We may be but a few days into 2013, yet the dreaded “pushback” has reared its head once again. This go round it’s rapper J. Cole on the receiving end.
Details after the jump…
The Roc Nation star previously announced that his hotly anticipated sophomore set ‘Born Sinner’ would arrive on his 28th birthday on January 28th.
However, in a new interview at a New Year’s Eve party he hosted at Tao Las Vegas, the MC confirmed that the follow-up to 2011’s ‘Cole World: The Sideline Story’ has been pushed back – citing his need for more time. The project has thus far spawned one single, ‘Miss America’.

As endearing as the “tirelessly working on it” explanation is, it sadly can’t take away the fact that Cole doesn’t yet enjoy the luxury of being able to not follow through on promises while maintaining high interest.
‘The Sideline Story’ may have sold an impressive 600,000+ copies in the US, however there are countless artists before and after him who have sold more initially only to fizzle with the swiftness due to so-so roll-out of follow-up releases. Here’s hoping J. Cole doesn’t suffer a similar fate. He’s too talented.
Indeed, on the merit of his skill and his buzz, the first album should have scanned Platinum had all played out as it should have. Now is the time to right those wrongs. Fingers crossed all involved ensure that happens.
