’21’: Adele Makes Fresh Sales Gains Following Grammy Appearance

Published: Wednesday 20th Feb 2013 by David

Guess who’s still selling like hot cakes?

You guessed it…none other than ‘Cold Shoulder’ beauty Adele via her sophomore LP ’21’.

Find out how and why below…

After her appearance at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards, the British singer’s latest album enjoyed a sales increase of 46%, forcing the project back into the US Top 20…two years after its February 2011.

Pushing it sales well over the 25 million sold worldwide mark, ’21’s US sales jump saw it move 32,157 units in the last week helped by her appearance and win at the award show, which she enjoyed alongside the likes of Rihanna, Beyonce, Chris Brown and Def Jam Prince, Frank Ocean– who enjoyed a sales increase of 120%  following his performance.

Over in the UK, the album rose 7 spots to occupy #35 in its 108th week, while 54,000 units sold across the globe in the last seven days pushes its total sales to 25,007,000 units.

    When it’s promoted and marketed correctly, HONEST & GENUINE music will always prevail, no matter the genre. This alone will make ”21″ a classic album in the next 5 – 10 years and deservedly so.

    Sonically-speaking, Adele is a combination of ‘Carole King, Carly Simon, Dusty Springfield, Linda Ronstadt, Celine Dion and Shania Twain’.

    I personally feel that she has, single-handedly, brought back the ‘Adult-Contemporary- based’/Singer-Songwriter stylings of the 1980’s and 1990’s back to the forefront, therefore, seeing that adults are her target audience, it’s somewhat inevitable that she would sell the way she is.

    If these Commercial Pop-Stars want to see sales like these, they need to start re-invigorating their sound, both musically stylistically. There is an ENORMOUS difference between making ‘GOOD’ commercial music and ‘BAD’ commercial music.

    All I’m waiting for now is for Rock & Soul music to dominate again, album and single-wise.

    “21” is a classic album and it’s in often rotation whenever I’m in my car or doing chores. 25 million albums sold…..That is a feat that we won’t hear about for some time if ever!!!! Unless she outdoes herself on the next album.

    Damn, Adele you still slaying with that breakup album! But im not surpirsed. She is talented. Writes her own music & has a instant classic voice. You can’t go wronge. Her next album needs to be incredible! Can she sell 25 million copies again…

    CONGRATS SLAYDELE!!!!!!!

  9. Mother Mariah February 20, 2013

    Steph, Of course she won’t sell 25 million records again. Dumb ass. Remember Norah Jones? Neither do I. But congrats to Miss Adele.

  10. CiConne February 20, 2013

    I ABSOLUTELY AGREE @JUELZ…

    Adele can easily outdo herself with her next album.

    Celine Dion outdid herself for 3 albums straight: 28M, 30M, 33M…

    Whitney Houston outdid herself for 3 albums straight: 25M, 28M, 40Mc…

    Barbra Streisand has, Dolly Parton has, Michael Jackson has, Janet has, Madonna has…

    If her albums are promoted well, she’ll have no problem.

    And women, even men, in the “25 – 45 / 30 – 50” age bracket will buy her album.

  11. CiConne February 20, 2013

    @Mother Mariah…

    But Mariah has outdone herself – look @ Look at daydream and music box.

    So has Madonna.

    Of course it’s damn possible!!!

  12. SlayDeleAdkins February 20, 2013

    YASSSS ADELE!! KEEP SLAYING QUEEN!!!
    And yes! If its promoted right she can defo be able to pull related numbers like 21!! And i know she will SLAY with her next record!!

  13. Mother Mariah February 20, 2013

    Chile it is not 1997. Music buyers arent as loyal as they used to be. 🙂 But we will see. Maybe she will prove me wrong. 🙂

    This woman only needs to leave her house in London and she sells. A f****** boss lol
    To match the 25 million albums of “21” will be very difficult, to do that an album needs to have a loooong run on the charts. We´ll see, it will depend on the music. But what is for sure and I can´t wait to see is that she is gonna slay the first week numbers when her next album drops. I mean, she´ll probably break the record. 1 million in the USA will be very probable, all groups of ages will be waiting for that. If handled correctly she´ll break the record (I think is around 1,300,000 copies first week)
    And I agree with @juelz and @steph
    This girl has it, it doesn´t matter if others have more range or whatever. The most important thing (despite being subjective as many people obsessed with technique always say) is to have an special appeal in your voice, a unique style and a voice that matches your music, an instant classic voice. And she has it. Maybe not like the greatest ever but for sure more than any other act in this generation. Sorry. And it just showed on these numbers

  17. CICONNE February 20, 2013

    @JOHNVIDAL

    Exactly!!!

    Oh and btw, the highest first week sales in the USA, overall, were done by N’Sync in 2001 – they sold “2, 210, 000” copies in their first week.

    700,000+ on the first day!!! That record still stands 12-13 years later. LOL

    But yeah, the highest first week sales for a FEMALE is 1, 300, 000 – Britney Spears!!!

  18. Rita Slays February 20, 2013

    You’d think everyone had a copy by now lol

  19. JOHNVIDAL February 20, 2013

    @ciconne
    Ok thanks, yeah I suppose I had in mind the record for a female. Not that the first week numbers are the most important thing, what counts is the final numbers, but they are interesting sometimes

    i like that she makes music for ADULTS and not just teeny boppers.

  21. Teacher February 21, 2013
