.

  21. antertain December 20, 2012

She was right because who is The Weekend compared to Keyshia Cole??
Her rant was not classy though and that wy she stays behind other singers.

If she read them in an more well constuctive way it would have been much better.

But if you seen her show then you know she goes off before really thiking about it first.
